Scenario, Consider a person has voluntarily entered a police station to admit to theft, you happen to know the person is wanted on warrant for multiple thefts involving a bladed article and admits he has evidence of these thefts at his home address (which is unknown) However, the station he enters is a non-designated station and the custody office is closed You have reason to arrest the person and it is necessary but you now need to take them to another station BUT If you believe he may have the bladed article on him or any evidence, can you search him?? Would you need permission from a person ranked inspector or above to give authority to search under PACE Section…

Officer is on IP on foot in a city. He spots a person in full face burka (what muslim ladies wear) in a shop who looks like a suspect wanted on warrant. This is due to a distinct scar on the eye that matches the suspect description through intel. Although the scar matches the description that the officer has received through intel as a worded description, he is not 100% sure as he has not seen the photo of the suspect. He approaches the suspect and ask them for their details, which they refuse to give. What should he do next?

but then what domestics is usual? anyhow. You are an officer newly deployed to your BCU. You rent a house locally with another guy and two sisters. A month in and you hit it off with one of the sisters(A), and you two are officially dating. However, the other sister(B) is jealous and protective. She is two years younger. Both sisters are in their 20s. B has generalised anxiety disorder. A thinks you are the guy of her dreams, and will not give you up. B becomes more irate over time. She becomes verabally abusive towards A, threatens to kill herself by jumping on train tracks, and says she will plan to break you two up. Being a thick skinned officer, you ignore B and t…

Okay so on patrol in the car and ANPR flags up for a vehicle in connection with supply of drugs. You pull the vehicle and approach and it is apparent the driver has locked the doors. You ask the driver to get out and switch the engine off and he seems reluctant, (he has his window slightly ajar). As your speaking you notice some wraps of what you think might be class A on the passenger seat. Driver then drives off quickly. Would you smash the window with your baton? Reason I'm asking is I saw it being done on a documentry and I thought it might have been excessive... Opinions please guys!

Your out on patrol on a early Friday morning. Feeling fairly hungry, you can not wait to go on your dinner break. Ok, so there has been reports of a young male suspiciously pulled up inside of a car park. You and your colleague decide to check it out. Upon approaching the young male, sat in the drivers seat, you see him quickly hide what appears to look like a bag of cocaine. After searching the car, and finding the Class A drug, along with what looks like white powder around the males nose, it looks like you MAY have an arrest. Well... here is the twist. The young male quickly runs to his boot, and pulls out a tasty, delicious, 12 pack of donuts will ALL of the toppin…

Just to settle a debate im having at work... If a person is suspected by a security guard to be about to or actually shoplifting can a PC or PCSO go in to the shop and deter them asking them to leave? (reason being the crime isnt committed) 2nd if that is the case can the officer share the details of the person with the store? (does this breach data protection) This scenario there is CCTV only of the person acting in a dodgy way.. not ripping tags off or anything like that. Thanks,

You are on uniformed patrol when you see a dog walker. You then see the dog make a mess and the dog owner just walks off and leaves it on the pavement. You challenge the dog owner and ask them to pick up the dog mess. They tell you that they haven't got any bags and they refuse to make the effort to source any. They also refuse to give you their detail. Now bearing in mind if you plan on making an arrest you would also have a dog to deal with. What would you do?

This is completely fictitious. Scenario Lets say a person is SEEN, by you, an officer, to run a red light in a car without a numberplate (basically there is NO WAY to tell who the driver is) So, you pull the car over, get out, approach the car (im currently in training so I do not know the exact procedure but lets say...) you ask them politely to turn off the engine and get out the car. (this is my question) You ask them their name and address but they refuse to tell you, fair enough they can, they also refuse to show you any ID they may have on them, HOWEVER, you now need to question them about the offence, so you give them the 'when questioned caution' and NOW HAVE…

So here is the scenario. A woman (doesn't have to be a woman but it was in this case) is caught shoplifting and is detained by store security until police arrive. She is a traveller currently residing at a local site. She has no photographic ID, nothing with her address on it, indeed nothing at all apart from a pay as you go phone and some cash. She is known to police but has not been dealt with for theft in the last 12 months at least. She is arrested on suspicion of theft and taken to custody. Whilst at custody it is decided that rather than charging her with theft she will be dealt with by means of a ticket, she says she is unable to pay at the time and is thus given…

Hi everyone. Now I wouldn't normally ask about this, but two days ago while at my day job in an Essex town myself and my colleague were completing some street works when we was approached by a lone male asking us whether we were interested in buying this phone from him. Now the phone is the newer version of my own work phone, which I know is only worth £10-30 brand new, cheap tat. After a few seconds of him listing the "features," we politely told him to "beat it." I don't attest with the Met until next month, but what should I have done differently a few days ago, and to consider what if this happened after my attestation? All I can think of for now is that I should p…

You are on patrol when you spot someone you recognise. You realise you recognise them from a briefing around 3 weeks ago telling you they are wanted on warrant. You stop and speak to the person who is cooperative but refuses to give you any details. You are certain they are the person from the briefing, but as you do not have their details (and you can't get a colleague to try and locate the original briefing document) you cannot check to see if the warrant is still active. What do you do?

Interestingly, I once brought this up in the PSU van one night about 7 years ago but we all laughed it off because of its unlikeliness... How would you deal with this? (Please feel free to move to "Scenario City" if it is more appropriate there). Your police force releases an "efit" of a male they want to question in relation to a serious offence in the area. You're on patrol in the high street one day and you recognise someone as having a resemblance to the image. The incident happened 4 days ago. The man you have spotted is not confirmed as being linked to the incident other than his resemblance to the efit picture. What do you do? Actions should be justified with ap…

Ok so I know how fond some on here are of a good old walt hunt You're on your way home from day job and turn the corner to see a male with his mobile phone in a uniformed constables face giving him the whole freeman speech- the officer is clearly out of his depth. for the sake of this you badge out and ask if he needs assistance, he doesn't and wants to just walk away and leave the whole situation, and upon closer inspection his uniform seems not quite right What would you do?

Hello all! me again (and this time I am just going to post this one time and not 'move on') You are on patrol on foot, independent in an inner city area around 5pm. A MOP inform you that a lone bag has been left outside a tube station nearby and no one has touched it. She says because she lives in the area, she has noticed the bag has been there for approximately 20 minutes. You go to the station with her and notice that there is a black bag right outside the station. The bag seems to be filled to the brim but it's not open, so you can't see inside. The bag is a large rucksack. What to do officer?
