hi all am glad i found this site-- i just wanted some help to make a decision. i was a special in the Met for about 8 years and based at the rough part of North London--i left in 2001 due to the fact i never got in the regulars even though i applied 3 times and 2 times on the APS [accelerated promotion scheme] which now is called the hdp [higher development scheme]. Anyway having gained some insight into policing i also enjoying my time in the Met i felt that the specials at the time were not really part of the force, however i believe things have changed now from what i here. Morning All... I'm hoping someone can clear something up for me. This morning I was delighted to receive my MSC Training Course start date - I selected the option of 23 Sundays starting on Nov 7th. My preferred borough is Westminster and MSC Recruitment confirmed, over the phone, that I would be stationed there. But, my letter states that I will complete my training at Bethnal Green Station which is in Tower Hamlets. I was under the impression that I would complete my training at a Westminster station. Does anyone know if this means I will be stationed in Tower Hamlets instead? I'm aware that I will be stationed where the Met needs me but they had already confirmed…

Hi, I work in enforcement for UKBA. I recently came across a non UK national who had been arrested by the MET several times for minor offences. This particular gent had no legal basis in the UK. Now despite him being nicked several times by the MET immigration had never been called out to deal with him. Is it not policy to inform UKBA when a DP is found to be in the UK without leave? cheers

Hello All! I have been told recently that the MET DPG are recruiting for SC's and also the CO19 Unit has SC's patrolling with them. Obviously they woudln't be armed, but what operational role would they take patrolling with these highly specialised Units? LM

Hi all, Been reconsidering my borough choice due to travelling distance and quite fancy Richmond - closer to the M3/A3 allowing me to do more hours. Any thoughts on what policing in general is like there? What are the key issues etc? Also if anybody has any Specials specific info that would be great. Alfie

Hi All, I just need some advice on torches (as interesting as they are!!) I have just finished my Street Duties part of training and as I didn't have a torch I made do with the useless Met Issue Energiser torch!! There are some people who go all out with torches spending rubbish loads on them!! I just wanna know what is a reasonable amount to spend, I know it obviously depends on what I need it for but say just for walking the street looking for the homeless in dark carparks or turfing the youths outa dark park! There are a few brands that keeps popping up, LED Senser, Maglite, Surefire etc. I have seen one that seems to be quite good, the LED Senser P7 which ranges …

Hello, I have had a look around the site to see if there is any info on this and i cant find any. With the announcement of the cutbacks to the funding of the Police as a whole, what ideas or changes would you impliment to reduce costs and wastage within the Met?

Hello everyone. Im just comming to the end of my IPS checklist(1 thing left to tick off) and then ive been told i can apply for my level 4 driving course. Is there anything that can hold me back on that as i dont know the criteria to say who is ellegable for it and who isnt. Ive held a drivers liscence for over 3 years and by next week i should be IPS.Hows things looking for my driving course?
