Hi Guys, I've applied to be a Special Constable, but I'm unsure how the recruitment process works compared to the Regulars. Plus I've read that different forces have different ways in which they recruit and assess applicants. Does anyone know what the recruitment process for joining the specials in West Yorkshire Police is like? Any help and info appreciated. Thanks.

I was previously unsuccessful in joining the regs as I was 2% off the pass mark. The assessment center just seems impossible. None of the areas i did were particularly poor just average marks..i don't really know what to do for next time. Seems to me like its just a bit of a fluke and how well you do on the day. Any advice? Do you think being a special will put me at an advantage? Do more people tend to get in second time. I have another centre in April and dreading it!

I’m just coming to the end of my specials training and can not wait to start!!!! However the force I will be a special for is just about to do a recruiting drive. I know it can take anything up to two years to get in but how do forces view applying so early? I’ve heard rumours that being a special for a short time can actually hinder your career as the forces tend to want to keep you as a “free copâ€. Any ideas?

Hello people. I have just been told that I have to attend and informal interview at Kings Lynn Police Station. Has anyone had a Special's informal interview? if so, what sort of questions are they going to ask? Thanks Matthew

Hi, I'm awaiting for a start date at the moment and am looking at various boroughs, in particular Lambeth, Southwark, Croydon and Merton. Is there anyone here who is in these boroughs, how flexible are they, do they have restrictions when you can do your special constable duty, like just on fridays and saturdays, or a minimum of 2 fridays per month etc. many thanks Richard

hi there, I'm all new to this site. looks good. well, i applied to the met as a PCSO, but failed the day one assessment by just one low scoring mark! i have been told to re apply in 6 months, and maybe will do, but after all that, im looking towards even applying to be an SC for TVP. i have spoken to recruitment, and the 6 month rule does not apply, and failing the pcso bit gutted me big, and has only made me now more determined to get into the police, and at the same time take another more better look at my options. im hopefully attending a roadshow next month to check it out and sort the application and get the ball rolling again. thanks everyone. ps: btw h…

I have been wanting to join the Police for some time now and have been waiting patiently for recruitment to open up in my area (Northumbria). It is possibly going to be the end of 2007 or start of 2008 before they may be recruiting again. Currently Durham are recruiting Specials and due my close proximity to the Durham area I was considering applying. However on the policecouldyou website it clearly states that you can only apply to one force at a time. Is this true if say Northumbria started recruiting that I coudn't apply for a Police Officer with them if I was in the application process with Durham as a Special? Also it said that you cannot apply twice within 6 month…

Im awaiting vetting and ctc clearance for M.S.C..... Just wondering what a typical day might be like? I read one post that suggested Special Constables sometimes patrol without a regular. Can you ever assist in undercover operations or are you permently confined to open days, foot patrols etc? Also is it possible to get extra training? i.e Surveilance, Driving, Advanced control and restraint techniques or advanced first aid etc? Thanks alot

do specials just walk into the station and put their unform on whenever they want? of do they need to see a sargent or something?

I am a new user on this foum, and i have just passed my day two assesment (medical and physical) for the metropolitan police special constabulary. All that now remains are my references and security checks to come back which should both be fine! I'm just wondering if there is anybody out there (maybe a special in the met themselves, or in the met regulars) who can give me any advice for when i do go out on duty. Obviously i would have done all my training, but i think you get a lot more useful information and advice from the voice of experience. Thanks in advance for any advice :)
