Fred lives in Flat 12. Below him in flat 6 lives Bill. They know of each other but don’t speak anymore as there was a nasty intimate assault by Bills cat on Freds cat Fred subscribes to Sky and also uses them for his wireless interweb connection. His wireless system has a fault that means you can log onto his router without a password. Fred has just realised this after 6 months of use. Bill has also realised this and 3 months ago cancelled his own BT wireless and is now surfing for free. Bill does not know that its Freds system he’s using. You receive a call to attend No. 12 and are told by Fred that he has learnt from Vera at number 8 what Bill is up to. Fred is v…

You are sent to a house for a fear for welfare. Ambulance is on scene but will not make entry to the house. they have knocked but know one is answering, upon arriving you can see a light on in the upstairs bedroom but again no answer from the door. You look round the house and find all doors and windows locked. Fearing for there safety you force entry as you approach the room upstairs you see a lot of blood and a male on his bed laying down awake but with a large bandage around his chest. He is awake and responds to you. When asked what happened he says he was stabbed and has made his way home and given him self first aid. The male is in his mid 20s, he seems completly…

Myself and a colleague got talking the other night as you often do when you’re sat in a car and everyone seems to be behaving. We were on the subject of S59 warning when I had a thought (doesn’t happen often) that neither of us could answer so thought I’d put it out there to the masses Jonny has a lovely 1.4 fiesta and unfortunately feels that a year driving experience means he can drive like an idiot. You have a chat with him and issue a s59. As we know a 59 is marked against the driver and vehicle so if the driver is caught again weather in their own vehicle or someone else’s the vehicle can be taken from them, this then also applies if someone is driving their…

You've just been attested that day, you enjoy a nice meal out with family and on driving home you see a male lying on the pavement. You decide to stop the car as you swore to protect life and property earlier on and are unsure if it's a hit and run or anything else. An ambulance drives by and stops seconds before you. you get out and ask if everything's ok to which the paramedics ask do you know this guy? Would you say that you are police or not and show your ID? Any thoughts?

I had a conversation with a customer today who knew I was joining the specials, now he told me of a Police car left unattended in his daughters road parked up with the windows down and the keys in ignition with running engine, he saw the officers park and wait for around 5 minutes and then get out and walk away for around 15 minutes leaving the car as I have stated. He wanted to know if he took the keys locked it up what would of happened to him,any offences etc. he was a bit peeved off as he said by doing so they were leaving the car at risk and wasting his council tax(yeah yeah). My first answer was the car is more than likely fitted with a anti theft device which I h…

Hi all My apologies if I have put this into the wrong section. I'm currently still in training and have a query which has arisen as I am confused with the ability to search people under Section 1 PACE. I thought that you cannot search a person just on the basis of their previous convictions or previous knowledge about them for example: You receive a report of a person who is possibly drunk/taken drugs and is shouting abuse at people in the street, you respond and when you get there the indiviual is obviously intoxicated but they are not abusive, they comply with what you say and would probably be better described as a 'happy drunk'. You PNC them and the information th…

I was thinking about this scenario earlier and what other officers would do in this situation Okay, so you're chatting to someone on a busy weekend night usual drunken antics going on, whilst you're chatting to an injured party someone either starts messing with the equipment on your belt, or removes something and starts playing with it Just from this point what powers would you have at your disposal and what would you do i.e take the equipment off them and tell them to move on? Obviously if someone took your baton off you that would be pretty worrying. Thanks in advance to any replies

Hi guys. As a special, if i'm at work doing my normal job can i tell people to get off their mobile phone whilst they are stuck in traffic and show my warrant card to ID myself. I would never tell people whilst traffic is moving for obvious reasons. I'm willing for any possible disturbance or inconvienience that might come my way, i just need to know am i withn my rights to show my warrant card and advise people. In uniform, i would issue a fine. Regards, Law00

There are reports of a man watching primary school children through the school fence at various times of the day. Your children attend this school. It is not believed that he is a parent of any child at that school. He is not a member of staff or related to/employed by the school in any way. Parents are concerned. The school have reported this to the police. You are taking your children to school one morning with your partner and you see this same man. You are off duty. What do you do?

Hi all Just returned from Scotland on business and something struck me, let's say a English hi police force was following/Pesuing a vehicle up the m6 towards Scotland, what happens when they get to the Scottish border? As obviously we don't have any powers there, and maybe would be sometime before a scttish unit got there, so the "suspect" could get away!

Jim and Richard are two residents at a private care home for dementia sufferers. Jim has no next of kin and Richard is married to Elsie who visits him daily. It is dinner time, and Jim and Richard are sat a table together eating their dinner. Elsie is also present, talking to Richard and helping him eat by passing him cutlery etc. Suddenly Jim's hand appears and tried to take a sausage off Richard's plate. Elsie sees this and reacts by giving Jim a light slap on the offending hand and says "Don't take what isn't yours, that is very rude!". Nothing more is said by any of the people involved and they continue as they were. What offences have been committed (if any)?

This scenario actually happened to some officers on my borough, I don't know the full story 100% but the scenario is very very related. Bailiffs attend a property with a court order which stated they can take the suspects car. The suspects then manage to sit in the vehicle and lock the door. The 2 suspects are sitting in the car which is mean't to be taken away but as we all know the bailiffs can't take the car if they are both inside it. Eventually a PS then decides she will arrest both of them inside the car for BoP so, they smash the car windows and pull the suspects outside. 1 is de-arrested the other is arrested for BoP and taken to custody. Say the suspects were n…

Having just driven home down a one way street, the left hand side of the street has parking bays clearly marked up as such, but being night time, no-one seems to park in them. Normally during the day you'd be driving past the parked cars, but if it's empty, is there anything in law to: a) stop you driving in them as it's the left hand side of the road, or b) imply that you shouldn't drive in such bays, regardless of if they're empty and no traffic around? As it would surely seem silly to be driving on the right hand side of the road with nothing on the inside? Thoughts please.
