Hyphen + posted a topic in UK Policing Newshttp://news.sky.com/story/vehicle-hits-pedestrians-in-newcastle-10926595 Reading this on Sky News, appears a vehicle has struck pedestrians with 6 causalties. It was as worshippers were leaving following Eid prayers. Apparently this is not believed to terror related at this stage but is strikingly similar to Finsbury Park. Scary stuff and thoughts with the poor victims including children.
Newcastle city centre crash involving police car puts two officers in hospital The smash happened on City Road just after 10.25pm on Wednesday night, with both cars involved left with severe front end damage A motorist who drove the wrong way down one of Newcastle’s busiest streets attempted to flee after a head on crash that hospitalised two police officers. The 44-year-old Vauxhall Vectra driver ran from the scene of the carnage on City Road, but was caught nearby and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs. Emergency services raced to the scene of the two vehicle smash, near to the junction with Pandon Bank and the upper entrance to the Quayside Car Park, just after 10.25pm on Wednesday night. “Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene and two officers were taken to hospital to be checked over,” a spokesman for Northumbria Police said. “The 44-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall Vectra ran off from the scene and was detained nearby. He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is also under investigation for driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs. “A section of City road was closed to allow for emergency services to respond. “Anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the collision should contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting ref number sn 1180 01/04/15.” A spokesman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue said crews from Elswick and Byker fire stations were called just after 10.40pm. Almost an hour after the crash the area surrounding the police Vauxhall Astra and the dark blue Vauxhall Vectra was still swarming with emergency services. Police set a perimeter around the crash of 50 yards, with officers on the scene blocking pedestrians from entering the Quayside car park via it’s City Road entrance and directing them to steps down to the Manor Chare. --- This happened right underneath our bedroom window, the response from local residents to assist the trapped officers and apprehending the offender was excellent, wishing the officers a speedy recovery, quite nasty circumstances.
Okay - What is the offence probed? (if it is still railway which I doubt or if it was current railway, trespass is the bylaw offence).... Slightly lost as to what could be done about it? (BoP maybe?) if it is over a road, again, yes you could be endangering traffic so that could be it, but what if it is on a cycle path / footpath like this? I'm interested as there has been a few 'person climbs something - police investigate' incidents of late... Edit: just to add this is not an current live 'railway' bridge anymore. but a part of the 'Keelman Way' shared foot and cycle route. The last train ran across in around 1968 if I recall correctly. Just to clarify disregard the use of the drone and any relevant laws on those, i refer to the climbing of bridges, monuments, large walls, etc etc Story Below: (source)
