Watches some police camera action on iplayer last night and was wondering about this scenario. Let's say I'm driving down a dual carriage on the left lane with no other vehicles around. Then blue lights flashing in the rear mirror and coppers are pursuing another vehicle which then trys to get past by going on the fast lane. What if: I purposely block the vehicle in pursuit in order to help the police which then got rammed. Will I be compensated for my vehicle's damage? Now another question, what if I do not intervene with the situation and move out of the way but got hit by the police's car. Will I be compensated? My next one would be what if my vehicle was comman…

sitting in the victoria infirmiry A&E in glasgow, as per usual there is such a lovely crowd in there, one particular recreational drug user starts being abusive towards other patients waiting to be seen ; (apologies for anyone who doesnt remotely understand glaswegian ) "wit ye lookin at you fat boot, lose some weight before ye gee me evils you dirty ######" and then proceeds to start singing the "ey fatty boom boom" song from Ali G. the woman in question being abused of course says nothing... the recreational drug user then (i kid you not) starts "carressing" (for lack of a better word) an empty wheelchair; a doctor then proceeds to call out another patients na…

So, you out on a night out with your mates and either in a bar/nightclub when someone starts to cause a confrontation with you, you try to avoid the person and continue to enjoy your night but this person is determined to cause a fight between you & them. It comes to a point where you's are face to face and he is saying all the usual things before a physical fight starts, what do you do?? Do you tell them your an off-duty police officer or not? Do you call 999 and identify yourself as off duty and that you have a problem with someone whos being aggresive and trying to start a fight with you? Or when the male makes a threatening move towards you, do you/can you deta…

Ok for this scenario, you walking up a road, when you hear the high pitch whine of an unsilenced two stroke and a child quad , (one of those for kids about 6 or 7,) comes round the corner, you step into the road and indicate for it to stop, it swerves round you and carries on to the bottom of the street, where it turns off on to some rough open land. A man walking along carrying a can of petrol and a deck chair, laughs at you and says, you have to catch her if you want her, he declines to confirm if he is with the child or what his N&A is and just walks of after the quad on to the open ground what offences and by who, and what would you do about it ?

While on mobile patrol, you see a car driving along the road. There is a driver, a front passenger and two rear passengers. As you watch the car drive past, you notice a small child, aged about six years old, standing on the lap of a rear female passenger and leaning precariously out of the window. You alert the driver to pull over. As he steps out, you realise he is a taxi driver and the others in the car are the passengers. It emerges that the female the child has been standing on is its mother. There is a child's seat in between the two passengers but it has not been used. How would you deal with: a) the taxi driver? b) the mother? and would your course of action …

After seeing an advert for Scream 4, that made me think. What would the offence be if someone dressed up in something like the scream costume and say, hid somewhere and genuinely scared someone with the costume. By chasing them, really distressing them and scaring them. Not just the normal 'boo' and run away like we all used to do at halloween. I had a look on legislation.gov. My guess would ut would be under 4A POA? Andy

this is an awkward problem i have given a bit of thought too, but there are no easy answers, so i thought id see what the great minds on here thought. the scenario is,, i have two cars that I use alternately, a soft top for the summer and a 4b4 for the other 11 months:rolleyes:. i keep both cars taxed and moted but move the insurance between them as the weather changes. IF i lend, say, the soft top, currently NOT covered by my insurance to my friend, to drive on his DOV cover, then clearly he is insured to drive it. but lets say he parks it up and walks away from it, it would seem that there is now no insurance for the car being used on the road ? but who has com…

With the ever increasing premiums and growing numbers of people not bothering to insure their cars. What would you do if hit by uninsured driver or someone you suspect has given you completely false details as a MoP and as a Off Duty officer. If they were determined to leave or refused to stop in the first place what should someone look at doing?

It's my Birthday today and just opened one of my cards which has a ticket for tonights lottery in 10 mins. It has just got me thinking... If I won the Jackpot and did not give any to anyone or the people who bought me the ticket, could they claim the jackpot money as they purchased the ticket even though they gave it to me as a gift? I know it's a strange one but just popped into my head.

Lets imagine your sitting somewhere public and eating. Someone you don't like comes over and rather than attacking you spits in your chips! What offences do you think might be relevant? Criminal damage to the chips? Or section 4 public order?

I am a special in training, was driving back home after training today and a car overtook me argressively in a dangerous manner. A cloud of smoke came out of the car in question and I could smell cannabis even from my car. Thought about following the car and report that in over the phone when/if I get a chance but then I thought it's probably a bad idea so I continue my way home and report it to the station just round where I live. Luckily I saw two PCSOs cycling down the next road as I drove pass so I passed on vehicle registration with description of the said person (by the way he's got a burberry cap on) and let them deal with it. Have I done the right thing? Wou…

What would You do? You are on duty, and you can hear small group of youngsters being disorderly, on approach you notice them to start naming you all the names under the sun in another language. They do not know you can understand every word. There are some MoP around and they do look at those youngsters but they cannot understand a word. any ideas?

Ok, just wondering would could be done in the following situation: You are called out to reports of some people trespassing on a farmers land and have been warned that they are carrying knives. They comply and after a search you find a lock/fixed blade kinves on each of the two people present. However, the land is not a public place (no ready access for the public); they are neighbours of the farmer and climbed over a wall bordering their property and the farmer's. They caused no damage while entering the property. The two people claim that they are going for a walk accross the land (without the farmer's permission) and are carrying the knives for self defence. I canno…

SMITH has an old banger of a car. It has a leaky oil pipe in the engine and SMITH knows about it. He continues to drive the car though, simply topping up the oil before each journey. On one trip a large amount of oil is left on the road. A car travelling behind SMITH skids on the oil, hits a tree and the driver is killed. SMITH has completed his journey by this point and is at home. What offences, if any, has SMITH committed?
