I just want to clarify hypothetical scenarios. Dont ask me why i feel compelled to ask the question, its just been bugging me for a while. On duty Police can arrest On / Off duty Police? (I Think So) On duty Police can arrest Civillians. (Obviously) Off duty Police can arrest On / Off Duty Police? (Possibly?) Civillians can arrest On / Off Duty Police? (Im guessing no?) Civillians can arrest other Civillians? (I think its yes, but its strict) Obviously.. im not talking about people going around arresting eachother for no reason. I mean if someone had commited an offence that was seen by the Arresting person (E.G Assault).

You are attempting to arrest someone for a public order offence when their friend starts filming you on their mobile saying they will complain as they havnt done anything wrong, etc. While you are distracted the person you are arresting punches you in the face, it is obviouse this was captued on the mobile device his friend has! There is no other cctv in the area and your colleague was bringing your vehicle round to transport the arrested person so did not see the assault. What could you do, and what would you do?

You are on duty, friday night, city centre. You arrest a guy during the course of the evening for a Breach of the Peace (Scotland) or a Drunk and Disorderly (England) and as you are driving the guy back to the station, he starts threatening you with comments such as: "I will f*** you over mate" "If I see you on the street, you had better run" "I will kill you" You get the gist! You take no notice as he is drunk and you dont really care. However. While off duty the following week, you do a little shopping and as you leave one shop, you see this same guy there, but with a group of similiarly minded mates. He points at you and shouts "Thats the guy". 1) What do you…

Ok because you guys and girls are knowledgeable and assisted me in a previous scenario I had here is another that happened the other week. So I work in a High School all the staff know I am a special (how and why it came up in a staff meeting I don't know). We occasionally have the odd less-than-impressed parent come in to complain about something (usually their child is as good as gold so can't believe why they are in trouble). The other week a parent who was even less-than-impressed with the school came in and started shouting at the receptionist to "get that stupid headteacher of this school out here now". When the head came out the parent and the head had a major a…

In a fictional town called 'Urbantown' 4 of guys, myself included, decide to go out clubbing. All of us, bar one Special are MoPs. (All are above 18, under 21) We arrive at a few places, are not ID, but then come to bar. Outside, the bouncers ask us for our ID. We all pull out our Driving Liscences except for the Special. Who says he has no ID, but instead pulls out his Warrant Card. The Bouncers take the Warrant card, look at the rest of our IDs, and say 'Sorry mate 21+'. The Special has his Warrant card taken for some time, and when he tries to retrieve it, it almost kicks off, Luckily, the Special (Obviously pumped on Steroids and Protein) doesn't kick off, but…

Hello everyone, Please can one of you fine officers settle an argument for me? Where I live in this lovely little town recently on one of the main roads (a normal inner town cente residential 30mph road) has had some speed humps/bumps/cushions put down and it reduced from a 30mph zone to a 20mph zone. They are the one's that are a funny shape (Like a sort of big gold bar) which are supposed to be bus friendly? And who ever has laid them has put them so that if you drive inbetween the middle of them in a car you can not feel them, but it means that you are driving up the middle of the road. Now, if you stick to the 20 mph speed limit and move into the middle of the road…

Persons orders goods over the phone using a credit card and the sales assistant gets all relevant details from the caller. They then process the transaction and the card is not flagged up as lost or stolen. The assistant calls the person back to tell them there transaction has been sucessful and they can come and collect the goods from the store. This happens a few times over the space of a few weeks so not a one off. Weeks later you get told by the bank that the cardholder denies making any purchases and the bank refuse to pay the store. This is then reported to the police and they are aware that the named person has done this in a few stores what if any real offences …

Ok, so I think I know the correct answer to this but can anyone clarify please: I study martial arts, so therefore at certain times I carry weapons in my car (only to and from classes). Another guy at my classes carries his chinese broadsword with him all the time, but he also has seriously bad road rage. I have told him the implications of carrying the sword with him and about his road rage but. He has always said that if someone was to have an argument with him whilst on the road, he would "get out, get the sword and smash their car up", what I need to know is, what offenses will he get charged with if he were to do that, would it be one of criminal damage and anoth…

CWUN receive a call that 2 homeless people are camping in a public garden. Both are said to have overdosed on heroin and are in a "bad Way". On arrival at the public garden you find the campshite (one tent) is not in the public garden but over a fence. the fence is the edged of garden before a 1-2 meter strip of woodland that then gives way to a 75 foot sheer drop. The tent is a short way along this strip on a piece of land approximately 6 meters sqaure covered in trees. Its possible to climb over the fence and walk to this tent but you will be 1 meter from the edge of the cliff. You yell out but there is no answer. you throw a rock towards the tent and no one stir…

Hi folks, I was driving at 10 O'clock last night in the sub-division I want to work from when I noticed an offcier walking up the road towards the station. He was talking on a mobile although I'm guessing it was his multi-purpose radio (I know that's not the correct term). Slightly off topic but I've noticed 4 or 5 officers throughout Glasgow walking alone and talking on what looks like a mobile/radio placed to their ear. Is there a reason for this? (I know that's probably a daft question but it's something I've noticed recently). With regard to my original topic...let's say the officer I saw last night was approaching a group of say 5 or 6 youths (number unimportant re…

Hey been learning about my powers of arrest today and it got me thinking, we can arrest for an offence if it was necessary to prevent a person causing injury to themselves and they were drunk and disorderly for example, here you have the offence d&d and a necessity to arrest to protect them. Well my question is if we were to come across a drug addict who was high on heroin for example and you thought they were at risk of causing physical injury to themself (eg walking into the road and being run over) but they were not comitting an offence as such how would you deal with this. Just to emphasise the person is not causing a disturbance just stumbling about and you hones…

Here`s a (sort of) real world one : Fred is worried about the current economic situation. What offences are comitted if : 1.) He decides to store gallons of fuel in various containers in and arround his home, causing neighboughs to fear that the whole street will burn down. 2.) He decides to store fuel as above, but then begins to sell it on the side for a profit. 3.) He decides to store and sell the fuel as in 2, but it`s red diesel he`s storing / selling. The only thing I can think of for 1.) is possibly Causing a Public Nusance. Any better ideas ?
