Specials

I'm so fed up, this is the fifth weekend that I have had training cancelled at the last minute and shuffled around to different weekends, I'm been doing this since May and I just want to finish and get out of this mess that is training. I'm sorry, I'm just annoyed. It's not like they give me any warning, I get a last minute text saying 'sorry etc etc ............'. So so so fed up! So how is everyone else? By the way Specials training is amazing, please don't be put off, it's brilliant!

A quick question as to whether you'd be allowed to join the specials if you are still in education. I'm seventeen (despite saying I was sixteen a few days ago, because I'm still getting used to saying I am) and at college. I only need to go 3 days a week and figured that when I'm 18 I could apply and use it as valuable experience for joining the police after my current course at college. Would they allow you to do that?

This is something I've been wondering for some time... I know what Specials do and what they're for, but I've never understood why they don't get paid if they're practically the same as a reg. And they even have more powers than a fully paid PCSO does! And also, why do people apply to be a Special if they failed the reg application? Is it easier or something? Surely they might as well try for the regs again because at least they can earn a living that way?

Hey guys got my uniform fitting soon hopefully, just wondered if you actually get given a uniform there and then to wear to your training or wheather you have to wait and get it later on? What does the day entail? I think when you phone up to make an appointment they ask for your applette number so im assuming they may get it all ready for your appointment? I am under the impression you have to buy your own boots in Hampshire also? Cheers!

All done today. Had my picture taken first off, and saw what I will look like on my card - scary! Then on for a medical. First stop was the Force doctor, who weighed me and measured me BMI was 31 but she wasnt concerned and said its fine. Next stop was a nurse, who let me go to the toilet in a little container, confirmed that I can breath, hear and see ok. That was it, job done Then uniform fitting, which consisted of me trying on a pair of trousers, a helmet and a tunic. Wanted to play with all the goodies in there but didnt get chance. Now just gotta wait to see if my sample is clean (it should be!), and then a letter off recruitment saying when I can start (hopef…

Just wondered really ..... What do all you specials do for a full time job? Are you looking to join the regs at some point? Im an IT Technician in a Secondary school and i find it quite boring And start training for the specials with Hampshire Constabulary in October

Hey guys, Im just waiting on 1 reference now thats holding me up from starting which was a position at Focus DIY. I worked here for about 2 months then left due to a new position elsewhere. I got on well with staff and did my work but perhapse looking back didn't put much effort into the job. The manager that i put as my reference has left and the staff has changed alot so they are having problems getting a reference done for me. My question is can they give a bad reference that could effect my application? I left during my probation after a discussion with my line manager who agreed i should do whats best for me at the time. Hi, I have recently passed my PIRT test and have my medical on Wednesday. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of things they did and what you need to pass it. Im asthmatic and I know some forces dont allow those who are, im in the middle of my application with Cleveland Police. Can anyone help me, Emma

Just passed my medical although i have asthma. So now i only have security checks to go. How long do these usually take? Im a bit worried as my 2 brothers have been in trouble with the police quite a bit for fighting and other things but nothing major but have never been 2 jail. Im trying 2 find out what are my chances of getting through vetting with 2 brothers like them? I havent seen or spoke 2 either of them for about 7 years i just hear about them through friends of the family. So what do you think my chances are? Anyone here got family who have been in trouble with the police and still passed the vetting?? ANy comments will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Im applying for the specials as well as PC, im 18 just about turn 19. Now chances are that I wont get far with the PC, I hear they dont take a second glance at people under 20. But I'd like to think that I stand a chance as a special. Im mature, I've been brought up in a military family so Id like to say I act older than I am. I look my age though, and I worry a bit that im not going to be taken seriously. I mean can you imagine having a teenager arrest you? I hoping a uniform will make me look a bit more grown up :) Any advice from others would be great

Can anyone give me some idea on what kind of format the structured interview questions take? i.e are they simply "tell us about a time when you have worked as part of a team or shown resilience" or more along the lines of the types of question asked on the regs application form where they are broken down into sections? Do they give you a card with the question on it to refer back to, and do they state which competency is being questioned? I may be looking too far into it, but I just want to be as best prepared as I can. HELP!!

Hello. It's been a while since I have been here! Computer broke and everything went wrong, so havent been on for a while. since ive been away? I got attested as a special, which was nerve wrecking (is that right? ) and took my first live calls at metcall. now about 4 weeks in. had my first arrest of wednesday for ABH! again, that was very nerve wrecking. and the paperwork! honestly!!! metcall has been amazing, last weekend had 2 firearms incidents and 3 fights with weapons and an attempted suicide. eek. so yeah. whats been going on since i havent been here?

I have made the initial assessment but am worried about my medical. I was diagnosed with mild OCD and my doctor advised me to go on prozac for a year. I feel absolutely fine now and have never had a day off work because of it. In fact I am better at work than being at home. Will they turn me down?
