You stop a vehicle as its manor of driving is suspicious. When asking for a PNC, the insurance does not relate back to the driver of the vehicle. The driver claims that he does not solely take out insurance for this vehicle, but owns another vehicle which he is fully comp with and claims that this insurance allows him to drive any other car third party. This is fair enough, but how does the police officer verify that what he is saying is correct? Producing insurance details to a police station within a certain amount of time may be a choice but that could potentially leave an uninsured vehicle on the road.

Just watching a link on Youtube to a few nasty fights between professional footballers a friend e-mailed to me. My question is:- You never hear about the player pressing charges against the other if punched -kicked etc.... Zidanes headbutt for instance. is the football pitch one of those happened on the pitch leave it on the pitch or players are not allowed to pursue such a claim or just brush it off and carry on? some are quite violent. Just to satisfy my curiosity its 1am afterall.

The other day I was running to a grade 1 (I call) incident, as I was about 10 minutes away, there was a bus waiting for passengers to board that I though about getting on but then with it stopping it would have taken me longer to get there. So I got thinking: one could you commandeer it and two could you ask / order the driver not to stop at bus stops?

    1. You driving your car and come to a stop and some red traffic lights when people come from the side of the road and start putting 'cleaning' your windows, you tell them to go away but they dont listen and end up using your screenwash to keep them away. Possible outcomes? 2. Brand new Porsche with heavily tinted front side windows (passenger and driver side windows). It's on embassy plates, any offences?

So, you're a fully signed-up Special (or indeed regular officer) and you move flats. You spend your first night in your new flat only to find that the residents in the flat below smoke cannabis, with the smoke and smell of the drug wafting into your flat through the open windows every day. Over the following days and weeks it becomes clear that this is not just a one-off incident, but a very regular occurrence. What would / could and perhaps most importantly should you do? Concerns I would have include: - What if you get tested for drugs and you show as postive? (Presumably a test would show a postive in such a scenario?) - Given any intel would 'only' relate to regul…

If someone doesn't look before they open a car door either a passenger onto the cycle track or the driver onto the road and cause an accident , what is the offence?

Simple question really I'm sure but so far I have a blank - can't work it out. The senario is; Is half way through the half term holiday and you get sent to a job. Upon arrival at the address a mother informs you that her 15yr old son has been threatened. The circumstances are that on the last day of term, as he walked across the playground to leave school at the end of the school day, Biffo and three of his gang said to her son Frank that if he returned to school after half term, they would beat him up. What are the offences? So far I've ruled out common assault (no sense of imminent). Sec 5, 4a public order offences are stuffed as its private property. So far …

Recently I was involved in an incident where a suspected drug dealer was arrested for PWITS. At the same time his phone was seized. The whole time while dealing, this phone did not stop ringing, presumably because buyers wanted their morning fix. I asked an experienced PC (who is now my tutor and very competent) and my Sgt if we could answer the phone and see who was calling. My thinking was that we could gather intelligence and possibly stumble across something else. They both said that doing that is a big no no as it amounts to entrapment. I'd never heard of this but I have absolutely no reason to think either are wrong, they are both far more experienced than me and b…

Hi all, Sorry for the bizzarre topic title. Also apologies if this seems a stupid question or whatever... And yes I have used forum search and google etc. Basically, say there is a dual carriage way which about half a mile down the road goes into a single carriageway (that doesn't really make any difference to the scenario like but hey ho!). Well, if there is queing traffic in the left hand lane of the said dual carriageway, but none in the right, it is obviously perfectly legal (if somewhat annoying to some others) for fellow drivers to travel down the right hand lane to get further up the queue right? Well anyway, a driver in the left lane is unhappy about drivers d…

Squatter's rights is a hot topic these days, but I recently had an interesting discussion with a skipper about how to take squatters out of a squat legally; Arrest them for attempted burglary. It's unlikely that a real estate property doesn't have any property in it that belongs to someone. That property is likely to disappear as a direct result of the squatters being there, which would be burglary (i.e. entering an area not available to the public in order to steal) Because you suspect a crime, you could also use your powers under s17 of PACE to enter the property - by force if necessary - to effectuate the arrests. What do you guys think? Would it fly?

My colleague just asked me - if he was driving along and got stopped by the Police for having his phone in his hand for using it - when in actual fact he was just holding it - would it be illegal? He also asked if the Police could look through his phone to prove he had been using it there and then, or would they need to take it away as evidence?

It is Saturday Night, about 1 am, You're driving along a fairly busy patch of duel-carriageway chatting to your passenger, so possibly not being 100% observant. You overtake the car infront of you, which is going rather slow. As You overtake, you look in your mirror to pull back in, and realise that the only lights the vehicle has on, is a single sidelight. One side not working - no other lights. You think it is a bit odd, as it's a dark stretch of road. As you become more aware and continue to watch it in the mirror you realise the car is moving ever so slightly over the lane, not quite following a straight line, but not all over the place like your average tanked u…

Here's an interesting one... I was watching this drivel-ish video, and it got me wondering... Scenario: You pull over a cyclist for failing to stop at a red light Cyclist refuses to give information You arrest them under s24 to ascertain identity You search them under s32 (search after arrest) and find their wallet In their wallet, you find their driving licence Could you run their information from the driving licence through PNC etc, ascertain their identity, ticket them, and de-arrest them? Sounds like a useful thing to do if, say, the nick is completely full, or you cannot be hassled with the vast waste of time it would be to arrest that clown on the bi…
