On the local news tonight was 8 new PCSO jobs available in devon and cornwall causing arguments among the public because they would rather have regular officers. Yes PCSO's are useful for certain things but they will never replace the need for Police officers. Deputy chief constable of D +C tried to explain why the money couldnt be used for regular officers and the answer was the money was only allocated by central government to be used for PCSO's and it couldnt be used for anything else. But the real joke is the positions are only being offered to existing police support staff.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-12237588 Crime figures released by the Home Office for Devon and Cornwall show an 11% reduction in recorded crime. Violence against the person, robbery and burglary have fallen, as have theft, criminal damage and vehicle crime. But sexual offences have shown a rise of 15%, according to the Home Office. Police said this was linked to the influence of drink-related sex offences and domestic and child abuse cases. Recorded drugs offences rose by 5%. Deputy Chief Constable Shaun Taylor, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said they were aware that all crime had a "profound impact on people's lives, particularly those involving violenc…

D+C have opened recruitment for specials throughout Jan. Typical - They can afford to recruit and train new police as long as they will work for free!!!!!!!!! I cant apply for specials as i hold a personal licence and SIA badge for my current job. Lets just hope they wont only recruit regular officers in the future from specials. The way its all going It wouldnt suprise me. If antone gets any good news on the recruitment freeze, post asap as any news would be good at the moment. Good luck to you all waiting.

HI, I am a Special Sergeant within Greater Manchester Police (GMP) attached to the Road Policing Unit (RPU), and I am trying to find out more about how other forces utilise their Specials within the RPU's and I understand that Devon & Cornwall currently do this quite well. I would be grateful for any information on this subject or even a contact name/details of one of the Specials Inspectoers/Sergeant in the interests of pooling ideas and best practice to benefit all. Please feel free to PM me on this subject. Regards 24880208

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-11938711 A driving instructor who falsified sat-nav data to evade a speeding charge was caught out by the clocks going back. Shaun Richards, 49, of Exeter, Devon, was caught speeding on the A386 on 1 June 2009, Plymouth Crown Court heard. He drove the same route in January 2010 at the correct speed and changed the date on the sat-nav data to 1 June but forgot to change the time back to BST. He was warned he faced a possible jail sentence after admitting perverting the course of justice. The court heard he had used software on his computer to doctor the data on his sat-nav. He had been accused of speeding at 54mph in a 40mph…

Right I'm applying for D&C and after researching all the various stages involved, vetting worried me a little as it says they look at your finance? As a student as Exeter uni, I naturally have a student loan, does this count as "debt" and will it effect my chances? Cheers in anticipation

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-11982954 The majority of front desks at police stations across Devon and Cornwall are to be closed to save money. Thirty four police stations will be affected, including Brixham, Ilfracombe, St Ives and Looe, and there will be 60 civilian jobs lost. The force said most members of the public now contact the police via phone or internet. It said front desks would be replaced with "effective" wall phones and an appointment system. The desks at 23 police stations in Devon and Cornwall will remain in operation, with extended opening hours at evenings and weekends. It means there should still be a station with a functioning front…
