I've noticed an increasing trend in 'psuedo-police' wearing police-style uniforms. The latest ones are appearing on train stations. They wear the same fluoro jackets as police, including a blue insert with white lettering on the back. The lettering says something like "Rail Security Operative". They carry radios, and gear on a belt. Apart from the lettering on the back of the jacket, the clothing is identical in every way to the police uniform worn in North Yorkshire. They are employed by National Express. My objection to this is the false impression it creates; at a glance, these people look like police officers. If caught speeding, cautioned & charged at the roadside and advised that a summons will be issued does that remove the requirement for a notice of intended prosecution being issued as basically you will have been told that a summons will follow? What are the usual time limits for a summons to be issued? (We are talking about 63 on a roadworks restricted dual carriageway with a temp 40 limit at 01.00am!)

You know how a constable in uniform has the power to stop any vehicle and ask for documents, etc. ? How does this apply to unmarked cars? Do constables in unmarked cars (fitted with blue lights, etc.) have the power to stop vehicles? Does the power come from the fact that the constables are wearing their uniform while they're sat in their unmarked cars? What about plain-clothed constables in unmarked cars (using their blue lights)? Many thanks. ktang

I am due to drive (volunteer) to drive a minibus with 17 seats Incl the driver (me) for a 3 Peaks Challenge next weekend, they have suddenly changed the 9 seater to a 17 seater out of shear kindness, but this has left we with a problem. I have a full B (car) licence and held it for over 2 years, it was issued in 2002. I have a coditional offer for medicine at the university of liverpool which i have firmly accepted. All med students are required to undergo enhanced CRB checks before the start of their course. When i was 13 i got a warning for burglary and theft which shows up on the CRB check so i panicked and wrote a letter explaining this to them in which they wrote back saying this is unlikey to preclude me from practicing medicine. so that was sorted. A car is due it's first MOT next month, it has gone for a test and failed, can it be driven ? It doesn't require an MOT yet so the test is irrelavent yes ? I thought it was an offence for a driver to permit other people within a vehicle to consume intoxicating liquor if so does anyone know act etc as i have searched my blackstones road policing manual 2009 and cant find anything.

This is just a thought as my in laws are buying a motor home. and it made me think about it when they showed me the brochure. e.g a chair, that is the drivers seat spinning round to make an armchair type seat. As officers, if you come across someone, in a car, in possesion of keys who is drunk or you suspect of being drunk, generally they will be breathalysed and if over the limit, arrested, if you have reasonable grounds to believe the vehicle has been driven by said person will be driving it. Hyperthetically speaking... A friend of a friend is concerned that the area in which they live could become subject to the building of a large windfarm. This is in a rural location and the scenery is unspoilt. As part of the construction the building work would consist of the movement of a large amount of HGVs in and around these village locations. If the residents of these villages wished to make a 'peaceful' protest where would their stance be with regard to blocking a road or moving slowly along a road in order to raise awarenes of their concerns? Dont really know if this is thep lace i should be posting this but was lookign for a little advice and wondering what i may get if charged? Basically about 2 months ago i got kicked out of a club and then tried getting back in at which point bouncers jumped on me and took me to the floor,then the police came and held me down and i was kicking away and without realising it kicked an officer in the chest and then got pava'd then arrested and got away with a warning. As has been said many times before, you cannot rely on the info here to try to get out of a charge. Some of it is only applicable to parts of the UK, some of it is opinion, and some advice is just wrong. Someone has come on, seemingly attempting to raise a technical defence to an OPL, and he has been given misleading (and, if the offence occurred in England and Wales) wrong info. Scots law is different. Please, if you're going to ask or answer questions, try to make yourselves clear as to where you are, and which bit of the UK law you want answers to. And for those answering, please try to get it right - don't just guess, or post crap from Wikipedia.....
