Hello there, I joined this forum to get advice and information about police work, as I have applied for the Northumbria Police. I am Chinese(British born and bred). 32 year old(damn, getting old....)I can speak Cantonese and Mandarin. I have served 5 years in the British Army, Signals. I am currently working in China as an engineer at the mo, but getting made redundant in January because of the economic down turn. Then a friend in the police asked if I want to join as they need some who can speak Chinese to join the police force. So I submitted the online form and start from here. I hope the police work can be a job for life. Charlie

Hi all, I'm Alasdair and I'm currently mulling over a career in the force. I'm working in corporate finance, and given the inherent lack of job security in this sector at the moment I'm re-evaluating what I want to do with my life. I believe a career in the Police will be a rewarding change of direction, and have joined this site mainly to see if this is the case and whether I'm looking at the job through rose-tinted specs or not. Outside of work, I do a lot of mountain biking, running and climbing and am also a swimming coach. Alasdair

Hi. My name is Andrew, and I am currently in the processof applying for the position of Police Constable for Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. I have recently received feedback from my apploication form and have just sent off my vetting form and attendance record. How long does this next stage take? I t said in my letter that it could take a matter of months?! I am tremendously excited, but am not sure wether it is too early to get excited at this stage. I am currently in the process of training for the assessment centre and the exam, role play and interview stages look really tough going. Is it a good idea for me to contact local stations and ask to speak with serving …

Hi to all I'm considering making a second application to the police, just got turned down after failing a PIRT, cos I was only a few percentage out on my numeracy test. Previously I've had some unqualified experience in health care, i'm trying to find direction to get into the police. Could anyone give me some advice on how to improve my numeracy skills and prepare for the other assessments please. I'm thinking of applying to the Specials, as my recent application was as a PCSO. It would be much appreciated.

Just a quick introduction..... I'm currently a Temp Sergeant with Dorset Police. I have been a Police Officer for 12 years. I am married with two children and live on the Dorset/Hampshire boarder. I was wondering if anyone has been through the new promotion process ? Since it was introduced in Dorset there has been an influx of qualified Sgts with no or little chance of a posting...Has anyone had the same problem? Voyager How do you place the correct rank indicator on the screen?
