Pigman 327
Well i am 4 working days a\way from my last day . I have had no input of any sort from supervisors or HR as to what/how my last few days are to be spent , what to do and how to do it and when etc What were your forces like as far as this is concerned , is there a set routine ? or what My last day appears to be the same as any other working day and the three days before that ! Is this normal ?
999tommo 1,297
From what I hear, you are being treated exactly the same as officers in my force who have retired of late. No handshake, no visit from senior management, just finish your shift and bugger off !! Sad really after 30 years.
Quokka 152
That really isn't on.....How sad , well from me Pigman.. croaks 51
Firstly congrtaulations for making it! Sadly true many of the old timers on my department have worked upto their last day without so much as a hand shake from senior management it has been left to the lads to sort out the collection etc. It's not just those retiring either, you could be on the same department for years and when you leave nothing your gone unfortunately those on the ground are too busy and those in management don't care. However I will wish you a very long and happy retirement and all the best in the future.
croaks 51
On a lighter note only 30 years! That's only part time, I've got to do 40 to qualify for a full pension :-)
Traffic Rat + 287
My Oppo who retired last year was invited to a Brew with the super at HQ. Super suprised him by having actually read up on his file (We are a HQ ran unit but out on the motorways) chated about what he had done, what his plans were etc and thanked him. Last 2 days were clearing lockers, bagging uniform and clearing any last bits of paperwork that might come back to me.
bikerider 5
It must have changed a great deal. I retired in 2000 and the last day ended with a bit of a piss-up (Actually quite a big one) and the presentation of a certificate and a short speech of appreciation from my Area Commander and a parting pressie from my ex mates. Thats about all I remember of the night due to the 'piss-up'!
Techie1 + 2,024
Management have probably forgotten. And as for HR, well....

Just check to make sure you're not on the rota still!!!

What happens about court appearances, can you still be called to court after you've retired?? The answer is yes. I travelled back down to Croydon and Guildford Crown Courts 3 times in my 1st year of retirement to give evidence. They paid me all my expences and the going salary rate at the time for the hours spent traveling to and from home and my time spent in court. Quite a nice little bonus. Maverick22 994
My Chief always called everyone retiring to visit him at HQ, to bring their wife if they wished, to thank them for the service they had given, and to wish them all the best. Very few refused the opportunity got go. Some went to tell the Chief a few gripes. Up until 1994 all retires went to Hq for a slap up meal with wine etc etc, but after 94 it was reduced to tea and biscuits. You district Ch. supt also saw every retiree and thanked them, and they still do.
Pigman 327
Well i have not had anything sent to me or spoken to me apart from what i have done myself . I have sent my pension forms off and my reisgnation form telling them the date i shall retire and my last working day . I have no response and tbh i am not surprised in the least , i have requested to view my personal record but had to remind them that i had not heard from them , i have eventually seen it . I will be glad to leave an organisation in a downward spiral , i am sad and dissapointed and worry for those left behind . I thought until the last couple of years that i would do some part time work within the organisation but have no enthusiasm for the organisation at all and would not wish to work in a depressing environment that i now see . The roles that there are are now Zero Hours or Casual Contracts and this appears to be the avenue that they are going down now wioth employment . I have no supervisor at present and i expect i will not go into work on my last day. I am not a person who likes a fuss or to be the centre of attention but this time is quite depressing . Reasonable Man + 1,231
I took my leave and time off for my last few weeks. If I wanted a leaving do a boss would have said some nice things but I'm an unsociable git and don't do 'do's'. I was asked to go to my local nick to hand in my cards and keys and that was it. As we were getting rid of all us 'dead wood' under A19 the Chief had no chance of seeing everyone personally. He wouldn't have been able to do anything else for 6 months. We're all different and my take on it was at the end of 30 years the books were balanced. They paid me all they owed me. When I had gone the extra mile (and it was noticed) I was recognised with some nice letters, commendations and even a bit of cash as bonus payments. So I didn't want anything else. Pigman 327
Having served 24 of my years at this Nick one would think there might be at least a shake of the hand by somebody of importance at the station , is that too much to expect ? I will be the only one at work on that day from my section/dept too and they got my shift wrong ! Fantatstic last day ! Looking forward to it - NOT I'd rather not go in and they can stick their 5hr 11 minute shift and take the money off me , then that would leave me finishing the day before and same scenario. Sent an email to HR and they can't be arsed to sort out my papers until after i have served my last day ! FFS they have known for 2 months what day i was finishing ! They state they will send them to my home address as i will be on leave ! PISS UP - BREWERY come to mind .
