Hello people, I have applied to become a Special in the Norfolk area. I have passed the P.I.R.T. (at the top of my class I was told I have now been told that I have to wait for my local town's Police Station to contact me for a interview. What I don't understand is that they have requested I take a medical (which I have booked for the 5th March!) So, some questions. 1: Does it matter to the force how good your P.I.R.T. score is or are they just interested in it being a pass or fail? 2: Where is the logic of asking me to take a medical if i haven't had a proper interview yet? Happy to hear from anybody. Matthew

I have passed the interview to be a PCSO for GMP. For various reasons I am thinking about turning the position down and joining as a Special instead. Will I have to go through the whole application again or can I just Transfer? Also is the weekend training Flexible or do you have to attend every weekend for 9 weeks? Any other information would be appreciated. Regards

Hi all, Was wondering if anyone here has recently gone through the A/C for the Specials, especially in the Met. Got mine in three weeks. Still waiting for my info pack. Have no idea what to expect. How similar is it to the regulars, what format does the interview take etc. Any help is really appreciated. Cheers Richard

Quote from the Hull Daily Mail SPECIAL POLICE TO GET £1,500 09:30 - 04 August 2003 Police chiefs have been given the go ahead to pay special constables in a bid to increase the number of high visibility patrols in East Yorkshire. And it means Humberside Police is the first force in Britain where specials are paid after the scheme was given Home Office backing. Senior officers hope the move will encourage more public-spirited residents to volunteer to become specials. Now £750,000 has been set aside to pay specials up to £1,500 a year in return for at least 208 hours of high visible patrols. The scheme will be reviewed after 12 months. But Humberside Pol…

Well i applied as a police officer for Humberside police. I failed (B, C, C - average C) So I'm applying as a special. If I am accepted as a special, will this be beneficial to my application when I come to re-apply? And also, as a special, what equipment are you supplied with (hand-cuffs, CS spray, etc.) and not supplied with. :?
