Lets say you are an off duty officer and have gone out for a few drinks with friends. You are walking down the street when suddenly and for no apparent reason someone attacks you is this assaulting a police officer or common assault as you will not be in uniform???

Sorry I didn't really know where to put this - but if on a programme like Traffic Cops or Road Wars, if someone fails to stop for police, and then further into the persuit they ram a police vehicle, surely that's something like criminal damage, if not another offence? Because at the end all it seems to be is something like 'The driver in the persuit was charged with fail to stop' and why not criminal damage, for instance? Just a thought, Sam

I've just had a Child Protection training session at the 6th form college I work at - now as part of the lecture they went through some laws and guidance given in relation to education staff using force (I can't remember all of them but I know one of them was Section 93 Education & Inspections Act 2006. Now, afterwards, both me and someone I work with were wondering if for me as a police officer, were I to get involved with some form of incident whilst at work, would the education staff rules apply or would I work to Section 3 Criminal Law Act 1967? I think it would depend on whether I identified myself as a police officer. On an aside I also noted that any subsequen…

Lets say there was a road rage incident. Aggressive person A exits their vehicle and tries to attack person B (victim). Before it kicks off, or during, the victim manages to open his car boot, where there is a sports bag. Inside the sports bag there is various equipment relating to martial arts / self defence, such as groin boxes, gloves, head guard etc, and an escrima stick (view one here). The victim takes the escrima stick and acts in self defence, taking down the aggressive person A with the stick. When questioned by the police about the incident, the victim says they train once a week in self defence (or martial arts) at a local gym, and between sessions keeps all t…

What if... a dual carriageway was fairly busy with traffic at a constant speed of around 50 mph. There was a 50cc bike in the outside lane keeping up fine with traffic with a people carrier close behind. The lights turn red and they both come to a smooth stop. The bike driver notices the people carrier driver signaling for him to move into the left-hand lane, there was a space to do so. The bike drives refused to as there was no reason to do so, the people carrier driver then showed a wallet and continued for the biker to move over in a waving motion. The two lanes changed into single file just after the lights when the people carrier driver overtook the bike at spe…

Suppose that there is a scaffold yard in a small village that is used in the daytime but left unattended between the hours of 6PM and 8AM. The owners have 2 dogs which they claim are there to protect the premises! The local residents have complained to the local council that the dogs howl all night. The dogs are causing a disturbance and the council are looking into it as an Enviromental Health / Noise issue and have advised the owner on how to stop the dogs barking / howling. As the owner has claimed to the council that the dogs are guard dogs and that the dogs are left unattended, is this a Section 1, Guards Dog Act 1975 or a Council issue? There is no dwelling attach…

If you're off duty and walking along the street and someone was on their mobile phone, in a car, waiting in traffic. What would you do? Leave them? Make a mind note? 'Flash the badge'? Note: Clarification of in a car and grammar

Part of the condition of being a police officer is that you follow all lawful orders, my question to you is, what if (for arguments sake) two inspectors gave you orders which were contradictory. Which would you follow, again just to make it interesting you are unable to radio a higher ranking officer for clarification.

Quite a simple one really but just am slightly curious! You are on duty and decide to have a chat with a young lad who just seems to be hanging around for example. You have not seem him do anything or no reports have been made, you just decide that you are going to have a chat with him as he seems slightly suspicios. You are talking to him when all of a sudden he's off and has made off down the road. You make after him, obviously suspecting he is hidding something and you later pounce down the road and take him down. You search him and he has nothing, it was just an idiot wanting abit of a chase. What do you do? Is this still arrestable or just some harsh words? I must…

I was servicing a boiler today in one of my bosses rented houses. As I removed the cover of the boiler I found a home made bong. I have not started my specials training yet, but did bring up an interesting question, What do you do with crime when at your day job?. what would you have done with this bong? some background information. The home is rented by my bosses sister in law. She has five children, two are older boys of 15 and 17. I quietly spoke to her about what I had found, Would you have taken it further?

Scenario - you and your partner are at home, just having a night in. The pair of you start laughing loudly and generally having good banter between yourselves. A neighbour overhears this and thinks you are argueing. Neighbour calls 999. Officers attend on the belief this is just another domestic. Force policy dictiates that positive action must be taken at all domestics (arrest a/both parties or seperate parties for the evening). You both try to explain that all is in order. The Officer is unconvinced of your story as the neighbour is adiment that loud shouting was coming from your house. Question: As the home owner, what do you do when the Officer starts to impl…

You see someone put something in their pocket and walk out a store, you stop the to find it was a bottle of aftershave. However the bottle is one of those free tester ones that are kept on the shelves so people can try before they buy, the person explains to you they thought they could take it as they wanted to take it home to see what their partener thought of it! Do you deal with this the same as any other shoplifting, or does the fact the item is offered free to people in store make any difference.

You see a car with L plates and 2 occupants. The passenger is holding a mobile telephone to their ear, do you: A: Stop the car and give words of advice B: Stop the car and issue an EFPN C: Ignore it (Given that if you do choose A or B, the driver is a learner and there are no other defects or issues.)
