hi my name is andrew burgess. I aspire to become a police officer in order to help people, learn things about society and communities and bring forward ideas into the world of policing. Having studied in computing up to university level, struggling and failing my second year at uni, I found my self losing interest in the idea of a computing career. I origonally wanted to be a software developer for businesses. The real reasons behind this was for good money. But after finding myself in hard times and losing interest all together I decided i wanted to aim for something completely different and unusually, having just been at uni, i decided to go back to college. I am curr…

My name is Phil but I am not in the job. My main reason for joining the site is to get as much info as I can on various Police Charities, the reason being (and I will make a new thread about this), we are a group of 6 guys who every year run what is know as "The Chicken Run UK Tour", a 3500 miles round the UK (Anit-clockwise, Coastal Route), well in 2009 we have decided to make one of our 2 charities we sponsor to be a Poilce Fund. I have been made aware of 3, which are: The Police Dependants Trust (Pdt) The Traffic Patrol Orphans Fund The Black Rat Fund We have emailed the Pdt but have had no responce. One of the guys on the run is a Traffic Guy from the Met and e…

Hi, as a new member and civilian who passed a police-tutored advanced driving course some years ago, I find it very alarming to watch highly-trained drivers in pursuits such as "Car Wars", "Police Interceptors" etc turn right at a t-junction whilst pursuing a vehicle at high speed, seemingly WITHOUT FULLY CHECKING their A-Pillar blind spots!! I don't care HOW good a driver you are, most these junctions require a COMPLETE STOP, particularly when executing a right-turn, not just a casual glance as we so often see in these documentaries on the assumption that their blues&twos will protect them. Or are the motorcycles, bikes & pedestrians miraculously edited out? Ther…

Hi all, I've just found this great forum while searching on Google. It's good to know there are many other people like myself in the same boat. I've had a good long think about what I want to do career wise. I am now pretty much certain working for the Police is right for me. Does anyone know if Kent Police (I'm from Tunbridge Wells) is currently recruiting? Is there anyone from Tunbridge Wells here? I tried calling them but had no luck so I sent them an email yesterday instead. I thought I would be a little too young starting (just turned 20) but obviously not reading some of the other topics. Probably the most important thing for now is preparation. What would y…
