This is an oldie but goldie, back in 2012 I found this piece of statute lingering online and to my surprise it was still sat on the statute books. To this very day it could theoretically be used tomorrow by a council to appoint constables at a Magistrates Court. On first appearance it is a very similar piece of law as the later London open spaces act that grants a London Borough the power to appoint parks constables, the PHAA 1907 however is available to ALL Local Authorities making it useful to councils outside of London. What's the problem? Well it isn't exactly clear as to what powers it grants to these appointed constables under Section 77... My interpretatio…

Does anyone know whether the RAF Police has jurisdiction over civilians on RAF flights? And do they have jurisdiction on civilians landing at a RAF facility? For example, for Customs purposes? I understand that RAFPOL fulfil such duties on service personnel coming and going on flights (e.g. they undertake all security, policing, Customs and, I guess, immigration duties at RAF ‘air ports’). I know that Service Police have jurisdiction over civilians whom are in military families abroad and also contractors, but there are sometimes civilians whom fit in neither category whom may take a RAF flight. In fact, I think there are even some obscure locations where civilians c…

Whilst going over the Portland Port Police website I ended up making my way through to another piece of legislation that I had never heard of. It is completely separate to the standard "Special Constables" most Port/Harbour Police are sworn in under, that being the Harbours, Docks and Piers Clauses Act 1847. This legislation was approved by Parliament in 2008 and makes direct mention to the Police Act of 1996 and the establishment of a "Police Force." The legislation in question is in regards to the "London Gateway Port" Site in Essex and allows for "The Harbour Authority" (otherwise known as "The Company") to apply directly to a Magistrates to have Police Constables…

Hi all hopefully someone can help here. I am hoping on getting the initial course in September. Alot of my choices are in South East England (AWE, Portsmouth etc.) I'm relocating wherever they put me really so a big part of where I go is cost of living and allowances available. E.g. Bacton near Norwich cost of living is way cheaper than near AWE. Anyone got any recommendations for anywhere in cheaper to live areas or what allowances are available that you have enjoyed working?. Anyone who doesn't want to post publicly about allowances payable or issues at certain sites are welcome to pm me. Cheers

Just seen on the MDP Facebook page a profile of an officer who worked as a surveillance officer and then an intelligence officer later in her career. Does anyone have any info on what sort of role the surveillance officer is? Is it similar to that of the HO forces at it said she worked closely alongside them? Thanks

Hi all, I have been given start date for training as the 30th April. I have been told my contract should arrive this week. Anyone able to describe what a day in the life of working at AWE Aldermaston is like? Anyone else staring on the 30th April? Cheers, Tom

I recently saw an MDP Facebook post that confirmed that officers are able to join the TSG during their probationary period. To do this, does an officer need to be in a certain location (AWE) or does this not matter? Also, approximately how far in to your probation would this become a possibility or is it just on the basis of when vacancies occur? Finally, Is there much demand for places within the TSG? I apprciate these questions may be impossible to answer but any information on them or even just the TSG in general would be great.

Ok, since I have looked and been so far unable to find the data I'd have found helpful when considering applying I thought I'd supply what happens to me.obviously assuming I am sucessful this will be for the full process. I will put up the timescale for things happening with the application process and although EVERY APPLICATION WILL BE DIFFERENT and so the timescale may be different for each individual (along with internal MDP pressures on recruitment adding or reducing) it will hopefully give anyone interested a rough idea of how long things take and let them prepare better. So here it is so far: 1. Application submitted (by post): 17th February 2015 2. Email confir…

Hey guys, new here! Just been given a date for when the Assessment centre will run at the end of April. Now I'm slightly concerned about my fitness. I've done nothing but weights for a year or so, so my BMI has gone up massively and I did a trial of the Bleep test yesterday 15Metre and only got to level 6.1. Do you guys think it's possible to get to 7.6 in around 2 months time? Any replies welcome! Regards

Evening all, just wondered if anyone had heard anything in regards to when the next intake will be? I know they said February but wasn’t sure if that had been confirmed?

Thought I'd make a new thread for everyone who has been selected to start on the September intake. Hopefully use it as a place to speak to our future colleagues before we meet them. Luckily I got the base I had wanted, so to say I'm chuffed is an understatement. I hope everyone got what they wanted. Anyway, hope to speak to some of you, and looking forward to getting started.
