Hey guys, I recently had an interview with Devon and Cornwall police (which I failed, unfortunately). And I was just wondering what paths I can take to increase my chances of succeeding next time. I've done research online and nothing has really popped out at me. I was just wondering if devon and Cornwall police has a programme on which you can tag along with officers? Or any voluntary programme in which you can gain experience? (Obviously not specials). Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I'm keen to know of anything that other people have done to gain experience.

Hi all. This week I got through my dates for training to be a special in Devon and Cornwall. I work in a food retail store as part of the management team. However my store manager seems very reluctant to allow me the dates I need off to attend all of the compulsory weekends. Does my company have to allow me the time of similar to dury service or can they just flat out refuse? This is something I've wanted to do for a long time and to get this far and my work stop me would be absolutely devastating. I look forward to hearing your advice Thanks Rikki

I have my fitness test this weekend and after only just recovering from an operation I have no problems with the beep test or the swimming. I have been training hard for the push and pull test as that's what I am worrying about. I managed to try out a dyno machine today and averaged 42 on the pull but only got an average of 31 on the push. Now I am even more worried but I think/ hope it is my technique that is letting me down. Has anyone got any advice on the technique, also, are vents 1 to 4 open (Facing up) and the rest closed (downwards). If I do end up failing only the push test, will I instantly fail the whole thing or while they say to work on it and come back a…

As I am not the most confident swimmer and to be honest this is the part I am most worried about I have a few questions. 1)Is the swim test a standing start by the pool, where you dive in or in the pool holding onto the edge? 2)Is the pool a 50m pool or do you need to do 2 x 25m lengths?

Can anyone help especially Officers currently serving or have recently transferred to D@C from another force. Ive been a Special now for nearly 20 years. Currently serving as a Special Sergeant for Kent Police after transferring from Cambridgeshire Police in 2002. I had been a Special in Cambridgeshire Constabulary since 1994. I am moving down to Exeter in the very near future. Contacting D&C HR last week I was told I have to apply not as a transferee but as a new officer. Also I cannot apply until D&C start recruiting again whenever that will be. I then asked the question why I couldn't apply as a transferring PC from another force but this channel was onl…

So I've (finally!) got my invitation to start training in November, after applying all the way back in January 2012. Anybody else on here going to be making an appearance on this course?

Hi All I am hoping someone can help me. I am doing a charity run in April 2014 and am part of Team SulphurCarbon (Team SC). We are driving from London to Lands End to John O'Groats to London via every Police Service in England, Wales & Scotland. We are raising money for two charities, one of which is the Police Dependants Trust. We are trying to make contact with every Special Constabulary along the route in the hope that we can meet some fellow specials at our planned stops as well as regular officers... Can anyone help me?! Thanks in advance Nikki

Hello Guys and Girls, Having finished my probation, the next step in life is for me to get down to D&C asap. I know it says that tranferees wont be considered until at least April, but I'd like to know: Does anyone know if there is a lot of people on the list? Is there a likelyhood for D&C to even open up for tranfers? I know a lot of people think moving out to the sticks is a bad idea but frankly I'm more concerned about homelife than worklife. Any advice would be helpful! Bullseye.

Hi everyone, apologies if this is the incorrect location for this post. I am currently in the Met and looking to transfer out to a county force predominantly D&C in the near future. I see that the pay scale is the same at around £30,366 a year. Can someone please tell me what there basic take home pay is for their force with five years service. I need it to try and work out if i can afford to move out of London. The answer can obviously be after all deductions if possible and include the unsocial hours too. Hope someone can help Thanks Carl

http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/JoinUs/PoliceOfficer/Pages/default.aspx Police officer Devon and Cornwall will be inviting applications for the role of Police Constable from 10am on Monday 22 July 2013. A huge variety of roles are carried out by Police Constables and it is an incredibly challenging and rewarding job. We are seeking dedicated, positive and empathetic people to fill vacancies throughout Devon and Cornwall over the coming years. As a Police Constable you would work closely with the community and undertake activities to tackle crime and disorder at a local level. This is the first time that Devon and Cornwall Police has opened an external ap…
