I remember being told back in training to always ask for someones name and address before doing a contemp interview. The reason being that after saying 'you don't have to remain with me' as part of the caution + 2 it would make an arrest for name and address unlawful if someone just decided to walk off there and then (seeing as you just told them they could go if they liked). I was wondering if this was actually true, and if so does this then apply to all the other necessity criteria? For example if someone refused questions to be put to them and just walked off, would an arrest for prompt and effective investigation be lawful? Or would you just have to report with a not…

In my 'force' (service) and no doubt in other Forces we have various policies that state when people should be arrested or when they don't have to be arrested because other disposal option apply. The two that spring mostly clearly to mind is when someone it in posession of cannabis for personal use (we can issue cannabis warning or PNDs )and shoplifters stealing under £200 worth of goods (we have been able to issue PNDs). There is a local character who, from what I have been told is an ex-alcoholic. Whilst he now doesn't drink he has damaged his brain in a way that makes him behave like an obnoxious drunk permanently. I got a look at a South West Trains proforma MG11 regarding fare evasion. I was amazed at the language with regards to the "interview". A caution is included It used a phrase along the lines of "I suggest Knowing that you have not go the means to pay for ticket you must have been intending to evaid paying your fare. Is this so?" I can't quite remember. The use of the word intent was in there, so I'm guessing fare evasion is far from an absolute offence. There was a phrase at the bottom which paraphrased the section 9 warning but it wasn't I see in EABs and on MG11s I use. It gets the jist over but it didn't quite where the s.9 warning comes from. Hello all Basically this is what my situation is, i am in my last year of sixth form, and still deciding whether or not to go univeristy, or join one of the emergecny services such as the police. I have the grades to get into uni and enjoy the subject sociolgoy, however i am cautious about the whole idea of student loans and being in debt. Either that or go to uni, and sometime in my later life join up in a rural police force (i've lived all my life in south east london). With the change of law regarding sale of tobacco products - rising from 16 to 18 - what has happened to the Children and Young Persons Act 1933? It used to be the case that a constable (and park keepers and now PCSOs) had a duty to seize (but not search for) cigarettes from those who appeared to be aged under 16 years. Has this been amended to say persons appearing to be ages under 18 years, or is there a discrepancy that prevents youths aged 16-18 from buying cigarettes but allows them to smoke them? And if there is, then does an offence exist for a person aged 18 or over to purchase cigarettes for those aged under 16-18?

Just wondering what offence graffiti is? Criminal damage, or? And what about 'going equipped' when anyone can by spray paint? And is the same for county forces and BTP? Do BTP have a bylaw that covers it?

Hi everyone, I hear that your BMI has to be between 18-30 ... would they fail me on my medical if i have a BMI of 31-32? I'm 5'9 and 15 stone... which gives me a BMI of 31... Are they strict when it comes to the medical?
