You are on patrol in the early hours of a Monday morning when you see a gent aged about 60ish walking along the street. He's not obviously drunk, distressed, etc but you decide to stop and have a quick chat to check he's all okay. Upon speaking to him you ask him that isn't it a little late to be out. His response is that he has been going around the local area and removing various different adverts from traffic lights, lamp posts, benches, etc which are advertising club nights, events, etc. When you asking him why he says because they are unsightly and he see's it as littering. When you ask him how he is removing them, he says he is cutting the cable ties with a stanley…

Thought about this whilst in the freezer aisle today (lol)... So you pick something up in the freezer aisle in a supermarket, lets say a tub of ice-cream. Whilst walking round the shop you decide that you no longer want the item and instead of taking in back to the freezer you just put it on a normal shelf. As a result the ice cream melts and is unsaleable. Offences?...

Ok here it goes - it's 2am in the morning, a car is pulled over, the male driver blows a positive result on the roadside breath test kit. He is arrested, custody cleared - his female passenger on realising that she is no longer getting a lift home starts to give the officers some aggro. She goes on to state that she is a trainee solicitor and that the officers have a duty of care towards her, and have to ensure that she gets home safely. Now, my question is - do we have a duty of care towards her? To develop this further, on realising that the officers are not going to give her a lift home she states that she is having chest pains and requests an ambo, which is ca…

Your on duty at 23.00 and venture to a well know off road beauty spot, you come across a steamed up car, as you approach a male falls out of the drivers door and a female is inside, you have a chat and the lad claims that the driver of the car went for a walk and they are waiting for him to come back, the engine is cold. You check the male and female out nether have a licence, the car has no insurance and there is no current owner, the lad comes from a town 40 miles away and the last registered owner comes from the same town which is well out of your force area. The lad states that although he was not driving it he admits that the car is used by anyone that wants to use…

In each scenario, the pavement is a non-cycle lane pavement. a) A lone cyclist is hammering along a pavement. He is swerving to avoid pedestrians or otherwise shouting at them that he is coming. One pedestrian – for whatever reason, either through lack of hearing/mobility/I’m not bloody moving – is hit by the cyclist. b) A cyclist is hammering along pavement. At that moment, another cyclist emerges from a side road pavement and both collide. Each is catapulted from their cycles. Each remonstrate with and blame the other. c) One cyclist swerves to avoid the other but ends up going a pedestrian who is minding his own business, lawfully walking on the pavement. d) …

You arrive at a call where a 20 year old male has become slightly verbally agressive towards staff at the ticket office of a train station with ticket barriers: He claims he has lost his return train ticket, has no money, and no way of getting home which is a fifteen minute train journey. The staff will not allow him use of the phone to TRY and get some help. When you arrive he's already shouting at staff: "I've travelled most days for F****NG years!", "This is a flamin joke!", "I JUST NEED ON THE PHONE FOR A MINUTE!!!! ". But seems to be compliant with yourselves and apologises to you (but by no means to the ticket staff) for being so aggressive. He explains the sit…

Ok, the answer might seem obvious but this definitely isn't a trick question. You are either a police officer or a PCSO and you see a vehicle in a public car park with two occupants in. They are going about their own lawful business, but you notice that the displayed VEL has expired by a few days. Upon questioning the driver, it becomes evident that the new tax has been purchased but has not yet arrived in the post. On the balance of probabilities, the offence of failing to display a valid tax disc is being committed. What would you do?

There was a minor incident on a train today, and I wondered what any of you would have done in this situation. Long story short, the conductor ("Train Manager") tripped and fell on someones brand new TV. He was accused of breaking it, and they argued for a while about whether it was broken, whether they could test it, whether he would pay or claim on insurance or something. However, there are a few complicating factors. The Train Manager said he didn't actually fall onto the TV, but over it onto the wall & seat. The TV was not boxed, just wrapped in 1mm plastic foam. It wasn't stored out of the way, just on the floor in a luggage space behind the back seats of the c…

What ho everyone! This particular scenario comes from a rather spiffy book called Crack House by a geezer called Harry Keeble (which is rather good and you should all read it). In it, he mentions one particular scenario where GMP carried out a raid on a drugs house only to end up raiding the wrong house (I think it was in a different street or something). However, this 'wrong house' was also a drugs house in addition to the one they were going to raid originally! So, given how they didn't have s.18 authority or a search warrant, would there be lots of legal wrangling if the arrests were legal or not? Thanks!

You are a special constable. Operation Bravo starts at 12:30 hours and runs till 18:30 hours. You have not volunteered and are not rostered to do Operation Bravo. You have booked to come in at 14:30 to update your expenses then to engage in response afterwards (if you have time),you are in uniform. Upon arrival on station a senior special instructs you to join Operation Bravo, you respond that you need to do your expenses, you are instructed again to immediately join Operation Bravo, you refuse and start your expenses. Have you disobeyed a lawful order? Could you be disciplined? Any thoughts on this scenario please....and remember it's a scenario.

A vehicle is involved in a FTS RTC. The vehicle PNC's to someone from another part of the country, not local, shown no insurance PNC No obvious signs of it being stolen. The vehicle is found a couple of days later with extensive damage, making it non driveable. Parked legally on a public road, but residents suggest it has been abandoned. Are there any powers to seize?

You work for a force where there are no longer cells at the Police station. Instead you have custody centres spread around the county. You are working out of a busy city centre police station and have an arrest by appointment. It's saturday lunchtime, the streets outside are full of Xmas shoppers. Mr B turns up, bang on time and you arrest him. You are not able to carry out your interview and other enquiries at the police station. The nearest custody centre is 10 miles away, so you will need to transport him in your police vehicle, a standard GP with no cage which is parked out the front of the nick. There are no vans available but another officer kindly steps in …
