I've searched the forum as I was unsure if this had been brought up before but it turns out Lee Valley Park Authority in Enfield has a strange set of byelaws which have unique wording in regards to enforcement I haven't come across before. https://www.leevalleypark.org.uk/byelaws The byelaws for the most part are fairly standard in scope, total fine limit is the same as the majority of open space byelaws in existance being level 2 on the standard scale. On reading further however there is this: 56. Removal of offenders Any person offending against any of these byelaws may be removed from the ground by an officer of the Authority or a constable. Th…

https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/hammersmith-and-fulham-parks-to-be-regularly-patrolled-by-wardens-and-police-officers/ Hammersmith and Fulham parks to be regularly patrolled by wardens and police officers By Owen Sheppard, Local Democracy Reporter Parks and neighbourhoods in Hammersmith and Fulham will get regular patrols from uniformed wardens and officers, the council has said. The officers will form part of a 72-strong Neighbourhood Enforcement Team (NET). The new team will effectively be a merger and expansion of existing officer teams, such as neighbourhood wardens, parks police, street scene officers and highways enforcement officers. A r…

I thought this would be a fun thread to get going as every so often we seem to find another old/obscure piece of legislation that has been forgotten about that enables a council or private authority the ability to appoint constables outside of 'general' acts and statutes. It seems useful to post a definitive list of acts that we know of enabling this power that still exist and are active today in law. Here are the ones I know of: Section 57 of the Civil Aviation Act 1982 Allows for the Secretary of State to nominate individuals to be sworn in as Special Constables in relation to aviation property under the Secretary of State’s con…

Guernsey Police- WW2

I found an interesting paper online detailing the experiences of the Guernsey Chief of Police during WW2: http://www.guernsey.police.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=5470&p=0 It’s unthinkable as to how someone could work with the Nazi regime and tread the fine line between ‘reluctant engagement’ and criminal collaboration with the enemy. It contains some interesting anecdotes as to how he played the different types of German Police that were active on Guernsey off against one another (as they all seemingly disliked each other). And it also contains some uncomfortable duties, such as searching for British military personnel and even being tasked with escorting s…

I thought it could be interesting to re-start the old thread ... ... with 2020 information on all of those amazingly varied bodies of constables, or persons akin, whether they are warranted and equipped, or a combination of the two. Let's see how many we can get! I'll start with Port of Bristol Police - which police Royal Portbury and Avonmouth docks. (https://twitter.com/bristolportpol?lang=en) . Seems the full monty with uniform & powers etc.

New Epping Forest Constable ‘Cop’ Cars
by ParochialYokal- 1 follower

The Epping Forest Constables have launched the first of what we can assume will be their new fleet of battenberg vehicles. A little surprised that they were allowed to do this, as the City of London has been a bit risk adverse when it comes to these Constables, compared to their Hampstead Heath colleagues. It also perhaps raises a question about the expectation of the public when they see one of these pull up and what jumps out is a Forest Keeper in a green and beige uniform whom isn’t carrying cuffs or a baton. I am not criticising their role. Rather, if you give them a ‘cop car’ then you should give them the rest of the tools to do their job. …

I thought this would make a good conversation as I don't believe it's ever been discussed before. Speaking to some of the older cops in BTP prior to the force officially being reorganised with a police authority and the formalisation of BTP jurisdiction in 2003 apparently there was a reliance on the concept that if an officer encountered a crime off jurisdiction that couldn't be ignored the force would expect officers to make the arrest anyway even if well away from railway property under the guise of "Colour of Law" or "Duty to Act." This apparently was widely held within the force at the time that whilst officers may have acted without powers at a statutory …

Broads Authority River Control
by Radman +- 9 replies

Bit of an odd one this, the Home Office responded to a FoI request listing all known 'Private Constabularies' within the UK and included some strange entries on their list including "Broads Authority River Control" but on conducting some research into this the people appointed to keep watch on river are actually "Rangers" in law and not constables. It doesn't appear they have been given "power of a Constable" either much like Fisheries officers have. Can anyone with any direct knowledge of this organisation shed some light on this agency or is this just a mistake made by the Home Office? https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/list_of_private_police_force…

States of Jersey Police and Honourary Police

This is probably a really long shot, but has anyone either served with, had any involvement with, or transferred to or from either the States of Jersey Police or the island's Honourary Police? The reason for my enquiry is that an acquaintance is considering joining either of the two forces. It would be nice to get some firsthand information from a serving or former officer of either. Thanks in advance.

The Constables of Southwark
by ParochialYokal- 4 replies

I have discovered that an ancient body of Constables exists within some parts of the London Borough of Southwark; which, judging by the lack of material on the internet, I can only assume very few people know anything about. I only discovered that they exist by accident when I did some research into why I saw a City of London road sign located within Southwark, whereby I found out that the City has a centuries old involvement within that parish and surrounding areas. This might be a bit of a long post, as both the history and the role that the City of London played within Southwark is somewhat complex. As such, as I have tried to break it down into chunks t…

Hey guys and gals, I've been toying with the idea of transferring to MOD from a HO force, I just have a few questions that I can't find the answers to - any replies would be greatly welcomed and appreciated - What is it like working for MOD Police in relation to staffing, morale, duties, etc? - What is the current pay scale for a PC? (Namely Portsmouth if this effects the pay - as I'd assume London will have more weighting). - What is the transferee induction course like as well as the firearms course? - Is there a good pass rate? And what happens if you fail to achieve AFO status? Many thanks for reading and I hope you all have a great we…

Hello, I am back lol, I have had time to think and reflect on my failed attempt to join Police Scotland. I am now attempting to join the MOD Police. I had applied but I made a silly error in the application, I was supposed to send a photocopy of my driving licence and DVLA. I bad forgotten to do so. I am now needing to wait 3 months before I can reapply. It is not all bad, this means I have more time to prepare. I am running outside more and improving my fitness, I am aiming to get 3 miles in 30 minutes. After this my target will be 1.5 miles in 12 minutes. Once my fitness levels is good enough then the bleep test should be achi…
