OK. This is unfortunately based on real circumstances... which I have to say I was not involved in at the time. If you were at a wedding reception (so therefore off duty), and a friend of a friend was in attendance and you knew he had a social drug habit, and you were pretty sure he was carrying class A substances at the time. What actions would you take? a) would you search / arrest him? b) would you just have a quiet word and have him hand them over for disposal? c) would you do nothing? He attended a friend's wedding reception last month and ended up in A&E after taking drugs (and ruined the reception). Unfortunately it is unlikely I can just refuse to invite…

Mary and John are both elderly and have lived together in their house for the past 5 years. John has been terminally ill for the past 6 months and finally passes away whilst taking a bath. Johns doctor who has been caring for him and only saw him the day before attends and issues a death certificate. The undertakers are called and John is then transported to the chapel of rest at the local hospital. Due to John passing away in the bath his body is unclothed and has no jewelery on. Arriving at the chapel of rest the undertakers park the private ambulance containing John's body outside and go in to check there is room and prepare the paperwork before bringing John's body in…

While dealing with an incident, you are a bit distracted and don't notice that someone has come up to you. They press the magic button on your CS canister, which is on your belt, and a small amount of CS is discharged. For arguments sake the person doesn't use force against you. I can think of 2-3 offences but what would you be locking up for?

Whether this comes under shoplifting/theft or anything else, or nothing at all! Scenario; John buys; 2 bottles of Coke at £1 each. A mars bar at £0.50 A pack of chewing gum at £0.30 Total: £2.80 John has checked carefully, there are no deals or any discounts he is entitled to. He goes to the checkout and is charged £2.30. He pays and leaves the store. On the receipt he has only been charged for the coke and chewing gum, he presented the Mars bar at the checkout and the till assistant was the one who put it in the bag. My question is... Has John done anything wrong? A) John noticed the Mars bar wasn't scanned and was simply placed in the bag, before paying…

Ok so you go out with some friends and loved ones to some kind of display at a park, there is lots of people present and when you come in you see a group of men and women with a baby and just near them there is man who is behaving very strange he looks about 40 is doing aeroplane noises and has his hands stretched out like one. You decide to stand watch from a distance as this strikes you as odd. You see the man walk in an odd manor over to the group and start getting in the face of one of the guys and he keeps leaning down and what seems to be talking to the baby and flapping his arms about. At this point the group are still laughing at him maybe they think its a joke???…

You are driving down a road in a marked police van when you come to a junction with traffic lights and in front is a new learner driver having a lesson. You easily observe that as you are approaching the junction the traffic lights are showing red and people are stopped. The learner driver is at the front of the queue and you stop in the line and after around a minute the learner driver pulls off with the light still showing red. You follow and pull the driver and he tells you its his 5th lesson and the instructor told him it was safe to go. Who gets issued with what if anything??????

Moving on from this thread: http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index....=100124&hl= You get called to a park where parents are complaining that a "dodgy looking" fellow is sitting watching the kids. When you see him you recognise him as a local paedophile that was released from prison a while back. He has no specific bail conditions &c. that he is breaking.....he's not actually in the swing park but about 50m away. What do you do?

I was wondering, is there any kind of offence of displaying learner plates on your vehicle after you have passed your test? I see lots of people who have quite clearly been of legal driving age for many years, driving alone but still displaying L plates. What laws/legislation would apply?

You are patrolling your local beat and decide to drop into a youth club which is on your patch. You go in and see several children aged about 11 or 12 crowded around one of the youth workers you recognise as Anna. As you get closer you see that Anna is showing the children a small plastic bag containing white powder. She is explaining to them that it is Cocaine and giving advice on how to identify it from its appearance as well as its health risks. You take Anna aside and put her under caution. She explains that she had found the bag in her sons bedroom when she was cleaning. In an effort to keep her son out of trouble and to make sure he did not take the drug she took p…

i was on the bus this morning going to college when a car pulled up behind. in the car the driver was speaking on her mobile phone. obviously this is an offence but if you were in my situation what would you do? i have completed my application for a special and i start on 16th nov so if this situation was to have happened when i am a special what should i do if anything? whilst sat on the bus i jotted down the reg plate but what use would that be to anybody as chances are she will deny using the phone and it is probably going to be quite difficult for her to be caught by sombody on duty. it just interested me as there was little i could do today, if i called it in she…

You're on B&T going to an incident/assisting colleagues, when the call for you to attend is cancelled, and you are stood down. Just as this happens, you are overtaking a long line of vehicles, and you've got to come off B&T (well trained driver is). Would you simply carry on to the call just in case, would you carry on and pull in up the road and stop, or would you just turn off B&T and pull in as and when you could? I know of a station officer in the fire service who had this near to a roundabout when he got stood down, and he simply carried on to the roundabout and turned back to base as there was nowhere to pull in and stop, which may have looked strange…

As a Special in training I had a scenario happen to me last week and wondered what Regs/Specials would do given the same situation. It goes as follows:- I'm stood next to my car outside my friends house. The house is situated in a cul de sac and is very quiet with normally numerous children playing but not on this occasion. At approx 6.30 pm an Astra driver comes speeding and wheel spinning down the street and notices me shaking my head. He then reverses the car and asks my friend what the problem is. As my friend says 'What?' he then decides to wheel spin off again in an obvious show of insolence. As much as I'd have loved to drag him out of the car and explain in…

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but I'm new and still trying to get around the basic stuff, let alone try and remember all my training when I'm out on the streets! Basically, does a constable in uniform have the power to stop a person on the street, as they would a vehicle or bike? I seem to remember someone talking about this in training, and saying we did, but I can't see how that'd work... and I can't find anything in any of my notes! If I haven't explained it clearly, imagine a scenario - you're out in uniform on the street in a busy area leafleting about an incident that happened a few weeks before. You're stopping people to have a brief chat to find …

Say you're out on patrol in a marked car, and as you are driving along you spot an ambulance passenger transport vehicle, without blue lights fitted, or a St. John Ambulance vehicle driving in the bus lane. Would you simply drive on and ignore as the passenger vehicle is classified as a bus, or the St. John Ambulance is exempted, or would you stop the vehicle for not being a permitted vehicle to use the bus lane?
