Does anyone know if plans are in place for specials to cover this event this year? I missed out last year due to being in the Northern area but would like the chance to cover this years event.

Some of you may have read/ seen the pursuit of a vehicle in Hampshire that lead to the prosecution of the two RPU officers in the lead police vehicle that pursued the subject vehicle. The article (see link) is written by the defence barrister for the two officers and makes some very good points. It has certainly made me think twice about a lot of things... http://www.hampshirepolfed.org.uk/pubs/120410b.pdf

I am currently going through training at Netley with the new Gateway programme and last sunday one of trainers said something about driver training in one of my next weekends. Now I have been lead to believe that you are only given this basic training after you become independent but this might be wrong. Does anyone know any thing about this or is this just a fallacy? (P.s sorry if this is in the wrong bit, this is my first post and I don't really know what i'm doing!!)

Hey all, I was discussing with a colleague at work today (also a fellow special) about the CC's aim to make more specials feel 'valued' and getting 65% of Hantspol specials completing minimum duty hours. We both agreed on the idea that once you have gained your independance, other than vehicles and bicycle training...there isnt anything really for specials to sink their teeth into. We both felt that once you had your IPS you were ushered out the door to go patrol and then they left you to your own devices. It was quite obvious that specials dont really get many development oppertunities and we were 'spit balling' ideas on what would make specials complete the hours, fee…

Hi, I have just found out I will be based on SNT rather than TPT when I have been attested. Is SNT rather like walking the beat and dealing with issues as and when the arise or is any of it patrolled in a vehicle? I get the feeling TPT is a bit more exciting. Any advice is much appreciated.

Very much in the similar style to the current Southampton Harbour Master vessels. Certainly looks more robust looking than the current Marine Unit launch's. No too sure about that light bar though, looks like it's been borrowed of an old area car!. LED's would look far better. Hampshire Constabulary has invested £1.2m in four new boats to replace ageing vessels in its Marine Unit. The force's current launches are being gradually decommissioned and sold off to help pay for the new boats. A Lochin 366 launch, a catamaran and two 7.5m (24ft) rigid inflatables will go into service in the summer around the Solent area. The present three launches were commissioned in 2001 an…

Hi, I am a serving special from over the fence in Dorset and have on a number of incidents worked alongside Hampshire officers. This has got me thinking . . . . would anyone be interested in working on a scheme of exchange shifts? I do have the provisional approval of line management from my side but of course formal agreements would have to be put into place, as such this idea is in its very early stages. Benefits I could be see would include looking at how each force uses its specials, conducting cross border patrols, sharing of knowledge regarding current crime trends and hot spots etc, etc. If anyone is interested or could point me in the direction of person(s) wh…

I have got my first load of work through. The disc and first set of workbooks all seem manageable. But how long should the disc take? I am on track to do it in just over a week, that includes actually remembering it all from a couple of hours studying a day. I am just interested to find out how quickly it can be done, as I'm under the impression that once I send all the knowledge checks off I will be sent an induction date that I must subsequently complete the first set of workbooks by. dd10

Hi Hampshire Folk! A question for you. So we have to complete the SCEPAC to become independent and I assume CWUN can see that we are independent. But we have the option of completing the SCEPAC PLUS (I.E The full PAC that PC's complete). But my question! Can CWUN see that we have completed our SCEPAC PLUS? I.E We are able to complete custody interviews, deal with domestics and MISPERS? Just wondering if they are aware so are able to make us more deployable/more usefull!

RPU specials are being recruited it would seem. 15 needed to cover 3 locations, also some SO's and DO's needed as well. Good to see, wish I could meet the criteria!

Hi guys, As the topic says, I've got my assessment next week down at Support HQ, and I would really appreciate any advice or tips to suceed at this first stage! I've been reading and matching the core competences to relevant past events in my life, but do you guys think I should have 2 for each, just in case? Also, this may sound a bit silly, on my invite letter, it says the assessment will be held in the Osborne Quarters/Blocks, however, looking from Google maps, the directions supplied seem to be a bit confusing. Am I right in thinking that once you've parked up in the student car park, you turn left, up the road towards Osborne Close by a mini roundabout? Thanks! :…
