Just starting this to see the opinions of others, I was out with my Sgt yday patrolling in the IRV and released he doesn't wear body armour anymore in a area which has a high knife and gun crime, his reason was that if someone wanted to hurt you they'd go for the area which is protected by the vest and therefore doesn't really on it. Anyone else know of simliar people that take big risks? And would you remove your metvest in summer even?

Greetings all, I know a hell of a lot of people here have had their dreams shattered and my heart goes out to you all though I will never understand how you feel. I have however started this topic for anyone who's application, like mine, might still be running and whether we can share information, locations, etc. I wish everyone the best of luck in whatever they pursue, and to all you budding specials; welcome to the family :) Bullseye.

A long shot, I know, but can anyone (old enough to have been around then) recall the area car call-signs in M-District in the late 70s to mid-80s. i.e. Southwark; (not sure if Tower Bridge had one); Rotherhithe; Carter Street; Peckham; East Dulwich??

Hi Forum, I'm not a serving officer but I would like your advice, My sister and her husband have seperated and will be looking for a divorce. He has left her in debt to which she has now issued a CCJ against him for around £20k all of which she has proof of. However, her ex is still a friend of mine and I'm worried he could lose his job over this. Are police officers able to have credit problems and still work or is it frowned upon. Sorry to ask what may be a stupid question but if he is going to end up having his career cut short I would like to try and sort something out with him and my sis. JE

Hi Gang, Just a couple of quick questions. Can someone in the know please confirm/deny whether or not Met specials get free travel identical to regulars on reciept of their warrant card? Also,at what stage of the course is the warrant card/uniform issued? Secondly, can someone also please let me know how much of the course actually takes place at Hendon? The recruitment officer I spoke with today told me that parts of the course are also undertaken at one of the MPS's regional training centers.I'm hoping this is the case as I live very close to the one for the borough I have selected. Any info/help appreciated as always.

Just had a phone call from the MET. Time was 1300 hrs. I was told that due to the current economic climate my application is being dropped. End of. He said that the MET will not be recruiting for at least the next two years.I should be receiving a letter to confirm all this. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news guys but its started. This has been going on for 18 months for me now and the bummer is that I had a start date for September 2009 and had to turn it down as I had to have a small operation on my shoulder. Does anyone out there who was around in the Met in the '80s remember roughly when they brougt in the 'Inter-District Transfer' system - whereby they posted people from Inner to Outer Districts etc (every 5 years I think). Am I right in thinking it was about '83-ish??? I think they ultimately scrapped it, but don't know when.

I'm also trying to recall as many of the old area car call signs from the 1970's and 1980's when there were lots of area cars around - at least one or 2 per Division. The good old days of the Rover P6 and then the SD1! As a start I recall L-District's as Lima 1 Kennington; 2 Clapham; 3 and 4 Brixton and 5 Streatham. Can anyone add?

I currently work for a county force on the ARV. I have been in the police for six years and i have loved it. I have been on the ARV for a year and feel it may be time for a change of scenery due to lack of jobs. Our ARVs are on patrol 24/7 and are used for any firearms incident. We are trained in all ARV tactics: Slow methodical search, Emergency entry, Use of 9 bangs, Vehicle tactics etc. We are also on call for survalliance jobs which require MAST. The county I work for have varied crime problems however firearms incidents occurr once every other day. Due to this I wish to move to an area which is busier to test my abilty as an officer. I am asking does anyone have …

Hi, I want to get together some folk interested in a house share,in Herts, Beds and beyond if needs be. I'm looking at 3 - 4. I work in Camden and would like to stick to the NW rail routes and M1. I'm on a budget as my family home is in Derbyshire and I'm in Section Housing when I'm in London. Hence the need for 3 - 4 house mates, basing myself further out of London and bringing the costs down. All my restdays are spent in Derbyshire, so I would only be around when at work. I have shared with house mates before and know what to expect and how to deal with issues. This request is open to Officers and Support staff. If you are interested either come back on here or PM me…
