BBC News link A woman has died and two others are seriously injured after a helicopter plunged into a river in New York City shortly after take-off, officials say. Witnesses described how the privately owned Bell 206 aircraft span out of control before it fell into East River near 34th Street in midtown Manhattan. Officer Down – PC Diane Patt Tributes have been paid to a police officer who died after giving birth to a baby daughter. PC Diane Patt, based at Colchester police station, died at Colchester General Hospital at 10:50pm on Thursday 22nd Sep. Flags at police stations have been flying at half mast as a mark of respect for the married mother-of-two. Her husband Jason is a Sergeant Major in the 7th Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, based at Colchester Garrison. He said: "Diane died on Sunday evening shortly after giving birth. Toddler Alfie Died After Doctor's Failure A three-year-old boy died as a result of the failure of a doctor to correctly diagnose his illness, a coroner has concluded. Alfie Podmore was found dead in his bed by his mother, Abby, three days after being sent home from Birmingham Children's Hospital. An inquest heard he had been diagnosed with a viral infection, but he actually had a bacterial chest infection and died from septicaemia brought on by pneumonia. But to expect to be waited on hand and foot for decades takes the mick!

Surprised I can't find a topic on this. Very sad news. I was watching it until quite late last night, and it seemed, due to their (the miner's) knowledge and experience of the mine, they would have quickly found air pockets and relative safety. Not sure how much hope we can hold out for the others, but I sincerely hope some good can come out of this.
