Here's the scenario, Your on foot patrol on the border of a very large pulic park. A lady appears and informs you that there are 10-15 youths sitting on the grass not far from her family picnic, 'acting drunk' and being rather boisterous. You approach the youths in question and see no bottles of alcohol present although several youths seem to be speech slurring and lacking sensibility. However you do discover several 1-2 litre bottles of what appears to be a coloured cordial hidden under some jackets and in rucksacks. You undo the top to smell the substance but have a distinct lack of 'reasonable' suspicion that it is alcohol - basically the smell of alcohol is not pres…

Hello all, This is my first post in this subforum, so I hope I'm going about it the right way! This isn't a real scenario, but based on something that I could see potentially happening in the future. I was out clubbing last night, completely sober. We had to queue for a long while and the street around the club was pretty packed. There were three or four rather large bouncers who were getting quite aggressive with a few people - they were pushing several people about quite a lot, which seemed pretty unjustified and perhaps crossed the line. So, two scenarios for you. Firstly, off duty. Imagine you were queuing for a club, completely sober. You'd been in the queue for …

Picture this... ...your walking along the street off duty, and a car pulls over with 4 teenage males in it...they ask you for directions and you briefly tell them where to go....then a male in the back asks a question quietly so you move closer and ask him to repeat it....then the front passenger squirts you in the face with blackcurrent juice, and you are soaked... ...Whats the next step??? (you have descriptions, car make model colour and reg....) NO WITNESSES, except one who immediatley left the scene and you dont have details... JY

OK a bit of a silly one, but after debating with work friends could not come up with an answer. A man has a car, lets say a Ford escort 1.6, the car brakes down and requires a new engine. So being mechanical minded trawls Ebay and finds a escort 1.6 for cheap. When he picks the car up it is in better condition than the one he has, so why change engine when he can just change car? However, he is a lazy man and as the car is the same colour and same model he changes the tax disc and plates. then drives the new car as the old one! His insurance would be the same, the car looks taxed. and any check on the plates would bring back Ford escort 1.6 in Red which is what he is dr…

What if your getting on a Tube lets say, and you catch someone with their hand in your pocket trying to pickpocket you? What would you do

Just watched that video of the officer losing his baton and getting hit with it, and it got me thinking: What is the offence ,if any, if someone took your baton or cuffs from your belt whilst you were out on foot and then either: - ran off with them? - dropped or threw them? - taunted you and made it difficult for you to get the item back, like used to happen in the playground at school? Thanks

Here's a new one (I hope) that's fairly specific to specials. Whilst on duty, you stop Andy, who is driving around an industrial estate late at night with a van full of brand new building supplies. You run a PNC check and discover that he's been arrested many times for breaking into builders' yards, but never convicted. An old hand chimes in and tells you that on every occasion Andy's expert lawyer has got him off the hook on technicalities. On this occasion everything is in order, so you let him on his way. The next day you turn up for work in your role as HR assistant at a local builders' merchants. With your boss, you're interviewing candidates for a job in stock…

You receive a call from a member of the public who has just seen a male entering the female public toilet (or vice versa.) You respond to make sure nothing untoward is occurring, thinking that it is possible he has gone in to the wrong one by accident and will have left by the time you arrive. However, you enter the female toilet (or your female colleague in an ideal situation) and find the male in one of the cubicles (he's not using the facilities, he's just sitting there.) Where do you go from here? Assuming you follow up with a search, he has nothing on him - where do you go from now? Let's say his account for his presence is "just resting." This is based on a tr…

Me and my friend was having a chat today in school, like you do. We was having a laugh and a joke, and we came up with the question: If you was to be knocked down by a car, and you ended up on the bonet, and you got up, quite hard and smashed the windscreen, or did more damage getting off the car, would you get charged for criminal damage, or not? Before sombody says it happend to me and a I want to know, they are wrong. We was just talking about people who have been knocked down at our school. :D Just to put our minds at rest Thanks, Owen.

Is there a law that is broken when an overexcited fan gains access to the stage to dance around and have fun (i.e. no attempt at touching performer etc)? Also, is this the same at football matches? I know Police are rarely inside grounds now and it is left to stewards to deal with pitch invaders, but I remember days of old when you'd see a bobby running after a slippery naked man. What powers were they using to 'apprehend' the gent? Cheers

Possibly the most exciting part of being a police officer...but say you're guarding a crime scene on the outer cordon and someone wants to cut through otherwise "they have to walk all the way round". You apologise, and then they blatantly just step under the cordon and proceed to walk across. Would you be able to use reasonable force under s3, any offences commited? What if the cordon wasn't for a crime scene, say maybe you'd blocked off the road due to an RTA, a suspicious package etc

Sat night town centre. Bouncers call you over to a disturbance just as it's kicking off. You get there to find a man having been ejected from the bar for smacking a woman across the face (lets call him baldy). He's outside the bar, but not leaving. Before you have chance to assess the situation, boyfriend and father charge at baldy, and you are your colleage have to seperate them to keep all in order. At this point you are speaking with baldy, who has a bloody nose, a cut to the cheek and blood on his shirt. He is crying but very cooperative. Your colleage however is now dealing with boyfriend, father, 2 loud mouthed friends and a large crowd of others, all screaming at…

You come back from responding to a call on a busy street. You find a man sat on the roof of your police car. Immediately a crowd gathers and starts to film the situation with their camera phones. You immediately ask him to get off the roof. He ignores you and acts up to the crowd. The minutes pass and no progress, 5, 6, 7 minutes and you're still standing there and he's refusing to get off. How do you get someone off the roof of your car? Obviously you could go on and push him off, but you're in a busy road and he may get injured. Interesting one and happened for real too: PS. Apologies if this was posted before, I couldn't really work out what to search for to fi…

Folks You nick a chap - classic Section5 POA. You end up driving him to custody in the Police van. En route to Custody as your colleage is driving the van and you are sat in the back with the DP in the cage, the DP starts firing a load of racist abuse at you - for the remainder of the journey. Language such as 'Irish ****' and just continues to do so - no threats, just blatent racist abuse for minutes on end. What is the offence - if this was done in earshot of the public, easy - Sec 4 POA, racially aggravated. However, no MOPs around and not in a public place. So what is the offence? Ta

I saw this on Traffic cops I believe about a few weeks ago. Basically, a 'boy racer' - car and driver was legit - had been caught by the police driving unresponsably (probably some tyre burns and drifting, the lark). He got cautioned and sent on his way. Then, a number of weeks later, acting on a statement given by a MoP (the statement was that the driver, or atleast the car, had driven towards the member of public as if to run them over, or atleast threaten them) the police tracked the car down and seized it. It was parked up in a known 'boy racer' site and there was no resistance. As the car was being seized, the driver had a fair point in asking for evidence to be p…
