Hi, I have recently joined this forum and I have a general question about re-settlement courses within Forces in England & Wales. I retired in 2004 after 30 years service and attended a 2 day re-settlement course 3 years before I was due to retire. This was not compulsory but I was allowed to do it in duty time so I was a fool not to participate. I remember the first day quite well as it sadly co-incided with the Twin Towers atrocity. Overall the 2 days were quite useful particularly in relation to financial matters and there was the usual NARPO speech from the local Chair. I'm leaving hopefully in 2018 with my pension intact...I'm one of the lucky few... With family commitments, I'm starting to think about what I will do as not working is not an option. I've looked at civil nuclear constabulary and British transport police. Can anyone advise as the pension changes in 2006 seem unclear...do I get penalised if I join a non home office force with a pension. I.e can I leave my force, receive my pension and then join btp/CBC and get my pension and salary without penalty ??

First post, appologies for asking a question straight away. I was injured on duty nearly 4 years ago and have been on retricted duties since. I found a job I thought I would be able to do with my little health issues, however I am now finding it very hard. I have been classed as "disabled" and have great difficulties in walking/sitting for any period of time. My original injury has been classified as an "industrial injury". I have 20 pensionable years of service in the job. Where would I stand if I was offered a ill health pension ? If I had 26.5 years in, I know I would get the full amount (?). Good evening, Today I had to see the SMP in relation to being medically pensioned and I was wondering if there is anyone currently in the same position. I am a 17 year Constable that has always been front line and absolutely loved my job. Unfortunately I suffered a terrible injury on duty that has left me totally unable to work as a front line officer. I saw the SMP who didnt even conduct a physical examination as she said I was a straight forward case and told me that she would be recommending I was pensioned off due to my injury. Just a quick question I retired on ill health in June , I have had to have major surgery ( two new hips) and intend not to seek employment for a year or so, was looking in the future at something part time or working for free for a charity all seem to want references from employers , I have a certificate of service (exemplary) , do employers accept this as a reference??? If you do have to get references who do you put as by the time I apply most of my bosses would have retired or slid up the promotion ladder, has anyone had to get references from the Met, do you contact HR and they draft something from your PDR's ??? I do have some mates who I have worked with years …

After several years of hearing and seeing how people's health and personal problems are generally disclosed to others and now having had experienced my own confidential info being shared and talked about, I want to take action and try change this culture and lack of respect for privacy. Please share your experiences of this. For example fell pregnant and had to disclose this info for health and safety reasons. Not having shares this info with anyone else or having even got to the 3 month period. I retired two years ago on ill health grounds after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2006. A former colleague has just had a A20 retirement and is now seeking employment outside of the job. Will the individual be allowed to work after ill health retirement ? If they can work outside of the police why can't they carry on in the job some may ask ? Please can someone advise. Thank you.

I have a quandary and I am hoping that some on here can help me with this decision! I am about to retire after 30 years and I was initially offered a job with our local vehicle recovery operator running the Police scheme for them, it is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week but not much over national minimum wage although it is a permanent job. I have then been contacted by G4S after submitting a CV to them asking if I would be interested in a 6 month contract with the UKBA tracing overstayers. I retired on ill health in June from the Met and in August was awarded a band 1 injury award I was then informed it wouldn't be paid it until I applied for benefits which were deductable. I was told I had to apply for Incapacity Benefit now called Employment Support Allowance (ESA) and Industrial Injury Benefit (IIB). I applied for both , I have had to have major surgery so have no intention of working. I attended a medical for the IIB and was seen by an ATOS doctor who just dictated what I told him , I have heard nothing since seeing him in early October , re the ESA I was informed I could only claim for a year (NI contributions) as I didn't qualify due to having too …

Hi if I resigned from the police prior to my pension age at what point would I be able to claim my pension, at the 50 yrs old and over 25 yrs service albeit with a much reduced lump sum or when I would have completed 30 yrs in total. My whole pension would be in the 1987 scheme and 30 yrs would be up before 2015 scheme starts. Anyone any ideas thanks.

Does anyone have experience of a CV writing service for officers approaching retirement? I know the Met provide a guide but was wondering if anyone had used a professional service and what the experience was like? Thx

I wondered if anybody has experience of the process of applying for a injury award medical pension. I'm currently undergoing treatment for injuries on duty resulting in both physical injuries and PTSD after being involved in a series of incidents. I'm booked to see the SMP early next year. I understand for the purposes of an injury award the medics have to attach a percentage disability. Any advice regarding this issue would be gratefully received.

Hi - can anyone shed some light on this for me? I retired at 49 after 30 years in 2007. When I turn 55 in about 18 months time, what way will the index linking work? Will it be based on the yearly sum I was awarded on retirement, or on what it should have been had I stayed to 55? TIA

I am 50 , 7 months before I get my 30 years in and want to go asap,does anyone know if I leave before my 30 does it have a massive effect on the commutation figure. I have done a calculator which shows me losing about 7k off my lump sum but someone has stated it has much more of an effect as its not possible to commute as much percentage wise if you dont do the 30.Hope this makes sense. Do retired UK Police Officers carry some form of Photo-ID with them that indicates what they are... Retired Officers. I understand that retired US Police Officer are allowed to carry some form of 'Retired Police ID' with them, as they work on the prinicple that...'Once a Cop, always a Cop, even when retired.
