David goes to a book store which buys and sells first and second hand books. David selects several expensive text books worth £50 each. He proceeds to go use the toilet to take the price tags/any identifying features off. He then goes to the second hand section and sells the books back to the shop for half their retail price. What offences has he committed? Theft, Fraud or both? then in a similar fashion...what if he used the money he had gained to buy a first hand book leaving only with a book.

Imagine this. You are chatting with friends at a party or other social occasion, and one of them lights up a joint. And how about they all start having a puff on it. They know you're a police officer, but they've known you for about a year, so they think you're "cool enough" that you "won't snitch", and they don't care about you. What would you do? Would you leave it, and report it later? Or would you challenge them immediately. Or wouldn't you do anything? I won't even suggest you would join it! Then I wouldn't think of you as a police officer, just a criminal in uniform.

Your an off duty SC and you are out of your force area and arrive immediately at a car crash.. No people about, other then the participants in the crash. Do you stop to help? If so, what can you do to help from an SC point of view rather then an MOP point of view. (if you are wondering, yes i would help out if I could, but I'm not an SC yet)

You know when you go shopping and buy a trolly ( or renk? for £1 and have to give back after and get money back ) so you had been doing shoping and left your trolley in the isle to get some cake for example , and somebody came and stole your entire trolly with your things you had added to it ( not paid for yet, but the trolley sorta had ) what offences? is it still stealing items even if you had not actually bought them yet ,?

I'm almost 100% sure that that the offence is theft but I'm just curious as to what you'd do in this situation You are a Special Constable and you are on duty. You are assigned to a job where someone has got onto a bus and has refused to pay the fare. They have simply got on and have just sat down. The bus driver has been in touch with his supervisor and that is who has called you. You arrive at the bus, which is parked at a bus stop with the engine off. What do you do?

You pull over a 50cc moped driven by a 16 year old. He was driving @ around 25 - 30mph The moped is a Piaggio and it has a road-legal aftermarket exhaust. You believe the restrictor for the moped is in the exhaust and that it has been de-restricted. the 16 year old is refusing to comment, how would you go about proving it has been de-restricted?

A car being parked on the street is reversing into a space and accidently bumps the car behind, breaking a light casing and cracking the bumper. The car parks up and the driver gets out and examines the damage. The driver looks around and notices a couple of people watching them. They go back to their car and writes on a piece of paper, before tucking it under the windscreen wiper of the car they hit. They then get back in their car and drive away. The owner of the hit car returns to it and notices the damage and the paper. They pick up the piece of paper and read it and it says "I crashed into your car. People saw so I thought I'd write on this so they thought I was lea…

Apologies if this has already been posited, but I couldn't find a similar scenario. Note, I am not a serving Police Officer, but I am in the SC application process. I have also heard this message more than once on trains. Background - You spend a lot of time commuting to London (an hour on a good day, considerably more when there is a 'signal failure'. This particular train company offers no benefits to passengers who are police officers so you are travelling on a normal ticket. The train is approximately 8 carriages and there is normally more than enough seats for everyone on the last commuter trip of the day (which this is), so the train is not overcrowded. The m…

Two girls on a night out start fighting with one another. You're the first officer on scene, other patrols are making but from the other end of the town. A crowd has gathered and given them space to fight with no intervention from anyone. Both have ironclad grip of each others hair, neither is showing any signs of easing off and have no regard for your warnings to stop. what do you do

When I was 16, I was refused the sale of a superglue, because the age limit was 18, after an attempt to sway the cashier to look the other way I left empty handed. Although, say if I would've just placed the money on the counter, and walked out of the store, what offence is committed? I was unsure if it was Theft, because the young person knew they wasn't allowed to buy the superglue, is that dishonestly appropriating, even though they have left the money that the store would've sold it for to someone older? I'm sure there is an offence, but if not theft, what offence is committed?

A driver has just finished a health appointment at his local surgery which has a very small car park. On reversing out of car park driver accidently makes contact with another parked car causing suspected slight scraching to the other vehicle. Driver then re-parks his vehicles gets out - the other vehicle is parked up with nobody in - slight scratches are seen on the vehicle, but it is not clear whether these are fresh or old as the vehicle is approx 5 years old and not in the best condition. As a result of this, driver walks back in to surgery, but everybody is busy and driver has to be somewhere. Driver then leaves the car park and telephones the surgery approx 30 mins …

I live near a busy three lane road it's a 40mph speed limit but quite fast flowing as its one of the main road out of the city centre and leads to the motorway. On the main road is a large lay-by where for the last 6 months somebody has been runing what appears to be a second hand car business. 5 or 6 different cars appear a week each with FOR SALE signs in the window. The cars are all old and range from around £400-£800. Any offence?

I will set the scene, A couple out on a date are in a taxi when they see a female being set on by a male, they stop the taxi and ask the driver to call the police. As they pull the guy off the girl the man runs off, 3 other people, the girls friends run over(1 female and 2 males). They start to attack the couple as they believe they are beating up their friend but the real aggressor has run off. The police arrive to find the couple shaken but not seriously hurt, the couple point out that all 4 of the suspect have ran to a nearby house. The police knock on the door and the couple identify the suspect. As the police are dealing with the suspect an observer with the police …

Does not shake hands. 2 days later the buyer decides not to buy the vehicle (can not afford) The dealer says well we have taxed it and sent the log book off in your name so you will have to buy it now. Whilst working at your day job a delivery driver offers to sell you imported cigarettes at half the price of cigarettes bought in the UK. Pretty good bet they are illegaly imported. p.s. you dont smoke so you are not interested anyway. Question call in? ignore?
