What does no trace mean? I keep hearing that in my workplace but no one has explained it to me properly. And has anyone found learning cris, merlin and crimint tricky? It's taking me some time to get to grips with and I keep going back to ncalts to practice

Hi Has anyone else notice that the new radio update has removed the back-light radio feature! This does not make much sense as at night without a torch make its impossible to to see the screen. I think this a a poor cost saving exercise to extend battery life and reduce the need to replace them. Wouldn't it of been better to give advice to officers to dim the light settings rather than 'leaving us in the dark' if we need to change channels.

Im curious to what happens at the medical? Will it involve hair samples/blood tests/urine samples etc? Every force appears to do it seperately, I was curious to do what the met do in this? Thanks.

Guys i know this has probably been done to death so apologies; but I recently attended the SEARCH assessment centre for regular recruitment with another home office force - passed with 65%. That force will not be taking me on as I was not 'one of the top performing candidates' which is rather depressing. Will the met allow me to transfer my scores? I understand I will have to do the CKP though. Luke

Personally I don't agree with this and I know many of my colleagues will feel the same, as I feel that officers should have to work up the ranks.. Constable > Sgt > Insp > Chief Insp. However, am I missing the point? Is there a benefit or need for people going straight to a Superintendents rank without prior policing experience as a Chief Inspector or below? I would suggest perhaps fast tracking Special Inspectors or S/Chief Inspectors for the role. It would be good to listen to what other officers / forum members think of this, as I'm sure there are advantages to this as well as disadvantages - perhaps I'm missing a point.

Hi Everyone, My name is Jason and I am 22 years old. I applied for the Met Police externally in August last year. I passed both assessment days and my CKP course which I paid over £900 to be told TODAY that I failed the security vetting. I have no criminal record whatsoever, not even a parking ticket to my name so I know its not me. I found out from my mum that my dad, who I don't speak to and haven't done for 6 years has been in prison for stealing cars as well as several drink driving convictions. Great!. My dad who I don't even know will AGAIN ruin my life. I have made an appeal as my mum and dad split up when I was young and haven't lived or seen him rarely since. Do…

I've been think about joining the policd for some time now and think its time to apply. My only concern is to do so I would be taking a pay cut and I have just found that the concession for Met officers is now gone. This would mean a further £3.5 spent on travel. Is there any other discounts or arrangements for train travel (I would be using 1st capital connect)

Me and a colleauge have discussing the viability of this idea and i just wanted to get other views on it. How would people feel if the Met turned specials into there own OCU, with there own shoulder letter, MSC for example. Rather than there BOCU codes, obviously specials on safer transport or traffice etc would keep the specialist letters. This would then mean that specials could remove the 5 prefix, still using 4 digit numbers. This would then allow specials to work on any BOCU without the Dispatcher calling up asking why your using the channel when its not your BOCU. It would also allow for MSC callsigns, e.g MSC45, with each borough being given a call sign or two. T…

Hello, I have a date for my day one and was just wondering if anyone could give me a bigger insight into what I should expect? My main concerns are the interview and the numerical test. What sort of questions do they ask? I've been learning about averages (medium) and am struggling. It's making me more nervous than I already am. Does anyone know anymore about what scores I need to achieve in each area as well as overall? Any reply will be highly appreciated! Thank you!

WE ARE LOOKING FOR POLICE SPECIALS Following the recent success of working directly with retired London Met Police Officers I confirm we are now looking for Police Specials to become our Charity Ambassadors. Air ambulances do an amazing job but when the have to land away from a hospital without a helipad, valuable time erodes and secondary transfers via a road ambulance into A&E Departments can prove fatal. Our life-saving HELP Appeal is providing funding for brand new Helicopter Emergency Landing Pads at Major Trauma Centres and key A&E Hospitals across the country. The HELP Appeal is the only charity providing funding towards these life-saving helipads and y…

Thinking of moving into Kennington tomorrow, whats peoples view on the rooms in comparison to Paddington which unfortunately does not have any rooms available? I heard it recently had a refurb, but as we know with the Met, 'refurb' is used lightly.

Evening all, I was wondering if anyone knows if the met take BMI tests seriously, as in if you are above or below the target zones would that affect your application? I know some forces don't pay much attention to it, even if you are above they can still mark you as fit for duty and you never hear from it again. Are the met the same or are they strict on it and over or under the zone would result in a fail? Thanks in advance for any helpful answers

just watching a program about gangs in America. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFGvPnvhXUU I know in the capital we do have to deal with them, but how does it impact officers on a individual or small team basis? it's one of my fears actually...on patrol and then get spotted and taken down by a gang of 10 or more guys.
