The South Yorkshire recruiting drive started yesterday for regulars, there was myself, my lady and my dad all trying to get through to get me a place at the meeting as the lines were really busy. Anyway the missus gets through and tells me i've got a place, but that she told them i had a full driving licence. I've only just started lessons, and was told by a lady in recruitment office a couple of weeks back that that was adequate, but when they rung me to confirm my place yesterday they told me it wasn't, and that they can't consider me until i pass driving test. Im joining gloucestershire constabulary as a special constable and was wondering what the difference is in uniform between a regular officer and a special. I know the pcso uniform has police community support officer wrote on the back of they're jackets and a police officer has police but what does a special have on the back? Also whats the difference between the uniforms, reg and special?

I work as an inspector for SW Trains and for some time I've dealt with certain individuals in this capacity. They not being aware of my SPC (police powers) as I have managed to sort them out with my Revenue Protection Inspector (RPI) warrant card. Has anyone here passed vetting and security checks although they're family have been in trouble?

Alright I'm going to need advice. Let me explain. I applied as a special in Essex back in September thinking that I'd do it for a year or two before I apply to Essex full time. December comes and Essex open their recruitment for full time so I applied thinking that it would probably take ages. I've been given a provisional start date to start training full time on April the 10th. I've done one shift so far and my Sergeant worked his nuts off to sort me out the nick I have and he sorted all my kit/locker/everything else. How do I tell him that I'm leaving the specials? I feel like a bit of an Ar$e at the moment.

on a day to day basis what do you expect to be doing as a special constable, and what effect do you think being a special constable might have on your personal life? this is one of the questions in my application can anyone give me some insight into life as a special constable and the duties you perform? also how does it effect your personal life?

Hi all, i passed my interview last week and have my medical next thursday. Im worried mainly because of 2 things. first of all i have asthmam i dnt hardy suffer from it. The only time i have to use my inhaler is when i have a chest infection which is about 3 times a year, if that. The second thing is my bmi. My bmi is 31, im 6ft and weigh 15st 7 but when dressed i weigh 15st 12. I think i read somewhere that my bmi has to be under 30. What i would like to know is if my bmi is 31, is the doctor fail me for it or will they give me a chance to get it down within a certain amount of time. And also does anyone here have asthma? Thanks.

I had my A/C for the Specials on 16/03/2007, got a letter today saying that I passed! I have just received my application form for the specials. im really not sure if im heading down the right track. cudsum 1 give me a bit of advice as to what sort of answer they are looking for. for example is a work based answer better?

Hello, I'm a little confused about the interview for the specials. I've heard people say its focused on the core competencies? What are these? Are they the questions that were on the app form? Am I definately going to be asked about them? Thanks alot.

Hello, Just curious to see the opinion of Special Constables with regard to the change in jurisdiction powers in April of this year (2007). I've heard that English/Welsh Specials will get powers throughout England and Wales in April. If this is true would you be interested in working in a different force as a kind of "attachment"? If so which force would you quite like to do an attachment with and why?
