I've been thinking about the unthinkable, what would you do if you were mugged/robbed in the street (god forbid)? Would you identify yourself as a police officer and arrest him? or would you just call it in?

Say i'm in a club with a few mates just having a little dance, and for no apparent reason someone else smashes my mate in the mouth with a pint glass right next to me, knocking out his tooth and then proceeds to leg it. What would be the appropriate thing to do if I were off duty with warrant card. P.S I ask as this did actually happen a while back and the guy who did it managed to get away.

Just a little tester to get people thinking............ You get called at 2330 hrs to a report of a female sat in a car playing loud music who appears to be in drink. The caller is upset as they are trying to get their baby to sleep. Upon your arrival the female is sat in the car in the drivers seat with the window down with music pumping out. She appears to be drunk and there is an open bottle of Vodka on the front passenger seat. She tells you her father has recently died and this is her way of being on her own to release. She states she has no intention at all of driving. The keys are on the front passenger seat and the vehicle is parked in a residents parking …

This is a real scenario that occured last night. I am after constructive criticism and advice from those that have dealt with the same scenario or similar. Please don't turn it into a slagging off match. I was returning from a training session and was in uniform (no equipment or hi viz) which was covered by my coat. Whilst driving along the motorway I witnessed lorries pulling into the hard shoulder with some speed which was unusual as 3 of them did it, then I saw a severely damaged car inbetween the lorries as I passed. I stopped in the hard shoulder myself about 200 metres away, secured my vehicle and ran to the scene of the RTA. The vehicle was not obstructing any of…

Ok heres a situation... Say we have a driver making their way home after a party in the early hours of the morning (1-2 am) (no drink involved) and then comes to a junction where by the lights on green and they carry on through, before they know it a police car rushes through with their lights on no sirens obviously. There is a collision and the MOP's car has had some pretty bad damage and the person is suffering from back pains. The police check the person over for drink driving and they are clear. The issues with damage to both vehicles is fixed as they both go half way on the claims. But what if the driver has back pains and problems months later since the acciden…

Leading on from the 'Stealing something that's free' thread,I thought that I would post this topic up. Similar, but different,if you see what I mean. So.....what's your take on taking something that's been thrown away or disposed of ?? (I have something very specific in mind, but on the above info, what do you think ?).

How does everyone deal with S165 and foreign registered vehicles? 1. I have read that S165 does apply to foreign registered vehicles. However with regards to Insurance and EU registered vehicles "Member states shall refrain from making checks on insurance against civil liability in respect of vehicles normally based in the territory of another Member state". So apparently we cannot seize, however there is apparently a caveat saying if the vehicle has stayed for more than 6 months it then becomes normally based over here in the UK so can be seized. The onus is on the driver to prove they have insurance, however with foreign cars it is a toughie as most may not carry …

What happens if you're sure a person has committed an offence but youre not sure exactly what the offence is when you go to caution them.

This was a call I went to last night. What would you do? Ill tell you what the result was after a few posts, would be interested in how others would deal with this one. Call to outside the nick...cabbie drops of a male and female who are "fighting". Female aged mid 30s is hysterical and crying and a little drunk, shows her wrist and theres a small scratch which she says male did whilst grabbing her. Claims she doesnt know who the male is and just got into the cab. Male aged 20..says he met the woman in a club and paid her £230 for her "companionship" and after giving her the money and getting in the cab she became hysterical...(wasn't given a receipt )

your on an SCT/SNP and a poor old lady is feedup with the next door throwing their fag ends over the wall into her small garden, what can you do?

I'm sure there's a simple answer to this one because I'm sure it's come up often enough. A prisoner being booked into custody. Custody officer asks "do you suffer from any illnesses or injuries?" "Yes; claustrophobia." With regard to putting claustrophobic people in cells, what's the deal there re human rights? Would the skipper be obliged to seek an alternative solution if one was available? Would there be other options? Let's assume for the purposes of this exercise that the prisoner isn't kicking off.

What would you do if, after searching an induvidual for whatever reason, you found them to be in posession of lots and lots of packets of over the counter (non perscription) medicine, say, sinutab? Would you action be different if they had receipts with them that accounted for all of the medicine - and therefore, the drugs are not stolen?

I was in front of a driver the other day and as i looked in my rear view mirror i could see he was on his phone (which i hate ) there was children around and his driving was appalling due to the fact he was using this mobile. As we got to some taffic lights i was thinking, would you get out and advise him that what he was doing was an offence and tell him your position or would you just let it slip or report it? any advice or opinions welcome as always

You are on a plane, on your way home after a nice long holiday abroad, obviuosly you are off duty and with your family. There is also a large group of lads sitting towards the rear of the plane who have been drinking, you are approx 30 mins from landing when the pilot comes on over the tannoy and announces there is a queue to land and so the plane will not be landing for another 20 minutes , feel free to look out the window as we circle round central london etc, etc! At this point the drunken males begin to shout abuse at the cabin crew, the situation begins to deteriate and one of the males get up and lunges himself at the plane door saying something along the lines of …

After reading a recent topic about a collegue in trouble it got me thinking what i would do in this situation even though i am not a police officer. If a Special Constable was out on mobile patrol late at night without a regular officer and a call came through of a regular on a routine stop had got in to trouble and needed urgent assistance what would you do?. Especially if they were no other units close enough to help out but you were only a few miles away and could only get there in time if you could use your blue light which i understand is illegal for specials.
