So I was in KFC the other day, minding my own business - when two youths who couldn't have been more than 15 came in to order their meal. I couldn't believe the stuff that was coming out of their mouths, nor the volume of it. I was literally left gobsmacked, i'd never heard such a vile pair of teenage girls in my life - and that is definitely saying something. I could see the staff behind the counter were getting quite disturbed by the situation, as well as the other customers and families surrounding. What would have been the correct thing to do? I know of the rule of not outing yourself as an officer, but they would definately not listen to a MoP, and I think everyon…

You get called to a McDonalds car park at around 18.00 hours and it is quite busy and it is light. You get called there because there is a report that 3 10-12 year old lads are waving what is believed to be a firearm around. You are first on scene and instantly see the 3 lads matching the description and cautiously go over and carry out a Sec47(3) firearms act search. You locate a black toy hand gun but it cant fire any pellets and cant be easily converted into a firing gun what if any offences do you have for this three lads????

i was overhearing the other day in my forces muster room that they had pulled over a guy who had his phone under his seatbelt near his shoulder. he claimed he couldn't afford a hands free kit and so put his phone on speaker and placed it under his belt. he claimed it broke no law as he wasn't holding the phone, but i was wondering what other people thought. i never heard if he was reported for anything as we got a shout to go to, but i was just wondering if he had committed an offence. any thoughts?

I have neighbours over the back of my house who have a particular seasonal routine. The minute summer comes around they spend every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night partying in the garden until 3 or 4 in the morning. This includes karaoke on a loud PA system, fireworks and fires. What can be done about them from a legal stand point ( as a civy ) as my requests to cool it after 24:00 hours simply fall on deaf and slightly drunk ears. Cheers, Ste

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but say you witnessed a crime off duty like someone shoplifting, would you approach them, show them your warrant card and make a citizens arrest? Or is it better to just report it to shop staff like a 'normal' citizen would and stay out of it?

If you were a terrorist post 9/11 watching what happens near somalia with tankers getting stolen left right and centre wouldn't you conclude that nicking one of these would be the easiest way to get your hands on something heavy to ram into a city? I'm not saying it's time to panic just thinking it's kinda bleedin obvious.

You are on foot patrol by yourself, or you are off duty....you witness a drug deal where one man hands a small quantity of drugs to another very quickly and they immediately walk in opposite directions. Which one do you follow? Which one do you stop and search? Obviously you'd circulate the other's description, but only the one you are following are you guaranteed to catch.... dealing is the more serious offence, but he might not have anything on him when you stop him. However, you know that the "receiver" definitely has something on him...

There's a similar(esque) thread, but it's about five years old, and I'm curious, since I do travel a fair bit... I've been in this situation before, fortunately the Cabin Crew managed to subdew the passangers concerned before it turned violent, but it's good to know what you can and can't do should the occasion arise. An (obviously) off duty Police Constable is travelling from England to America. All is well on boarding the craft, a couple of rowdy passangers, but when aren't there? A few hours into the flight an argument breaks out, fueled by alcohol and/or narcotics and any attempts from the Cabin Crew to calm the situation promtly fails, and the situation escelates …

Hello all Something that has come to my mind. You are walking down the street, and you see one of your colleagues (any member of the police force, not just a special). They are walking down the street and all of a sudden a large amount of youths come up and start assaulting him (not just punches, the whole works). What do you do? Understandably the officer can if he can alert Comms and you can put a 999 call in. But this is where my question is, he recognises you. Do you go and help your colleague, as your off duty and not working. Understandably you probably would as you want to go and get the adrenaline rush sort it out, but where does the insurance lie in the CNR you'…

So here's the scenario; You are having a night out with some old friends in a different city/town to what your local is, and your party is getting merry. Your old friend has some bother from a small group of lads he doesn't know, who then proceed to lay a punch to him on the street. The punch connects and your friend goes down. You step in between the both and the aggressor goes to swing at you, you manage to dodge the punch and push the aggressor back, the local police turn up and cuff the aggressor and yourself also. What would you do as an off duty constable? Would you try and reason with the local officers and explain what happened whilst your being detained/place i…

I recently bought a second hand bike to take me to and back from work without having to pay money to get there. I originally had a new bike which got stolen (Which is why i went for a second hand one). This sounds like a very paranoid couple of a questions! Anyway, my question is: How can i find out about the bikes past history? I don't actually know if the bike had been stolen or it is indeed second hand and legitimate, iv just taken the assumption that it is okay. And Secondly, How do i find the details of the carboot owner (Assuming it was a one off sale, and the guy never comes back), is there a list anywhere? Will it have a record of his numberplate and name?

I was stopped about 3 years back (orange means go faster and it had barely turned red , there was a good view of the pavement which was about 10ft wide either side so I knew nothing was coming) and in me car was a load of martial arts stuff as I was on my way back from a lesson. 2 bo staffs in the car on view (too big to hide) 2 * 3ft sabres in the boot in zipped up bags 1 light alloy and 1 combat grade steel. Boxing gloves/wraps/etc Couple of books on the style I'm learning. The officer was very sensible and could see that I had reason to be carrying the sabres in my vehicle from the clothes I was wearing and the other stuff in the car so nothing happened apart fro…

This is a real situation I came across the other day at Earls Court underground station while waiting for a train on the platform. Someone had clearly gained access to the station/platform public address system and proceeded to inform passengers that all trains were cancelled, etc. As I looked around, I saw a member of station staff move quite quickly down the platform. I turned and saw he was heading towards two young males who had accessed the PA system through one of the boxes on the wall. As the station staff member approached them, they jumped on to the tube train. What, if any, offence has been committed?

One of my colleagues (a particularly attractive girl in her early 20's) was today stopped in a large, well known department store and accused of shoplifting some jewelry. She was taken into a holding room by two male security guards who then frisked her (the full works, not just a "please turn out your pockets, Madam"). They found nothing on her, and half an hour later (after having reviewed the CCTV) decided they'd stopped the wrong person, apologised, and let her go. They asked permission before they searched her and she, frightened, agreed to it. The police weren't called, and neither was any one else in the shop alerted. Other than the two male guards, noone else was…

I've recently witnessed a Domestic Disturbance in my street a few days ago, i live in a friendly quiet street (or so i thought) now before the police turned up with 4 panda cars there was nobody their to difuse the situation My question is would you intervene even tho you live that in street? I was thinking to myself the other day that if i did'nt help and something happened i would feel guilty, but if i did intervene i would be at risk of people knowing i'm an officer and they would know where i live? Any advice?
