Just a word to the wise, reading the comments here about Overtime. Yes OT is good in the MDP, and yes there still is loads of overtime knocking about the force. But for gods sake don't think this will remain the norm! OT is only used to cover an operational shortfall, once the force is up to strength it WILL disappear. The OT rates are also likely to get cut in the Tacos review. Don't make OT part of your financial planning or you will seriously get yourself in to trouble when it goes.

I'm fully aware that after 4months at Wethersfield you become responsible for your own living arrangements. I'm just wondering about general price of renting a room down near AWE? I think Mr Fox posted "all in" (minus food of course) accommodation at an NHS facility a while back which, if I remember correctly was about £500 per month. Can anyone go into further detail about other options, such as house shares or even a hotel? Personally I'd be going back home in between most shifts so would look for the cheapest available.

Hi all. Can any serving MDP officer just confirm if the MOD are as reserve sympathetic as the official line makes out? Is it possible to get off shift for example if an exercise falls on a weekend you should be working?

The fitness test level for new applicants on the bleep test has been lowered for new applicants, effective immediately. The new level that must be attained is 5.7. I believe that brings it in line with non AFO officers of HO forces? Please correct me if I'm wrong Source: Facebook

Having looked at absolutely every option and aspect of the MDP, I think it's time for me to admit defeat and look elsewhere instead of a potentially rewarding career, that I know would enjoy! My wife works every saturday and every other sunday, and only has mondays off; leaving the house at 0730 every day and not returning home until 1730. We have two young boys of 7 (at school followed by daycare 5 days a week) and 3 (at daycare 5 days a week). I currently drop them off at daycare/school before coming to work and collect them both from daycare on the way home. After looking at shift patterns, basic salary, the fact that we would need childcare for 5 weekends out of 8 (…

Hi all, I appreciate that pay is a subject dear to our hearts, and some may not wish to discuss it, but I was wondering if someone had a rough figure for take home pay during basic training and early probation? I may have miscalculated what I would drop to on a monthly basis when I worked it out prior to application submission; and therefore a ball-park figure would give me an idea as to whether I really can afford this or not. I also know that everyone is different in terms of tax codes, etc. I have run through a few calculations but keep coming out with different answers - I hate tax calculations! I'm happy to accept private messages if people are happy to tell me b…

Hi, if there are any former/currently serving RMP officers here, could you provide a bit of first hand insite to the job? Even better if there's anyone in/former CPG (even if you can't say much about it). Trying to make a decision between the CNC and RMP, and I'm torn, so anything that can help sway me towards one or the other would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, looking to see if anyone can answer the following questions please. I'm thinking of transferring across from a home office force to the MDP. I served 22 years in the forces before becoming a Police officer. I am coming up for three years service as a Constable and am 42 years of age. What age would I have to work till with the MDP, 60 or 65? I assume I can just transfer my police pension across? Do you have to move around in the MDP or is at your own discretion as it states on the website? Think that's it for now, thanks in advance.

Hi, found out the other day I passed assessment day and can't wait to get going!! I've got my medical in september and would just like to know if there is any advice anyone has. Obviously eating health and trying to loss a bit of weight and ensure that I'm not stresses (never even thought of needing a blood pressure test before) I've seen that some people say for the drugs test that it might be good to list any medication I've been on and even shower products. Is this correct, if so how far back should I go. I'm not often I'll but was ill in May. To be honest I've never had a medical before and so don't really know what to expect.

Hi guys, quick question: For those that have passed through the medical stage recently, how strict are they being with BMI? I understand 30 is the upper limit, I'm currently sitting at 31.2 and it does not reflect my health at all. I am 5.10 and currently 15st8, as I've been bodybuilding for the past 2 years.. I do not look 'out of shape' at all.. Also 7.6 on the bleep test will be a breeze so I hope this is taken into consideration. Just want to know if they are considering everyone on an individual basis or literally not taking anything over 30. Thanks!
