Hi, for any reason you stop and search a person and you find a small bag with a white powder that you suspect being a class A drug. He say that he don't know what it is. You ask for his details and he give replay without problem. Under these circumstances how can you justify an arrest? Are there any differance if it was a class B drug (cannabis)? regards

hi all your driving into a supermarket car park (off duty) and see a security guard in pursuit of a possible shoplifter.... what do you do ? get out and help chase him or let the security guard chase / deal with the situation ? also would you call 999 or again, let the store security deal with the whole matter? obviously you wouldn't know exactly what the guy running away had done at this point so would that affect your decision making? regards all

I carry my warrant card with me as instructed, while off duty. I walk my German Shepherd who is not a police dog and I am not a dog handler. He is a domesticated pet. For exploring time I walk him on a long lead, 10 metres, funnily enough looks a lot like a police dog handler's tracking lead. If it's mucky out I wear my magnums. This creating a good visual? Anyway, suppose I came across a robbery. I have a legal obligation to act and being a robbery I would look to detain the offender, assuming no obvious weapon (THIS ISN'T A DEBATE ON OFFICER SAFETY, I AM GOING TO ACT). I will be announcing I am a police officer and I will of course have my dog with me. I will be sh…

Out of curiosity any one dealt with the terrible disability of torettes? I was in a clothing store packed to the brim, saw a customer at customer services queue, very busy wishing to exchange a product as faulty, as soon as the staff asked for the receipt "well all hell broke loose" he was blatant trying to compose himself, to make things worse the young girl at the cash desk hit the panic attack button to which 3 security guards piled him to the ground" i was in complete shock, he was pulled off into the security room, expressing himself as a person does with this illness. As anyone come across this situation before and would it be B.O,P or sec 5? even if with Ts Than…

The Learning the Lessons Committee is a multi-agency committee established to disseminate and promote learning across the police service. Its members are: ACPO, APA, Home Office, IPCC, HMIC and the NPIA. The Committee produces bulletins with articles containing lessons from investigations. The '999' Call A man called 999 anonymously to report a man’s body hanging from a tree behind a supermarket and gave the name of a nearby road. In fact, he was planning to hang himself. There were two outlets of the supermarket near the road the man had given; the one he meant was next to a wood. A local beat officer agreed to look for the body; however she did not read the log …

Does anybody know what PND is used when ticketing for urinating in a public place. It would also be of benefit if somebody could inform me what the offence wording, legislation and PND offence code is. I am quite hopeless with PND's and have never issued one which to me is something of a weakness so all the help I can get is welcome. Cheers

Ok this scenario may sound far fetched to some, but when you life in a rural/coastal small area like myself, it becomes a very real situation. Where i'm from everybody knows everybody etc... So what would you do in this situation: Your partners ex is a bit of an idiot, a jealous idiot at that. Hes previously been arrested for criminal damage to your car because of the jealousy issues. Now you've become a special. Well this idiot is the usual; mouthing off, making a scene, bit of criminal damage etc... Plenty of opportunities to arrest him; section 5 P O A, Breach of the peace, criminal damage etc etc.... Would you? In my view at the end of the day, hes still breaking t…

Whilst travelling around the M25 this morning on the bike being passed by loads of cars even though I was doing about 75mph I was wondering about the gantree speed cameras. If you get caught by one you will probably get an FPN through the post and 3pts on your licence, OK. But what if you don't slow down and then get caught by the next gantree camera, do you get a second FPN and points? Or would it be counted as the same incident of speeding but further along the road? If the same incident, how many could you collect before you started a new incident? Could you take a trip around the M25 and walk away with 40+ points on your licence in a morning?

You are on uniformed patrol in a marked vehicle and you are authorised to stop vehicles using the vehicle's emergency equipment. Your attention is drawn to a vehicle which is seemly being driven erratically. You activate the blue lights and the vehicle pulls over and you find that along with the driver is a front seat passenger. You obtain the driver's details and require a breath test which is negative (you do not suspect drugs). You request a PNC check and a driving licence check and are told that the driver is "disqualified until test passed". The driver is in possession of a provisional driving licence and the front seat passenger is a full licence holder (for over 3…

On duty, and a mother sees you and comes out of her house and says that she thinks her child is taking cannabis. She was anti-drugs big time. She then asks if you can search his room, you search and find some cannabis wraps. What are you suppose to do and is that lawful? I'm not sure... I think as the mother is the premises owner its lawful and all that would be done on finding the drugs would be a seizure and disposal, possibly some intelligence filed against the person. This is what we almost had to deal with last night, but was then called to a grade 1, so couldn't. Just curious to see if it would of been ok.

No. not some bizzare fetish. I saw a programme on BBC3 the other night where a young lady squat down outside a nightclub and urinated, through her knickers, on the floor outside. How would you deal with this? The same as a guy urinating in the street?

Is there a policy on where the escort vehicle should be whilst escorting a wide load? ie behind the vehicle on a dual carriageway, and in front on a single? Also, if they were to run parallel to the wide load for the last half mile of a dual carriageway before it goes to single, would this be a case of obstruction, or just them being a pain in the rear?

Say you were chasing someone on a serious crime... Say a suspected rape and you are losing the chase down a very straight road with no alleys. If a MOP turns up and offers you a lift to catch up further down the road would you take up the offer??

You are called to an incident where a male is report to be swearing outside a restaurant. On arrival at scene you are met by 1/2 dozen disgruntled people (including the RP) stating there is a drunken man using foul language in the doorway of the said restaurant and "needs to be locked up". You approach the male who is with a very well dressed male and female in their 50s who identify themselves as his parents. They are stone sober and are very apologetic stating their son has tourettes. They state they have been dining at the restaurant that evening without incident but their son suddenly had and attack (if that's the right terminology) and shouting offensive words whils…
