Hi I'm looking for advice regarding my situation. About 12 months ago I was diagnosed with sever degenerative disc disease in the neck, lower back and arthritis in the hips and knees. I was taken off the front line and put in the office, however due to the intensity of the pain I was only working 4 hrs a day and taking regular liquid morphine medication. I went through the process of the SMP following many consultations with specialists who stated, I will need a knee operation and a new hip. This was on top of the excruciating pain I had in my back and neck which was inoperative and I would need to attend the hospital pain clinic regularly, to manage the symptoms. T…

Hi having read other topics with interest and seen the knowledge some of you have, I am asking for information. I have read the topic about IHR for fibromyalgia and the issue of permanence. My diagnosis is ME / CFS. I have been told that I am being sent down the ill health retirement route and so am keen to learn of any others with this illness, serving or retired. What happened to them? What additional evidence might I need to get from doctors for my IHR process? Frustrations are building and I could do without any additional stress to try and keep my illness stable. Thanks

Hello All, Never thought I'd be writing this but wanted to see what your thoughts were on the way forward. A bit of background first. I'm 52 with 24 years service and 5 days short of 26 pensionable service, currently a custody skipper. I have recently been diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis, which is a rare disease and will require me to be on drug treatment for the rest of my life. I have initially been placed on high doses of steroids and immune-supressent drugs and these come with side effects (lack of sleep, drug induced diabetes, fatigue, nausea to name but a few). The aim is to reduce the inflammation of my liver which the steroids do and turn down…

After 25 years service I've been off for 2 years and been on Zero and Half pay for 18 months. We are in dire straits financial as they are refusing to retire me. I'm permanently disabled from performing the normal duties since 2009. I asked for my decision to stay under A20 be reviewed. They have twice recommended I be retained. They have no identifiable post for me that could accommodate my conditions- 4 level degenerative lumber discs which I was originally A20 in 2009, they degenerated from 3 level to 4 level with significant change. In addition I have 3 level degenerative discs in my neck. Heavily worn Raidial Elbow Head and have Depression along with the stress and a…

Hi folks, Currently in a stand off with Capita, I retired in September 2015 and was told that my pension would be automatically index linked as I went with 27 years service on medical grounds. Since then I have assumed this would automatically take place until checking last week. It clearly hasn't. On emailing them Capita have said that the information I have is wrong and I will not get any increase until my 55th Birthday. This is their final decision. Having been through considerable unnecessary stress when retiring through basic incompetence by both my force and Capita I was wondering if anyone has some concrete information or regulation I can refer to that s…

After 8 years in the police force I decided to apply for another job with the local council and I have been offered the position. It will mean the same pay, 11 mins from home and not the 1 hour commute each way, permanent position and 60/40 office based. The reason I applied was to re address my work and home life balance having an 8 week and 3 year old sons. I now have the dilemma of leaving the police service and is the grass always greener on the other side? I'm struggling with postives at this time to remain in the career that I wanted so badly!! The plan when I started was to go on cid but after seeing them in action or lack of it just waiting for al…

Hi all, I'm recent recruit and have signed up to the 2015 Care Pension Scheme. Are there any calculators or tools to get an accurate estimate for my retirement? I'm 28 and obviously I know it's a long way off but the information we have received thus far on the scheme is minimal....

I'm a cop with 22yrs service so I'm apparently in this tapering bracket until 2018. I've had 3 lots of surgery on my back now and lost a number of discs so made the decision to apply for a medical so submitted the forms for a H1. Does anyone have any idea what to expect on the pension front - I've had numerous folk guessing but i just haven't got a clue. Is there an automatic enhancement in pension years or do I go with what I have ? I've read about percentage of disability and upper tiers but none of it makes a great deal of sense - I'm up with the SME next week so wouldn't mind knowing what would eventually be on offer. Cheers

The County Air Ambulance Trust's HELP Appeal - Charity Box Volunteers Needed in the Greater London Area In 2013 we asked for volunteers to join our HELP (Helicopter Emergency Landing Pads) Appeal team. With your support we were able to establish charity collection boxes in key locations across the South West Greater London area. Since our last coverage we are proud to say that the helipad at St George's Hospital in Tooting has been built and has helped save lives since 2014. One of the first patients to be flown to St George's was Harvey - a seven year old boy from Crawley. For an active seven year old, half term holidays and an adventure playground all sound…

We are looking to speak to retired (within the last four years) senior police officers (ie. inspector, chief inspector, superintendent, chief superintendent or above) as part of a research project that we are coordinating. This would involve taking part in a 25 minute paid telephone interview. If you are interested in participating please call me on 020 7407 2546 or send an email to Philip@leftfifeld.co.uk. Please share if you know people who might fit the criteria. Kind regards Philip Tester

Evening all I am currently in the process of being medically retired from PSNI due to chronic PTSD after 28 1/2 yrs service. My question is when retired and receiving my pension & medical pension can you take another job in civvy street once I am well enough to do so in the future? If so does my medical pension stop as i would be receiving an income. This will be in quite a few years if at all but i just want to make some sort of plans for the future if I can get my life back together. Thanks
