Im a student officer, very conveniently on a week off leave (no access to my tutors). Quick question regarding fpn's and hort1's and the time in which someone has to pay a fine or produce docs. HORT1 is 7 clear days. ie, 7 full days from midnight tonight. we'll go for a endorsable fpn, has to be payed WITHIN 28 days. (ignore the failure to pay or choose to be heard at court). I have a colleague at work who was clocked doing over 100mph (on a motorway) by a piece of equipment that measures an average (please forgive my ignorance as i do not know the equipment). He was pulled over by an officer at the roadside. On his court summons under the vehicle it says he was driving a Ford FIESTA, however he was driving a Ford MONDEO. All the other details are correct i.e. drivers details, VRM. How does he stand on this? He believes that because of this error the case will be thrown out? I lent an ex-colleague some money in order for her to get home a few months back now and have asked her for it on many occasions. What does the law state on this? I'm not planning on taking her to court or anything of the sort, would just like to know what it's from a legal point of view, if any.

Hi I'm a bit confused about amber beacons and their use, I have read several topics here and it has not made it any clearer. Can I use an amber beacon on my car when I am 'tail end Charlie' for an organised fund raising bike ride where the speed will be below 25MPH? I was recently told off by a special for doing so, he suggested I used hazard flashers but I believe it is not permissable in this situation. Thanks in anticipation.

I went to my local Police station to report something and I heard an officer saying to this guy in the waiting room that everything in the police waiting area was filmed and also all sound too, so everything you say is being recorded! Is this legal that they can film and record everything you say without you knowing? I went into this little side room next to the reception and talked about what I went down there to report but I decided not to press charges. I didn't see any cameras in the little side room but did see some in the waiting room. I saw no signs in the little side/interview room that said you were being filmed and recorded. I know that this is not a legal advice forum - i just would like to know about the changeover of provisional licence designs. The "old" provisional licence style looks very simple, and i believe they are possibly being used as fake ID. Can anyone give me a brief overview of "trade plates" Can/should you PNC them? Are there certrain restrictions on them, i.e. making a delivery only. Any powers to deal etc etc

Someone told me the other day that even with blues and two's ambulances still have to stick to the speed limit, although they can go through red lights as give way etc, I didn't think this was true, but since being told this I have looked at ambulances and they don't seem to go over the speed limits - does anyone know if this is true?

Basically my question is this. Can I drive to an MOT station 300+ miles away to get my car MOT'd. It currently doesn't have an MOT or Tax because at the time it was due we were moving house & I forgot all about it, when I remembered I decided I would just leave it over the winter period as I wouldnt be driving it anyway. The reason I am wanting to drive this distance is because that is how far away the speicalist centre is and I dont like standard garages touching my car. This is something I was just wondering about. If someone steals something from a shop, are they technicaly liable for stealing from the government also, as they have not only stolen from the shop but also, from the government, in terms of avoiding paying VAT etc (dont know what the legal term for this sort of crime is), I Know it would never happen, but people do get arrested for avoiding duty on alchol and cigeretts etc, so to me it seems like techicaly its an offence, but i know nothing about it, which is why im asking on here. I would imagine that even if it was an offence its probably something that revenue and customs would get involved in rather than the police.…

Hi guys, I have a friend who is currently completing Visa applications (they are emigrating, lucky chaps!). Anyway they need to get a JP or Magistrate to authorise statutory declarations. I was just wandering how they go about contacting them? I am aware a cost may be involved but how would my friend make contact to have their documents certified by a JP or Magistrate? Feel free to have a cup of tea and mull over the answer!

hi in the old days a special constable who gave up his time for free and now today we have p.c.s.o who walk the streets and get paid for it and yet a special constable who still gives up there time today to do police work dont you think how nice it would be to get paid after all you are a part of the police service :D thats my opinion
