It is legal for a parent to give any child over 5 alcohol at home. For instance giving a 16 year old a glass of wine with their dinner. It is illegal for someone to go into an off-licence by some alcohol then hand it to the 16 year old standing outside. But can anyone tell me where the distinction lies between what is legal and what is not? For instance if 18 year old is having a party at his house with no parents present and gives his 17 year old brother a drink, I imagine that's legal. A few times i have been on duty and an obs message comes over for a vehicle that has failed to stop at an accident. It normally turns out that its damage only with no injuries so what is the law covering the fail to stop. As in my blackstones it states that it has to be a reportable accident and that if the only damage caused is to the mechanically propelled vehicle itself, it's driver then the accident is not a reportable accident in terms of the legislation. So where does S170(4) RTA 1988 come into play?

This is very uncommon, but some people working for embassies and such get diplomatic passports which give them immunity from the authorities of any foreign country (in this case the UK). What happens if they then break the law? If you break up a fight and proceed to arrest someone who then flashes a diplomatic passport and says "you can't arrest me I'm a diplomat", do you have to let them go? We've all seen it in the movies but I was wondering what happens in reality. Also, does anyone know what statute covers this, if any?

I've just seen a disco bus driving around the town centre with white strobe lights on the front bumper, and whilst the vehicle was moving, the strobe lights were flashing, almost the same as the headlights on a marked car would. Is there an offence for the disco bus to be using flashing strobes whilst in motion?

A topic which has created a lot of debate in recent years is the use of forward intelligence teams to film protestors even if a protest is peaceful. A web blog was set up called Fitwatch which gives instances of demonstrations where fit teams have been present and has photographs of police officers who belong to FIT teams. The people behind the blog argue that filming of protestors is completely unjustified, it is being used to intimidate protestors, the government is keeping a record of people who attend protests and filming peaceful protestors is another sign that we are now living in a repressive police state. Hello chaps and chappettes. A simple one that I'm sure can be cleared up in a few hours, if not mins! It is in regards to stopping vehicles for Moving Traffic Offences. You stop a vehicle 2 up for a simple traffic offence. All compliant, words of advice given to driver. All checks out. However, something is flashing in your brain that says "talk to the passenger". My question is thus; What grounds do we have for asking passengers of vehicles to leave the car at traffic stops? And I suppose the question is what can we do if they refuse? (Please bear in mind that in this hypothetical world we have no cause to suspect weapons, no previous history on the vehicle or driver…

As a 20 year old lad I enjoy going to night clubs and bars etc. One thing that gets me a bit annoyed is that some clubs have a policy that women get in for free but the men are stuck with the £5+ entry price. Are they allowed to do this? Isn't it a bit sexist?

Right, I'm sure someone can give me a hand with this. You know when you're in Tesco's car park and you see a sign telling you to go 10mph, or a one way section, or a zebra crossing. If you were to contravene any of these notices would you be liable to police action? I probably should know this but it's never really come up. I'm just curious.
