Being still relatively new, I've only made a few arrests. When presenting my most recent to the custody skipper I was asked whether I'd made the arrest for common assault or on suspicion of it. The answer was easy - I'd arrested on suspicion, which is what I'd told the DP at the time of arrest. I imagine the skipper needed to record which of the S.24(3) PACE powers I used: It got me thinking, even if I'd witnessed the assault myself is there any reason why I couldn't still arrest on suspicion? What's the point of recording this, and what difference would it make?

I have never come across the mental capacity act 2005 until I dealt with a recent job where somebody had a severe head injury but was refusing treatment. the paramedic on scene stated that because the male was so drunk, she was going to treat him against his will under the mental capacity act because she believed he did not understand the seriousness of the situation. After this, I have had a little look into and think, certainly in our force, it is not very well known or used by police officers. Hi,i'm new to the forum and i'm trying to find out if the police have to record what they do while on duty, if they do have to log what they do, how do they do it and what on ?

I recently watched the following scenario take place on my local high st. A gentleman using a mobile phone approached his car whilst using his mobile phone. He got into the car and drove approx 80 yards and parked on another shop forecourt ,he did not do more than 15mph and i could not see if he continued to use his mobile whilst driving. A uniformed unaccompanied PCSO driving an unmarked police car stopped behind the vehicle and questioned the driver. The driver denied using his mobile. I have been rostered for a duty at the forthcoming vote count in my local constituency as far as I am aware I will be 'overseeing' the returning of ballots and the subsequent count., my purpose I guess to 'keep the peace? E.g. people attempting to loosen bikes from a railing, but without actually cutting into a lock. I'm sure there are many other examples of 'attempted theft' - but is it actually an offence/can you arrest or charge for it?

Hi all. There is a problem at a local school whereby parents of children from the school are parking anywhere and everywhere, in order to get as close to the school gates as possible. This includes across pathways, and on central reservations. I'm currently in the process of penning a letter to the parents of the school for admin to reproduce and wondered whether parking is classed as antisocial behaviour. The definition from the HO website is "Anti-social behaviour is virtually any intimidating or threatening activity that scares you or damages your quality of life."
