Interesting thought here - or it was for me - Comes from watching Jonathan Creek. Lady takes her own life by taking an overdose. However a household servant has already made up his mind to murder her. He enters her room, not realising she is dead, and shoots her. Has he committed murder? If not what offence can he be convicted of, if any?

If you're an SC and get qualified: response driver or PSU for example, and then become regular, are those qualifications transferrable too (assuming SC to PC in the same force)? Not force specific, just curious to see whether they are or not?

You are walking home alone one night, quite intoxicated after a night out with friends with your end of night kebab, and you look over the road to find a young male urinating over the Cenotaph and wreaths places near to the ground. What you you personally do? For me, this is one of my biggest grudges and i would be over there without thought to myself or PPE etc to mak sure the person gets the punishment he deserves. It's just the way i am. But what would you do in the circumstances? If you were to think to ring 999 and report the incident and the person in question finishes up and walks off before units arrive, what would you do then?

You are sitting in a cafe with a group of friends, and just happen to notice 2 males on the other side in the window in balaclavas, dark clothing and gloves, who looked into a meeting room window further down, then turn around and walk past again. What do you do?

Hi guys hope you are all well, I am still in training at the moment and pass out in Feb. Could I just have some thoughts on the scenario below as I experience it at least twice a week. I am on a heading home on the bus after a hard day’s work. a youth get on the bus and touches in with his Oyster Card the bus driver stop him just before he moves down the bus and asks the youth to see the oyster card as he believed the photo on the oyster card was cut out and replaced by a photo of the youth. (School kids have photo Oyster). The youth refuses to hand it over and refuses to get off the bus for 10 minutes, within these 10 minutes other commuters start ranting and raving …

John and Dave have had long friendship which has come a little volatile the last few years due to Dave's martial and family problems. Dave turned to drink and drugs and eventually 'lost it' (so to speak). Dave convinced himself that John had done serious harm to his life and happened to spot John on a busy street outside a pub on a Saturday afternoon. Dave shouted across the street "John, i'm going to kill you", and ran across the road towards John. Whilst approaching John, Dave pulled a knife out of his jacket and held it in way that John feared he was about to be stabbed. Approaching John, Dave lunged at with the knife, but John gripped an unsuspecting passer by and pu…

Hi All. You give somebody a lift, park in the carpark and they open their car door so that it hits the car next to you. The other car's owner wants the area to be repaired. Who's responsibility is it, yours as the owner or the passenger's? Would it make a difference if the passenger was in a taxi/private hire? Ben

This happened to my friend on Saturday night, I start the Specials in Jan. We was out in the City at around 01:00am one of my friends had breathing problems so the ambulance arrives and deals with him as I talk to the paramedics, as this was happening some male walked by my other mate who was talking to other friends and punched him in the side of the head for no reason (I did not see this) and police didn't either who were across the road. As a special what would you have done if you saw the male punch your friend? Police were called over but never gave chase.

This is more a "what would you have done?" A driver is stopped at traffic lights on information recieved that he had been drinking. He was breath tested and tested positive. His keys were siezed from him and he was arrested and taken away. The drivers car was taken away to the police station car park awaiting his collection as where he was stopped was a hazardous junction. Consequently on informing the Sergeant of the car we were met with I wish you had not as it causes all sorts of problems. Firstly the keys then had to be booked in to property and the liability was with the police. We thought under the safety aspect it was the wisest course of action. What would …

I watched a show on BBC Three last week called "Don't Get Screwed", where they stage scenarios depriving various people of their consumer rights or putting them in awkward positions to see if they know their rights and if they'll stand up for them. They then proceed to explain your rights and sometimes offer suggestions. I guess it's a bit like The Real Hustle but showing you your consumer rights. One of the situations got me thinking of a scenario, so here goes: The customer (B) purchased an ipod from an electronics retailer for £17.50 due to a pricing error. B paid the £17.50 by credit card and left the shop. Due to the tag not being removed he was stopped at the do…

I recently came across this video on YouTube. Ex police officers in the US went into police stations with hidden cameras asking the simple question "How do I make a complaint against the police?". The results are quite alarming. How would officers in the UK deal with such a request and would they be mindful that their reactions might be recorded?

You are on foot patrol when you are approached by a person who is worried about the behaviour of a male who is sitting on a bus. The bus is stopped, and you board the bus. On questioning the witness on why they are worried about the behaviour of the male they reply "Well, he just looks Muslim and he's got a rucksack, you know." Further conversation reveals the male has done nothing but sit on the back seat for the duration of the journey. There is no s44 authority in place in the area. The bus is a confined space, and other passengers have overheard the discussion and are now demanding that he be removed because "he's probably one of those terrorists like." What wou…

Would there be any offences if you were to dispose of something in someone elses bin that had been put out for the weekly/byweekly collection? The bin is not on private property.
