Injury ill health pension

Good evening,

Today I had to see the SMP in relation to being medically pensioned and I was wondering if there is anyone currently in the same position. I am a 17 year Constable that has always been front line and absolutely loved my job. Unfortunately I suffered a terrible injury on duty that has left me totally unable to work as a front line officer.

I saw the SMP who didnt even conduct a physical examination as she said I was a straight forward case and told me that she would be recommending I was pensioned off due to my injury. To be honest, as gutted as I am, I know this is the only option and I now have the wait to find out how much (or little) they decide i get.

I just wanted to see if there was anyone else in the same position that would like to liase with me via message to see how were getting on. So many people have told me how "lucky" i am to be getting out and it annoys the crap out of me. I am 35 years old and I am classed as permanently disabled all because of doing the job I love.........I dont feel that lucky!

I am in the same postition as you. I have been off sick for almost two years and saw the SMP in January who hardly did any form of examination before stating they would be recommending a medical retirement due to ill health (injury on duty).

I also have 17 years in. It seems to be taking forever though. I was told that I should hear something by mid March. I was informed that it was mostly a paperwork exercise with reports being done and then checks that I had no discipline outstanding and then being given a 28 day notice period.

I have always been front line and due to an assault I am now classed as having a permanent disability. I am gutted but to be honest the way things are going I feel that I am in the better position to leave now and still be young enough to do something else, I am 40 than to stay and be kicked out eventually.

It would be interesting to see how you get on and how long it takes.

Not sure how you have got on but I saw the SMP on the 4th February and today have received my letter advising that I will be ill health retired unless I wish to appeal.
