A quick question... In your force if a complainant declines to prosecute for an offence, do you still take a statement? Do you put in the statement that they are declining to prosecute or do you not even bother obtaining a statement? Just wondered how this practice differed nationally! Thank you Regards

You are walking past a shopping centre in the centre of a SCOTTISH city, when the centre security throw two men (mid twenties) out right in front of you. The head secrutiy guy tells you they have been escorted out due to them acting in an aggressive manner while in the centre. He and the other security guards leave as they are busy, you have no time to stop them as the two men start shouting. The two men are shouting and swearing and walking back to the door of the shopping centre to go back in. You (a SC) and your reg partner block their path. They square up to you since they believe themselves to be 'hard men', though their clear lack of muscle begs to differ. The…

You turn upto a house where a couple have had their friend over. (They both own the house) Although the frend isn't doing anything wrong. The male of the couple doesn't want them there and has asked several times for them to leave. However the female of the couple doesnt want the friend to go and has said to stay anyway.... there has been a bit of an arguement between the couple so you are now there. do you kick them out and deal with the female? Or Let them stay and deal with the male?

You are off duty & at your day work. A colleague arrives at the office & during the banter complains about speed cameras and that he got a ticket through after being flashed, but as he was already on 6 points he was going to get his wife to take the points (with her collusion & consent) by saying she was driving. There are two other work colleagues in earshot & listening. What do you do.... 1) Ignore it 2) Have a quiet word but go no further 3) Ring control to send a unit to question him 4) Send details as Intel to Roads Policing 5) tell your supervisor when next on shift 6) (unlikely but someone might do this!) Arrest him on the spot 7) Any other…

Looking for an opinion about the episode posted on BBC iPlayer during the week, not sure if anyone has watched it but during the show there was an 18 year old pulled over for theft and not paying for his petrol at a petrol station. I turned out he had some sort of an agreement with the petrol station and his plates had been printed wrongly by a car company. The officers who were dealing with the case were unbelievable. It cringed with embarrassment at the unprofessional and childish attitude of both officers, the lad had a very valid point that he was given 14days to change his number plate but was then given a further £30 for driving with the wrong licence plates. Can…

You turn up to a house on an estate. A bloke has damaged a person's fence by kicking it in rage. A couple of fence panels have gone through. As you turn up, the prevsiously enraged male has appraoched, in a very calm manner, and said that he is willing to pay for the damage and is extremely sorry that he went off on one. Does he still need nicking for criminal damage? If the I.P is happy to accept his payment, does that make any difference?

Ignorant MOP here! So your watching the footie with friends in your front room. Drinks have been had by all. When something happens on the pitch and one of your friends throws a bottle in disgust - caught up in the moment - the bottle however breaks the screen on the TV (it was more of an arm movement in which the bottle was dropped/left the hand). Now the friend says it was an accident (it was) and as such he doesnt intend to pay for it, you should claim on your insurance for it. As it was an accident and with no intent is it criminal damage? - or would an officer tell the owner its a civil matter and something he needs to solve himself through small claims etc? Thi…

You are on duty with a regular officer on a Saturday night in the city centre. Its just gone 3am and the clubs start to close. You notice a group of guys about your age over the road grouped around in a circle and one of them seems to be peeing against a wall. You walk over and you see that the culprit taking a pee is infact one of your flatmates! The regular officer is busy talking to a girl who has asked a question, as the group of guys has dispersed upon your arrival you tell your flatmate to head home and not to be so stupid. The regular officer finishes talking with the girl and turns to see where you are just in time to see someone who has had too much to drink…

Really boring thought... but if I'm chasing somebody on foot in a busy town centre (or anywhere really) and my hat falls off somewhere, upon my return to the area it has gone missing. Am I going to be grilled and "told off" for losing my uniform due to it being likely now in the possession of the public? Thought came up when having my uniform fitting a couple of weeks ago. First hat I tried on was way too tight but then the next size up, though it fit, I tried shaking/wobbling my head and it didnt feel massively secure. I'm worried I will lose it when giving chase or scuffling!

You happen to be on school premesis and you notice someone who appears to be a parent visiting the school, innocuously holding a bunch of keys while chatting to a teacher. On the keyring you notice there is a small, red swiss army knife. What do you do? Is there an offence, if so, what?

You're on duty visiting a camping store, you spot a young lad buying a nice little red handled Swiss Army Knife. The lad is on his own and the shop assistant is selling it to him quite happily. Would you do anything? Also would you do anything if you happened across this item during a stop and search? (I'm aware of the law regarding this).

Hi there All, First time poster, long time listener! Am currently a training special and after a bit of advice. Was just curious as to whether it would be worth investing in a cheap digital camera for the purpose of car related crime (parking on double yellows, unsuitable vechical etc) The example I think best suits this question is a situation I saw on road wars or a similar program. The cops had pulled a bucket of a Van over that failed pretty much all the checks the officer did on the car (windscreen whipers, tire inflation, broken lights etc) but after the story had finished the driver was let off in court due to lack of evidence. Would a quick couple of photos b…
