Hi all Got a quick question for you: A couple of years back I was having a discussion with my boss (a lawyer) about UK paper driving licences. He said I should have a photocard one, as at the minute I have a paper one, he said it was the law. Now I checked back then and I was still entitled to hold a paper one, could not find anywhere that said that I HAD to change it. Now when I was at Hendon at the weekend, we were doing lost property and in my purse is my paper licence. Our trainer said to me that it was an offence for me to have it and not hold a photocard one. Simple question - are the police allowed to exceed the speed limit when not using blue lights?

With Halloween and bonfire night approaching in the next 10 weeks or so, I started to think about the various offences I tend to see over this period. It reminded me of something with regards to power of seizure etc. Take the following example.... We live in a private lane....but at the bottom there is a football field that holds (supposedly childrens matches) but now it is a joke we have cars racing up and down all night long inc days when there are football matches! There are 6 houses and then the lane down to thje field,the residents own the lane outside the houses,it is on the deeds,the bottom half of the lane belongs to a farmer but the football belongs to the council. It always used to be walking access only until this new clib took over and now they just do what the want. Got called to a job on Friday night which was reports of two asain males letting off fireworks at the entrance of the car park to a social club. On arrival the smell of burnt gunpowder was in the air in abundance and i was greeted with dozens and dozens of empty fireworks all over the car park and an asain engagement party going on. The manager of the social club had called as he had stated to the hiring asain families that no fireworks were to be let off, so are religious festivals and occassions excempt from the fireworks law or would they have needed a licence as they were letting off in a public place??

At the moment there are a lot of documentaries about the police. I would imagine that people who are dealt with by the police must feel embarressed that millions of people will see them on TV. Do people who are featured on these documentaries have the right to stop filming or if filming is not stopped, have the right to prevent footage being shown. For instance, a motorist is stopped by the police for a motoring offence. The police are accompanied by a film crew who film the police and the footage may be used for a documentary. Im sorry if this has already been done to death, iv had a look and still not found it! Some powers require you to be in uniform, I was wondering if someone could give me a list of those that need to be in uniform and those that don't need to be in uniform. E.g. Off-Duty powers vs On-Duty powers. Plain Clothes vs Police Uniform. Thanks.

3 Questions: As I'm sure you are all aware, for the offence of "obstrucing the highway" includes the footway. 1.Can a police officer be a "victim" of this offence? As in, can they be the one who has had one's movement impeded? 2. If the pavement is wide enough for a car to be parked on it and for a pedestrian able to walk along beside it unimpeded (and its not a crowded pavement) can the offence still be complete. "I wanted to walk along that bit of the pavement" 3. Finally, how does one issue a FPN(P) [for those of us in the met] to an unattended vehicle?

I live on an estate which is in a large dip in the land. When the houses were built they made the drainage system privately owned as part of the houses and because of its setting in the low land there needs to be a pump. The costs of maintaining this are divided between 39 houses on the estate including the one I live in. Someone, in one of these houses, blocks the system up. My neighbour had put leaflets round requesting people to be more careful. Yesterday it happened again one of the manhole covers started overflowing and we checked the covers in the gardens of the whole row of houses they were all clogging up. theres a person on a bike which has been overtakeing out side my house on the wrong side of the road and i think he has been speeding he might of been going 30 but i think it was faster i have seen him turn of so i know where about he has gone i know a bit of his licence plate so what number would i ring up to report this would it be 999 or another number thanks in advance sam3210

Ok, forgive me if some of you find this post pointless, but I have a question about making a lawful arrest in accordance with PACE for Section 5 of the Public Order act 1986. It's more just to aid my learning and understanding. Take the following example. A person is being verbally abusive towards you in the street (whilst on duty). He/she is swearing repeatedly at you even after you have warned them and there are other members of public present who appear alarmed and shocked by the person's behaviour, i.e assume that they have committed an offence under section 5. How could you justify arresting this person in terms of necessity under PACE? The male isn't being physical…
