Hey people! My training for WMP Specials starts in August was wondering if I ought to do some swotting other than the pre read booklet. If so what would you reccomend reading up on? Training is spread over three weekends, 1st Theory, 2nd PT, 3rd Diversity then local training dates in the evening. Hopefully should be out by the end of September :) Cheers!

I was just wondering if anyone on here is (or hoping to be) a special constable who works for British Airways? Or do you know anyone who is or is becoming a special who works for British Airways?

hi, i'm filling out the application form for gloucestershire specials. i'm getting really excited, i've been considering doing it for ages, and now have finally plucked up the courage to get on with it. i know it's early days, and i haven't been accepted, but i could do with some advice about my hair. being a girly-girl, i have long hair (really long). what's the regulations? will i need to get it cut short, or can i just wear it in a pony tail. i know it seems a really daft question, but for a lot of women their hair is their pride and joy. i'm not sure i can get it all chopped off just for a job. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First question for a long time reader, so be gentle. I've recently got my fitness assessment for Surrey (next week as it happens) but alsp got my day 1 for Met Specials on the 16th. I herd from a friend who works as a civvy at Hendon that the Met will consider applications for regular PC's from Specials who have done at least a year in post once they have completed their training, is this correct? Cheers Will

Hey there! Just joined West Mids Police as a Special, training dates all booked etc. Got all my gear from stores and have had a good play lol but I just have a few questions about it. 1. I've got my utility belt and attachments, is there a proper configuration for it or is it down to personal preference? 2. I seem to have strange numbers of epaluetts/shoulder boards. I have one pair of high vis shoulder board yet have two hi vis outers, 1 jacket 1 vest. 2 pairs of black epaluetts that fit nicely on the black jacket and fleece and 1 pair of black shoulder boards that don't seem to attach to anything. Any ideas? 3. Got a flip folder for fines with an ink well and anothe…

I am a Regular Constable and i must say since i joined the regulars the Special Constabulary have done nothing but let me down. Take yesterday for example, i am rota'd on to do a large public event with 8 specials and a special inspector. I get to the the said event (some 10,000 people expected) and 3 specials turn up, one of them made up to Sergeant only the previous month. Perhaps its my force i should blame, but on my operational order i have 8 specials and i phone their inspector and he is in Bristol ! I understand you guys don't get paid and i could never do what i do for free, but my view of specials at the moment is just one of being let down.

Well I passed my assessment day on 8th Jul... Sent off my security and medical questionnaires on Fri 13th.. (hmm is that an omen?) Just a little worried about my financial situation though , I had a CCJ about 10 years ago but it has been settled in full for some time!.. Since then I struggled financially until about 3 years ago but now I'm stable (got a very well paid job .. )Any ideas if this will affect my application??? Not at all worried about my Home Office Security questionnaire though as I'm already SC cleared and have been for 5 years. It's not nice playing the waiting game, especially since I know it's going to be a long time!!.. Anyone else looking to st…

How would you answer this question? Give me an example of when you have shown respect for diversity. Here is the answer i have written, can anyone tell me if its good enough please? My answer One example that comes to mind is when I worked at Homebase as a customer service assistant working with a wide variety of customers from all ages and backgrounds. To provide a high level of customer service it was sometimes necessary for me to go above and beyond what is required of the role. On many occasions one of our regular customers who had a disability which prevented him from walking would visit the store and it is vitally important to assess his needs and adapt your a…
