Hi guys, A guy I work with is an ex-S/Inspector with Essex Police and he's given me his old Tac Vest, a couple of pairs of cuffs and an Essex custodian. Obviously I won't be able to wear the custodian (I think he's given it to me as a souvenir type thing), but will I be able to wear the Tac Vest? What about carrying a second pair of cuffs? Or is this kit useless to me? Cheers, Ben

Hello, Finally I've got my MSC training dates through and cannot wait! I'll either be doing the hybrid course starting on 10th Febuary 2014 or Full-time course starting on 3rd March 2014, this is work dependant! I am seriously excited for this now! Anyone else on either of those courses?

Hi Everyone, Something that's been bugging me for a while (well since we did TVC) has been, how do we honour the time frames when we are only part-time volunteers? Are we expected to get updates to cases and then contact victims when we're not on duty? If so, would this be classed as some of our hours? Also, what about giving out a phone number to victims? I certainly don't want to be giving out my personal number to every Tom, Dick and Harry, so are we supplied a phone by the MET? Or are we expected to purchase our own for 'business' use? Cheers, Ben

police stations are closing. will this affect specials?

Hello All, I am a Senior Section Officer (S.Insp) from West Yorkshire Police and I am looking at coming down to the Met with a small team to maybe spend a shift with some of you. We would like to see how different the specials do things down south and experience a shift with the Met. Who would be the best person to contact to arrange this? Kind Regards Steve

I know the CKP has been discussed a stupid amount of times but I wanted to clear up a few rumors I've heard from the inside. I've heard that the CKP won't be around for much longer and will be got rid of soon? Anyone else heard the same? Cheers!

Hi all, I was told i would be contacted by the 10th of February about when my training would begin and what borough i would be based in. I haven't received an e-mail, which is how they have contacted me in the past, but i did receive a call from an unknown number today. How were other people contacted when they were given training info? The suspense is killing me! haha. Thanks

Hi folks, Sorry in advance if this has been answered before, I'm new to the forum. I don't use my Oyster card much so don't know much about it. I will be joining an upcoming intensive course so will need to travel from Heathrow every day by tube. Would it be beneficial to just buy a weekly travel card every week (£53) and would this qualify as an expense to claim back?. Many thanks.

Hi all, Have my day 2 tomorrow, not worried about that (che sera, sera.. etc!), but I've put down Wesminster as my first choice Borough, and have had an email from them congratulating me on passing Day 1 etc. I've looked through a few oldish topics and have heard mixed comments about Westminster, and so wasnt sure whether to follow up with Westminster... my second choice was Lambeth which I reckon could be an exciting and varied 'beat' too... so basically i'd like to hear from anyone who works as a special in westminster with how they are finding it, pros and cons that sort of thing... i like the idea of policing central london, but am worried that training etc and nur…

I've been successful with the application process and will be starting in January. I have a few questions for people who have recently gone through training or are in the job. When do we get measured for uniform? Can anyone recommend some decent boots? As a Special, I wore Magnums but they were a bit cheap and I want something a bit more professional looking.

Hi all, I have been offered training in Hendon (the rest of the hybrid course) in coming January, however, it is very likely for me to move to Lewisham (close to Catford Station) sometime in Feb next year. My choice of the Borough at the time of application was Lambeth, however, the transport link seems not very good (especially after a night shift). Should I change my choice to Lewisham? Or are there any nearby borough you guys would suggest (with good transport link)? Please share your view. Thanks.

Hey guys, Just wondering what the criteria is for absence and sickness when your going through the MSC to PC application. I think I've had below 10 days off work in the last 3 years but I was wondering what the limit is before they reject your application... and if they reject it!

Okayy.. So my understanding is that ALL external applicants must have completed their CKP in order to apply for a regular PC position and that it's recently been amended so that Met specials can apply internally without this requirement. What about specials from other forces? Can you apply to the Met as a regular referencing your previous Specials experience and IPS status etc instead of having the CKP?
