This might be a little weird, but hear me out! You are on uniformed foot patrol in a city centre, you walk down a street full of bars and coffee shops on both sides of the road. As you pass one coffee house a MOP comes out and calls on you. You go over. They tell you that they and their group (of about 6 people in their early 20s) are distressed as they have just ordered coffee and for no reason they were called "obnoxious tossers" - excuse the language, just thought it would make it a little more realistic than annoying losers - by the waitress. You have a quick look in the window behind the MOP and see the group sitting at a table chatting, but looking a little con…

A MOP has a valid car tax disc displayed in the window of their car. Around the outside of the disc holder however is printed "Yes I've paid my car tax, now go find some real ######ing criminals" in red letters - large enough to read/notice walking by the car. Any offences?

Percy and his wife live in a little suburb and park their car in the street outside their house. Johnny, who is their daughter's former boyfriend and a local miscreant, has been hanging around and dropping the odd unwelcome comment or two as he passes by. On day 1 They both tell Johnny that they don't want trouble and suggest that he doesn't hang around their house and that he leaves their family alone. On day 2 Percy's wife notices that their car has been scratched on the off-side panels with keys or a screwdriver. They report this to the police and tell them that they suspect Johnny. The following week Percy takes the car to be repaired (cost £450). He decides…

Here's a quick one on behalf of a mate, I had a snoop at the Fruad Act 2006 and I think it fits, but not sure... Him and Her split up. He moves out. She finds out that he is taking out mobile phone contracts with various companies, in HIS NAME but with HER ADDRESS. Does that fit S2 of the Fraud Act 2006? Any other possible offences - Theft I'm thinking (getting the phones, but not paying for them)?

I know it sounds really OTT and if slightly unbelievale but it almost happened the other day and got me thinking... imagine if you will... Its a hot summers day, your driving down the road... windows down to let some fresh air in and cool you down. You enter a town, your focused on the road ahead but notice the car driving towards that the driver is smoking. As you drive past each other the driver carelessly throws out their cigerette and it lands into your car, on your lap and starts burning your clothes or bare legs (if your wearing shorts or skirt for example) you obviously look down and panic at this point, causing your attention to be diverted from the road. This t…

Two SC's patrolling (weeknight, weekend, whatever) and pass a busy local pub which is rumoured to have a lot of drink driving offences commited. Ie, people having a few bevvies after work and driving home, knowing they are over the limit. Passing the pub, you decide to hover in the area for a bit and you see somebody staggering to their car, clearly drunk. My questions are: 1) At which point exactly can you detain them for the offence, ie, is it the intent and the fact that they are heading to their car to drive home? Is it putting the key into the door, ignition? 2) If the SC's are the only two officers in the area at the time, what would be the best way to approach…

here's an incident that actually happened to me, i will give you the circs, then ask what you would do next through to conclusion. Feel free to ask questions and i will try to enlighten. It's around 3am on a cold winters night although dry, your driving around a small market town with NO railwaystation, and the prospects of taxi's pretty remote (although not impossible for the right price). You pass a bus stop, and notice a male (not dress the smartest) cradleing a toddler who is asleep in his arms, with another two sub 10yr olds runnig around the bench he has a couple of bags with him. What do you do next ?? Ask the questions, and i will answer to throw more light, th…

Scenario... You get a knock on your front door. On answering, your neighbour informs you that both his and your car tyres have just been slashed. A group of youths (13-16yrs) are seen calmly walking away laughing, one of which is openly toying with a knife. Whilst you rush inside to call the police, your neighbour has decided not to approach the youths for fear of being stabbed, but to mark them as suspects with a paint ball round, fired from his CO2 powered rifle. His thoughts are to "aid the police" by narrowing down the suspects. He claims that if he were to attempt a citizens arrest, no doubt he would either (due to the age group)? be charged with assault, or be…

A driver is driving from Wales to England. He's caused to stop a hundred yards over the border into England, by a male in police uniform standing at the side of the road. Upon slowing down to stop, the driver sees the high-visibility jacket this male is wearing says "HEDDLU" on it. The driver, not knowing what this means and thinking this male is not a police officer fails to stop and drives on. Any offences?

I was driving along the motorway this evening and I saw a car with blatantly dodgy numberplates. The car was about 15 years old, and had a German-style rear plate (I didn't see the front). When I say German-style, it was identical in lettering style (3d punch-out, vs UK printed ones)/font/layout to German ones and had an EU symbol/letter D to show it was German. The thing is, I know a German plate when I see one. The number is in the format AB * C1234 (Where the tax disc is stuck in place of the *). This one had the number in the UK format, i.e. A123 BCD. Also, the car was UK right-hand drive (not left-hand like in Europe). I figured if anyone had looked at that plate, t…
