Other church or 'religious' police forces

We all know of the Cathedral Constabularies (x4): * Liverpool *York *Canterbury *Chester ... ancient forces most of them (well 600-800 yrs at least). BUT, can/could other churches and other faiths, theoretically form their own? E.g. the Roman Catholic Church for their cathedrals? What about synagogues, temples or mosques? Could they? I think Cathedrals are attested under common law, i.e. there is no actual Act, so surely this could be used for constables at any place of worship? What do you think?

UK Police Officers overseas service

I thought this would be a good thread for the subject of UK police serving overseas. Both questions & answers and information. Government page link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/international-secondments-for-the-foreign-and-commonwealth-office#opportunities-for-police-officers (bit out of date, still talks about ACPO, Afghanistan, etc) I know it generally falls into one of the following categories: * United Nations Police (UNPOL) secondments * Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Police secondments * British Overseas Territories and Commonwealth Realms/Republics/Countries etc secondments Examples include offi…

NCA Police

How 'police' like are the NCA? It seems now they are much more hands on, their branding is advancing with "NCA POLICE" type wording, collar numbers and they seem to carry PAVA in these photos. I originally thought they were more desk investigative based, so interesting & good to see they are quite hands on. I know they have either Constable, Customs Officer or Immigration Officer powers, but can they get involved in anything anywhere, NI, Scotland etc? I wonder too how many of them are firearms officers. I seem to remember a shooting in London a few years back. Not asking for any inside details, but just interested to see the Home Office having mor…

Comparison of International Police Forces

I think it is interesting to think about the differences and similarities in policing, the office of constable, sheriffs, police, etc with one of our oldest allies (and formerly enemies) - the U.S.. 1. UK Home Office forces - No national government-controlled force. US - Each municipality, town or city is free to form its own department, but is not always required to. I think this can be a great plus, as it is very much a local council/mayor controlled force, but it has to be funded locally. Hence some towns have done away with it & pay the local County Sheriff's Office/Dept. 2. US Sheriff. Elected in most counties (parishes in LA state) to be the chi…

I've searched the forum as I was unsure if this had been brought up before but it turns out Lee Valley Park Authority in Enfield has a strange set of byelaws which have unique wording in regards to enforcement I haven't come across before. https://www.leevalleypark.org.uk/byelaws The byelaws for the most part are fairly standard in scope, total fine limit is the same as the majority of open space byelaws in existance being level 2 on the standard scale. On reading further however there is this: 56. Removal of offenders Any person offending against any of these byelaws may be removed from the ground by an officer of the Authority or a constable. Th…
