Hi, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the role of the OSU, CSG & TSG? Been looking on the net but have come up with very limited info. Is there a lot of competition for places? Thanks

I was just wondering if anybody could shed light on actual shift patterns over, say two months? I realise it's supposed to be 4 on, 4 off (pre-TACOS) but how does that actually work out? If anybody could post a representative shift pattern (without overtime/extra shifts) that would be good. Just trying to work out actual time on/off and how many times you get a full weekend off for instance. Also, as yet I'm not fully aware of what earlies/lates/nights means wrt police shifts so if you could elaborate, that would be useful. Many thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I read in my T&C's that I can't be part of any trade union which isn't attached to MDP (completely understand), however as a current civil servant I'm a member of PCS union and whilst at Wethersfield I noted some PCS union posters. So I'm a little confused as to whether I need to cancel my PCS membership or not?

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this forum but you might have seen me floating around some of the other forums out there. I am currently a special constable with a HO force in the North East. I have already passed a search assessment centre and I am looking to transfer my score to the MDP. I expect I would be posted to HMNB Clyde. I have a few questions that I hope you guys can answer: 1) How do you find the force? 2) What is morale like at the moment? in my force its very low. 3) What is the chance of the current shift pattern changing? 4) Are you always posted to a gate as a probationer or are there other jobs on shift? (like a response role) 5) Do you get to do any …

Hi All, Been reading lots about students failing the initial firearms course back in 2014, over half of one course! and the instructors were very unhelpful. I too heard the instructors were pulled in by the chief officer once the fed rep got involved. Does anyone know if the training and instructors are better now than last year to get students through or is the failure rate still high?

Hi Guys, I have been through the forum and cant seem to find a breakdown of what to expect during the firearms section of the assessment center. Obviously I know people cant disclose too much information about the assessments, however any information at all on how to prepare for this would be greatly appreciated. I have got my fitness to a good level, purchased books to help me with the search element of the assessment, but the firearms is the only part I havens been able to prepare for. Thanks, Gordon

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/439774/Policing_Plan15-16_low_res_final.pdf This the the new policing plan, I think it was released a couple of days ago. It outlines new priorities etc. Also shows external recruitment continuing with a target of 300 new starters. It seems we're still waiting for SDSR to conclude before we really know what the force is going to look like long-term?

I was just bored and was reading up on parks legislation. Much of the legislation is 'circular', in that in refers to other pieces of legislation that they clarify, substitute or extend other bits of legislation. This confusion creates some quirky nuances and these obscure laws interest me. Anyhow, I found something that suggests that Parks Police can enforce some provisions of the Vagrancy. Let's recap on their powers... Under the London Parks Order 1969 they can enforce byelaws and "any enactment relating to parks and open spaces under their control". The latter bit is often overlooked. An 'enactment' can mean a specific section of a specific Act. The Public Health A…

Hi All, I just had an email saying I have failed the force vetting, I have been sc level cleared in october 2013 and nothing really has changed. They say I can have a review but they wont tell me what I have failed on! Has anyone been in the same position as me and has anyone had a review and had it over turned? So upsetting after passing fitness and medical! :-(
