This happened to me once but i'll add an extra bit and see what you think if the scenario went that way. I went a fancy dress party as a sheriff and as such had a set of kids metal hancuffs on my belt, whilst standing outside the club a police officer tells me to remove them from my belt as they are an offensive weapon. I explain they are kids cuffs and even if they were real handcuffs are not an offensive weapon, he continues to tell me to take them off so I comply to not cause a fuss and tell him i'm a member of the same force to which he just walks off. The extra bit is what if an off duty officer in the same situation had not done as he asked and the PC tried to re…

Hi all, Right, your driving home from somewhere on a night like this (if your in the Midlands you'll know what I mean ) and your driving past a large playing field that is adjacent to a main dual carriageway. Suddenly you hear a crash on your nearside front passenger door which startles you, you soon realise that some youths in the playing field have thrown a rather hard snowball at the side of your vehicle. You turn left and go past the park to observe the youths and gain a generalised description as best you can. Next... is it worth calling it in or not? DH

Ok I go for a run every night and I always take the same route. I have lived in the area all my life so I know the community pretty well, whilst on my route I always seem to pass a few cars down a country road. The cars are always occupied with the same group of youths who like to leave there windows open. When running past there is strong smell of Cannabis coming from the vehicles in question. This has been going for a few months now and I was wondering what the best course of action would be? I have thought of reporting it to the local police station however since the community is a small one and I am most likely the only person to use that route for running I don't wa…

I have tried searching for a definitive answer to the following question. I was witness to an assault whilst off duty and working in the capacity of my normal job. Tonight I am going to the local police station (in a different force from where I work as a Special) to give a witness statement. The job will probably go to court. Do I start my statement in the normal way (ie I am SCxxxx of xxx Constabulary) and make reference to the fact I was off duty? That way, I shall be a professional witness when the job does go to court. Or, shall I just do a normal witness statement like any other member of the public. Thank you in advance.

You are called to a report of a group of people in their late teens to mid twenties throwing snowballs at members of the public passing on a footpath. When you arrive you see a group of about 4 teenagers that appear to be having a confrontation with a man in his 40s. The man is shouting at the group, clearly irate. When he sees you, he comes over and tells you that as he was walking along the path a snowball landed near him, followed closely by another. The man said he shouted at the group telling them to 'pack it in'. As he continued to walk down the street another snowball landed at his feet. It was at this point he got angry and confronted the group, just prior to you…

This is a scenario and has not actually happened. Once again you work in an electronics store and a customer has bought a wall bracket for a 50" TV. You are stood at one of the tills which are situated at the end of the store. The customer walks past you with the wall bracket on his shoulder. As there is no sine of a receipt or even a bag attached to the box (store policy to attach bag to boxes that have been sold) you decided to just check the customers receipt. Before doing so you ask other members of staff if they have sold the product to the customer before asking the customer. The members of staff you have asked have not seen the customer before so you decide to go…

This is 100% theoretical situation but i was wondering what charges could, if any, a person could be charged with. You are leaving a bar/club after few drinks with co-workers on a friday night, you are walking round a corner and knock into a MOP compleatly by accident causing him to drop his cigarette onto the street. Through his body language and speech you can tell he is reasonably 'well oiled'. The MOP demands you replace his lost cigarette with another, you and non of your co-workers smoke so it is not possible to provide the MOP with a replacement. Upon hearing this fact he becomes agressive and starts to threaten you with violence, you tell the MOP to leave the iss…

You work in a business park and all the other offices in the park close at 5pm. You stay late(8pm) due to extra paperwork(Apologies for using the P word). When leaving the park, there's no-one around apart from you and you decide to disregard the red traffic light signal and continue on your way. It is safe to do so and there are no other cars are in the vacinity. What, If any legislations are being infringed? Peter.

A driver and pedestrian are involved in a minor accident the pedestrian is taken to hospital but the injuries are minor. When the driver is asked for their licence they do not have it with them, it is lost and they are applying for another one. A vehicle check brings back another name as the owner of the vehicle but the name given by driver is insured on the vehicle and a name check reveals the person does have a valid drivers licence. The driver however has no identification on them to prove who they are. Just to set the scene its during the day time returning home after shopping, driver is fully compliant, they called the police, are not under the influence and have two…

Dear Faithful PS.comers, One incident that is often a nuisance is young male individuals who ride noisy quad-bikes (ATVs) and motor scooters through city streets, beaches and other common public grounds, often without licence plates, and with little fear of reprisal by us lot, the "authorities". The only time when lots of quadders get busted is when a helicopter happens to be in the area so we can chase the little sods until they run out of petrol or oxygenated hemoglobin. As we are also a politically correct force fearing the wrath of tabloids should one of these "misguided youths" be inadvertently killed in a police chase, most of the time calling the police is an exer…

With Zavvi recently going into administration, the administrators have told Zavvi to no longer accept gift vouchers, what would you do in the following scenario... You are called to a Zavvi store by security who say they have detained a shoplifter. You arrive and find that the person detained had £20 of gift vouchers, but when they went to pay for their items (<£20) they were told they could not use their vouchers. The person then tried to leave the store with the items, and leaving the vouchers with the store. Could you nick them for shoplifting, or have they already paid for the items when they (or whoever) bought the gift vouchers? Or is this a civil matter and Z…
