There have been many threads on knives, every day carry and offensive weapons and to be honest they still leave me a little confused! I want to check that I have put together s a fair roundup of the facts and real-world situation? I ask as I take my daughters camping (14yrs & 13yrs) and have bought each of them a fixed blade camping knife and a Leatherman micro multi-tool (blade less than 1.5" and a slipjoint). To go with this they have both had instruction in the safe handling of a blade and are well aware of the consequences of mishandling sharps. I'd like the right to spray people with irritants and beat them with blunt implements if it maintains my immediate safety. If it were me personally I would avoid all confrontation (ignore provocation, talk my way out of it, take flight) until I had no other alternative but to deal with somebody physically. Then I would much rather use pepper spray than attempt to best a small group of young males in blunt bare-knuckle fighting. It would hopefully give me enough time to run a good distance away. Theres a form or something which requires the registered keeper of a vehicle by law to disclose who was driving at a specific day, date, time etc. Is it an NIP or something else? Say for example a fail to stop RTC and you want to know who was driving, but arent sure if it was the r/k? I want to say section 172 or similar but iam not sure. Anyone know? Also, how is it issued, enforced etc?

Hi there, Just curious about the law and admissibility of cctv in evidence. For example, if a gentleman living in a remote location has cctv installed to the exterior of his dwelling and then the dwelling is broken into, would this be admissible in court as evidence? Especially if you have used the cctv in order to identify the suspects. The blackstones manual states that cctv from a police control room may be used as documentary evidence. Cheers guys

I have a friend who is girl,23, and she went at 1 am to someone who swear to her on the phone, knocked on the door, inside that house was 4 male and one women (one of men was the one with who she want to speak), but she was with her boyfriend(who not even come out from the car). The man call the police, and they find in her bag one kitchen knife and one gas pepper spray. She did not used as she not even entered in the house. Is this assault? Can she have 6 months prison and/or fine of maximum 5000 £? She was retained at her home until the trial.

I have just had a conversation with someone who stated that they may be issued with Baton and CS/PAVA, this person is a civillian working for a Police force, that i dont want to name. My question is can civilians without any powers of a constable be issued with a Baton or CS/PAVA? Im aware of powers under section 3 CLA, S117 PACE and common law. Can anyone help? Thanks

You are on a motorway, lane 1. You drive it every day, and you know what's coming up ahead: 1 mile warning that lane one will no longer be M1, but instead will feed off to M2. 1/2 mile warning of the same. Shortly after that, the road markings change from the normal lines, to very short lines very shortly spaced. At what point is that lane in essence no longer considered part of the M1? The reason for asking is that I have heard the excuse of undertaking (in normal flow, no congestion) because the signs said it's a seperate road, whereas others have said they only did it when the road markings change. Direction to leave a locality where there is a risk of disorder can now be given to an individual aged 10 years or over. Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 has been amended by the Policing and Crime Act 2009. Constables may now give a direction to an individual aged 10 years or over (previously 16 years or over) to leave a locality if they represent a risk of disorder. This came into force on the 29th January 2010.

There seems to be an absurd anomaly in our laws about offensive weapons, unless I have completely misunderstood the law. I would be grateful if officers would look at the following scenarios and clarify if I have understood, what is and is not an offence correctly. The start for both scenarios is the same. I would be interested in reading the opinions of the serving members of this forum on a rather nasty situation that I find myself in. I was accused of some rather serious sexual offences of the kind that, on conviction, attract a maximum prison sentence of 18 years by a woman and her mother that the woman claimed I had committed against her daughter. I arrest a person to prevent a breach of the peace (i.e just move them out of the area) once they have been moved out of the area then what? obviously there is no need to take them to custody and 'book em' so do you simply make a note in your pocketbook that the arrest was made?
