At the begining of the year i was issued a harrassment warning from the police. Basically; my ex-girlfriend cheated on me and then left me for someone else. On a night out three months later i told one of her friends she was a slag. She then, fabricated a story to the police naming people including a my manager at work claiming i had been threatening her and her new boyfriend all of which was lies and can be proven. When i signed the harrassment warning (the police officers statement book) i didn't really know what i was signing. Although i know it is a "no crime" offence, it still shows up on a enhanced CRB check; which i do not want. After the incident, this person m…

Again, pardon my ignorance as a curious MoP.....but what's the difference between robbery and theft? I PRESUMED it was along the lines of, physically walking up to someone in the street and mugging them, would be robbery. Sticking your hand in someones bag would be theft? Correct me if i'm wrong! But please don;t just quote definitions! Use laymans terms for us none bobbies!

Hi Folks Not that I wish to complicate matters, but here is a scenario that caused much discussion locally over the various issues discussed above:- 6-8 suspects kicked in a door in the early hours of the morning. The premises was a B&B, they pushed the owner out of the way and were shouting for someone who they were looking for and threatening to kill. They knew exactly which door to go to, which being a B&B was locked and they kicked the door in. They did not find the person for whom they were looking (even though he had responded to their threats by throwing a heavy object down the stairs, which hit one on the head and then he ran and hid) but the…

Just a quick question, I know that with for example a section 18 authorised search you can only search rooms that the person arrested for an indictable offence has access too (EG a boy living with parents, you can search his room and shared areas, NOT sisters and parents bedroom) Is this the same for section 32 searches? And if for example you arrested someone for theft of digital cameras in there friends house (Suspect was only there visiting), where can you search?

Are there any laws regarding the use of union jacks on coffins or can people just drape them on?

I was just filling out the equal oppurtunities part of an employment form and it said: 'Please be aware that the equal opportunities section is used for monitoring purposes only. It is NOT compulsory and is NOT visible to our Recruitment Team. However, it is a criminal offence to provide false information.' Can someone please show me a statute that makes this illegal?!

I believe it used to be against the law to send "offensive language" or offensive behaviour such as strong sex scenes over the airwaves. i.e. swearing and sex scenes on the TV. Was the law ever changed to allow the sort of language we get now, even on the Police Documentary programs (bad language that is not the sex scenes Lol) but you get me point?

I have just been told at work that the law has changed and an officer on duty in uniform can buy alcohol. I dont remember seeing any change in the 2003 licensing act. Can any help with this? Am I right or is work right?

Just been reading about this today and had a short lesson on it and i get the jist of it. But was just wonder how it works? If you ask them to surrender the alcohol and they do and you tip it away if open. Do you then leave it at that? Or do you have to take name and address details, and if so what do you do with them? EG fill out a form or just record in your PNB I understand that if they fail to give surrender the alcohol you can arrest if socap reason applies Thanks in advance

Were having a little debate and without much resolve. A detainee has been arrested and brought into the police station for a summary offence. at the time they are drunk and not fit to be dealt with. 12 hours later they have sobered up and fit to be dealt with however, they are exhibiting signs of mental disorder. As such a force medical examiner establishes that a mental health assessment is most definitely required. Is there any power to detain this person after their PACE clock ends and the mental health team still haven't arrived. Superintendent extensions are out because it is only a summary offence. We can't use powers under s136 MHA as the detainee is not in a…

Hello All! Unfortunately when i went through my Foundation training Drugs wasn't covered. It now is covered in the foundation course, that doesn't help me though. Anyway, i have since been taught the basics around drugs, drug searching etc. But I was thinking to myself today and couldn't answer my own question. If you carry out a sec 23 search and find not drugs, but find drugs paraphernalia I.e. Crack Pipes, used / unused What, if any, offence has been committed? Thanks in advance SCDD

Hi, I am a student designer, looking to try and create a product for my final year of university. I am very keen to try and help people by solving a real problem and not just adding to the millions of copycat and junk products out on the market. Since I have no contacts within the police force, I am looking for your insights into problems you have everyday working for the national police force. This could be anything from a task that is annoying and time consuming to do, to products that you use, that you think could be improved. New trends and future problems you may foresee are also of interest, for example the budget cuts affecting the amount of police on the streets…

Hi all, Recent senario that i dealt with in comms got me thinking. Male A has been in a dispute with someone he knows as an aquaintance known in the is Male B. As a result the Male B attends Male A's home address and assaults Male A. In the ensuing mele the Male B uses a long bladed weapon ( machete, sword, kitchen knife ) and strikes Male A in the back of the head once causing a very deep laceration. Male B had brought the weapon to the address before assault occurred. In this situation, when does the law define the line between assault, wounding with intent and attempted murder based on circs? What points to prove are needed to constitute the latter? Regards

I was stumped the other day when stopping a Scooby, I stopped him as he had his fogs on, but they were not fogs as he had lower power lamps in them. Are these OK or are they not?
