I recieved my letter this morning from the Met congratulating me on passing my day 1 assessment, now I just need a medical and fitness test. I'm still shocked but very very pleased. Can anyone tell me how common it is for a 19 year old to be chosen? I was the youngest person I saw on the day and was hoping that age would not be a factor for the assessors. How difficult is the training? i.e. if you fail the test are you allowed a retake? And what does the training usually consist of? When do I get my uniform? Apologies for all the questions. I'm just over the moon at the moment.

i have heard that the only 2 tests you have to do are the numeracy test and verbal reasoning. The verbal usage, checking information and observation tests are no longer used. Is this true? I am applying for South Wales.

Hi all, I am due to attend a recruitment seminar for Warks specials this evening, It's something I've always thought about doing and since I applied for Warks regulars back in April and have recently received a letter stating that recruitment will take between 18 months - 2 years (due to funding probs i've heard), I thought it would be the perfect time to do it. However, I was speaking to a friend who's also applied to regulars and she had friends already in the force who have told her that being a special can actually be detrimental to regular application as the force is basically getting a free resource from you after spending money training you...therefore why would …

Im looking at an application into the Police at some point in the near future and thought perhaps it may be an idea to apply for Specials, just to get a feel for things and how it all works. Going through the criteria for candidates, I am ineligible on the basis that I am a firefighter. Could someone explain how being a firefighter gives the service a good cause to block all applications from that profession. I would understand it if I was a professional car theif or drug dealer, however I fail to understand the thinking behind that ruling. Does anyone on here know why this is the case ? Thanks (ps mods - I did search the forum, however, the search returned no replie…

I need to answer the following questions and was wondering what is the best way to go about them. I don't want to go off on the wrong topic ... any help appriciated Tell me something about when you were part of a team to achieve a common goal Here i was going to mention how i worked in a team at a previous job, what my role was and how i built relationships within the team. Also what goals we had and how we achieved them... such as special event. Is that right or wrong? Give an example of when you have shown respect for diversity Here i was going to talk about working with chidren with disabilities in my current job and how i treat them and adapt to suit needs etc.…

Hey guys, the day after my assessment center on May 8th i went into the local station to ask about going on a shadowing shift. They said they would get back to me in a week or 2 and i have chased them up 3 times now 6 weeks on and still nothing. They say it can take upto 13 weeks for vettings to clear, my interview is only 6 weeks away so i hope i get it in time! How long did you all wait? and was it worth your while? Id like to inbed my experience into my interview questions so really hope its not much longer!

Hi Guys, This is my first post on the forums... I have an assessment day on 6th March to become a Special Constable in Hampshire. Can anyone give me any tips on the interview process and if you found the day hard or easier than it sounds. I have been reading several books including 'The new police selection system' and they make it sound quite hard but i think there arte several differences to a regular and special? The letter i recieved states a 2 hr Police Initial Recruitment test and fitness test after. Im abit concerned about the interview so any information about the day / interview or any aspects of the assessment day will be greatly appriciated. :)

Hi, I'm 18 on Monday. I sent away for the application pack for the Lothian & Borders Police and it arrived this morning. I was originally considering applying as a regular PC but I'm now thinking the specials would be better, taking into account my age and life experience perhaps applying for the specials first would be a better idea then If all goes well apply for the job of PC. I think it would give some first hand knowledge of what the job is actually like, would also help build life experience and help with future application for the role of PC. Whats your opinion? any advice you could give? I also have another question, Only being 18 and with little life exp…

I'm currently waiting for my assessment centre date with avon and somerset regular police. have been told that it could be as late as december this year which could mean a start date (if i pass) around september 2008!! I've heard from a few topics on the board that it is worth looking at the specials while applying for the regular police. A few potential problems I can see i my case which i would like some advice on: if i was to be a special it would be in west mids not a&s, and my hypothetical start date only gives me just over a year before i'd move to bristol. Is just over a year long enough for it to be worth considering the specials taking into account rec…

Hi guys, I am looking into becoming a Special as a way of gaining experience and confidence with the ultimate aim of becoming a regular. Having read the applications forms it is apparent that an individuals financial position is important in your selection and rightly so! my question is however, what threshold is there in what is deemed to be an acceptable debt? Whilst I have a large debt from travelling twice around the world I have never defaulted on payements have no ccj's and have never been bankrupt. I am currently paying my debt off and do not find myself in difficulties. Do i still have a chance with the application ? Thanks in advance...
